Great golf
Course was in very good condition. Fairways were very good and most of the rough wasn't bad either. The greens were in good shape and the course overall was very well kept. Weather was great and overall a great golf experience. I will definitely be going back.

Greens need attention. Lots of dead areas. Otherwise course in good shape.

Thank you for your feedback - we appreciate it. What you are seeing on our greens is "the price we pay" for overseeding the greens with poa trivialis for the winter season. The transition periods, both in the spring and fall are when the different grasses will become dominant on the greens. Needless to say the period in between, result in less than ideal conditions. We hope you will return once they have again filled in.

Thank you for taking the time to play our course and review here on GolfAdvisor. Unfortunately you played during the transition period between winter grasses and the summer grasses leaving you with the impression that you report. I am confident that if you return after the summer grasses have filled back in, you will be pleased with the turf.
What a delight
Played he course a couple of weeks ago and just fell n love with this course. So much so, that I invited a group of friends to come and play it, driving down from Sarasota. And it was a big success. Lived here for 13 - and finally discovered this gem of a course and facility. Despite lack of rain for a long time, (most courses are over cooked by now) the course presented itself beautifully. The greens were very fast and challenging, the fairways in great condition and here is the kicker, the short game allowed for smooth chipping. The staff was very friendly from check-in to pro shop and the bar. If you play this course, make sure to try their monster hot dog with fries and their IPA !!
I have only one thing to say, we wished the course would be closer to where we are, but we will play it as often as we can. THIS COURSE HAS IT ALL.

Nice Course
Speed of play was fantastic - 3-1/2 hrs. Only complaint was the starter/ranger - - he apparently was not having a good day.

Played 18 in one hour, 53 minutes as a single.
Don't expect to play that fast, it was late afternoon and no one was on the course. Great classic layout. Walkable. Not overpowering but challenging. Some greens have blank or brown spots. Overall, an enjoyable track.
Thank you very much for taking the time to rate and recommend our course. This is the time of year where you can move around the course very quickly. It is also the time of year when our cool weather winter grasses burn off to be replaced by the warmer grasses resulting in the unsightly greens as you noted. Please give the transition a couple of three weeks and we will be back in order.

I enjoy playing this course and have played it quite a few times. Only one drawback and that's a staff member named Scott. He is very demeaning to customers. He's rude and extremely curt to golfers. He makes you feel like he's doing you a favor waiting on you. This has happened on more than one visit to the golf course. Maybe management should speak to him but he has been working there for a few years and they must allow his behavior

Greens good, fairways dry
I know its Florida and water is scares but a little on the fairways would help
Thank you for your feedback however, what you are seeing is the burning off of the rye that we overseed our tees and fairways with during the winter months. Now that it is warming up, the ryegrass will burn off and the Bermuda will reemerge for the summer months. As long as we overseed, we will experience this transition twice a year. This year for the first time we also over seeded our greens. Get ready for them to transition as well.
A shot makers track
I've played Boca Royale a few times and it will take a few more to find all the little nuances. It requires accurate shot making. It's not a course for bombers. The challenges are plentiful. It's also a mature course which is really nice!
You are exactly right about learning the course through experience. We often guide first timers to not play the tips the first time out, as between our narrow fairways, small greens and preponderance of water and bunkers, you really want to experience the course a few times before moving back to the tips. NIce to Play
A nice course to play with a good experience. Some of the greens need work but over all not bad. Pace of play was wonderful (8:30 tee time) will play in the future.

Tricky greens.....

Terrible staff, book with a partner or you may never tee off.
This is the second time I have played Boca Royal. The first time was a few years ago. I remember not having someone at the bag drop, the parking lot being a disaster with Lincolns and Caddies parked across the yellow lines and not being able to find a spot. The course was ok in both condition and layout but not great and that the rental set my father used were garbage Callaway with a senior flex shaft in the Diablo driver.
This time again, parking lot was still a mess but way less busy and again no bag drop attendant. The first thing out of the Starters mouth was "You must be Stevens*, I don't know where to put you." A nice way to start the day.
No "Hello, good day sir, I'm glad you can play to keep our semi-private course in business so I can golf for free when not holding this clipboard."
So my start time is delayed, and there is no range. Starter tells me he tried to send me off with two Members, but they didn't want someone to join them. I tell him in disbelief what a terrible membership they must have if that is there attitude towards other golfers.
When I was finally sent off I played with two other nice guys that say they have run into the same treatment from the staff at this place in the past. I thanked the starter to which he replied "what did you say to me?" He must be unaccustomed to politeness. So I repeated, slowly, T-H-A-N-K Y-O-U.
The course is short. Green's were just okay but not consistent hole to hole. Pin placements were on ridges that I'm sure would garner complaints from the top notch membership. The tee decks were shaggy and crowned especially the tips, which I am sure no member ever plays. The back nine feels less like Florida golf than the front. The sand was more like dirt with some pretty shells in it.
I was inconveniencing the lady behind in the lounge when I asked for a couple of drinks at the turn. She was too busy berating the new new staff member for no knowing how to clock himself in.
The course was dead. We were done in 4 hours flat, so really 4 hours, 22mins for me. So apparently they need us to pay the staff who would otherwise be bored.
There are better deals to be found. That being said I will probably play again next year with a thicker skin and turn my nose up to all the members in return. (Only SEMI-private, pffft!) Most I'm sure won't be back over the next few years judging from the coffee drinkers in the lounge at the turn.
I will be back but only for a Hot Deal rate!

You can't please everybody...honestly I book HOTDEALS based on how much I want to play the course. I base my choices on other golfers reviews of the course conditions and the level of the challenge, not really if you like the staff or if the parking lot has too many Caddys or Lincolns... I like how despite your scathing review you will return for a third visit! I'm guessing the course itself was worth what you perceived to be a real hassle.
Wow - what can I say? Our team has worked very hard this past year on their interpersonal skills and have been getting very positive feedback, but obviously fell short of your expectations. when you return, if you would be kind enough to identify yourself to me (GM) I would like to discuss your experience and how we can best improve.

the course was excellent with lots of sand traps and water. green were in good shape and fast. very nice course. only complaint would be the starter. he was not friendly and rude to our group.

Tight Boca Royale
Boca Royale is a tight track meaning you have to place your ball properly off the Tee to score well.
Water comes into play on at least 6 holes again forcing you to be cautious either off the Tee or on your approach shots.
All in all a good experience although the greens were rather sparce.

Nice course in good condition
Overall, this is a nice course and seems well managed. Many greens are elevated and somewhat small, but they rolled smooth.
What's not to like?. Maybe all the sand and water. Bunkers around green have some deep lips, so you need to know how to get some height on that ball coming out of those. Plan on losing some balls unless you are really good; water comes into play on many holes.
Would definitely play it again.
