Patriot Hills Golf Club
About
Tucked away in the Ramapo Mountains on a perch overlooking the Hudson, Patriot Hills Golf Club in Stony Point feels far but it’s conveniently only an hour’s drive from the city. The golf course tumbles across dramatically rolling hills, providing views that span the Hudson Valley. Don’t let the 6,485 yards on the scorecard fool you, the daunting elevation changes make the course feel much longer. Walkers should be forewarned that this mountainous golf course is nearly impossible on foot. You can expect a few approaches to uphill greens but more often you’ll be faced with intimidating shots from elevated tees, which loom more than 200 feet above the severely contoured fairways below. The Patriot Hills layout is a formidable test but players of any skill level can appreciate the meticulous care that went into crafting each hole.

Great Course for the Money
You cannot ride this course. Very Hilly but very picturesque. Sept 2014 the greens were very fast. Did not break as much as we thought they would. First time here but I will be back.
Nice Facility and Staff, Players need to leave the course better than they found it
Overall experience very good. It was my first time playing here and offered a nice challenge for my skill level from the blues... if i would have played the whites like i normally do i would have shot significantly lower.
Staff was extremely friendly both at the Starter, on the course and in the club house (grill).
Round played in just about 4 hours, even with a slow group head of us.
Course is very up and down, Most of the tee boxes are elevated into fairways that are forgiving to some extent. A few of the holes are very long par 4's at least from the blue (for me).
My only knock on the course was it was very very dry...The fairways had recently been air-rated and had some dried dirt clumps throughout. I wish golf now would have posted the airation note before booking.
I got a great rate through Golfnow including cart. I will definitely be back to give this track another go.
Amazing Course/View
I had a lot of fun playing here. The views are amazing. On many of the holes you drive out to 100+ foot drops down into exceptional fairways. Quite a lot of wildlife keeps you company. We saw about 20-30 deer which made it an even nicer experience.
I would like to go back now that I know the layout. Quite challenging holes. The greens role nicely.
Public Course that feels like a Private Course
Without question, Patriot Hills is my favorite public course in the NJ/NY area. With the fall specials offered by the Golf Course or the rates you can get on Golfnow, it is a no-brainer. Great value and an absolutely beautiful course with many elevated tee boxes. Staff are super friendly.
Challenging Beauty
Even though I have played here a few times before, I am still awed by the dramatic layout of the course. It has many steep hills, well-placed sand traps that require the golfer to think and plan his shots before hitting. The greens, fairways and traps are in excellent condition. Though in the past, the pace has been very good, on this day it was slow. All my friends who have ever played it still talk about it.
Elevated Greens!!!
If you are a fan of elevated greens then you will love this course. I feel like 80% of the holes I played had elevated greens.
Great wildlife. Lots of deer on the course. Some great vistas.
But, the courses is very narrow, and easy to lose balls in long grass and dense rough which borders the fairway. I went through a lot of balls on this day. I also didnt like how many times I hit the ball from a slop or some weird angle.
I wouldnt rush back to this course. Im glad I played it once though. I did like their bar and food after.
Should have posted an aeration alert
Course was great except for the fact the greens had all just been aerated.
Pleasant!
Play Patriot Hills on nice clear day so that you can enjoy the magnificent scenery and the dramatic landscaping of the course. I usually play from the blue tees which is challenging without being overly difficult. The greens were recently aerated but still was not an issue. Very difficult course to walk, I would advise to ride.
Not a beginners course
I loved playing this course but beware, it is not a beginners course. Difficult greens. One of the most beautiful courses that I've played and thankfully there are no water hazards.
Breathless!! Sceanery!!
It was amazing moment to play at first hole and felt great to shot a ball on the top of mountain. I thought it was only first hole to hit a ball like that. Wow!! It was almost every hole seem to be same shape. Absolutely, I recomand golfers to paly this course. You can heal from the nature while you're playing golf.
Great corse
Beautiful layout with views, hilly, and challenging but reasonable course. Many holes took hard decisions to attack, balls rolled well on the greens. Quite slow due to weekend, but ranger worked hard to keep players in pace.
Great course
My favorite course in the area. Kind of expensive during peak times but definitely a fun course to play. Public Westchester County courses don't even come close.
near death experience
The group after us drove off while we were still at 160 yard out, tee box was elevated high up, the man shot high up and was coming straight down toward my head.. heard loud BANG literally 2 ft on ground from my feet. My friend went so loud the entire course heard "YOOOOU ALMOST KILLED HEERRRRR !!!!"
.........
Other than this scary experience, we all still luv this layout.
Very hilly course, very few flat holes.
This is course is in great shape. It is not certainly for beginners as it requires more accuracy to avoid OBs and red stakes on almost every hole.
Great course with a great deal from golf now.
Course was in great shape with the exception being the bunkers ( and there is a lot of them)!. Most holes are steeply down hill, providing gorgeous views of the Hudson river. Feels and smells like a country club and we were greeting very warmly. Ranger was super friendly and made sure everyone moved along. We were a foursome with a twosome behind us, he made sure we felt like we weren't being rushed (with one of the guys being really new to golf it meant a lot). The views alone are worth the admission especially for the money. So many deer and beavers everywhere that they are used to golfers they just kind of stand there and look at you. Bottom line, if you tend to play NYC courses and you drive a vehicle, its a must play and a welcome refreshment from the madness of the city life.
Beautiful course
Beautiful course, hilly. It had rained so it was cart path only and we still played in under 4 hours. Course is in great condition. Staff was friendly and helpful. No water but lots of sand.
Decent track with a few negatives
Played in the afternoon and paid $70 for 18. Wouldn't recommend paying more than that. Layout of the course is pretty nice being in the hills, which provides some unique challenges and doesn't feel like you're playing the same hole over and over.
The big negative was that we played on a Saturday afternoon, so we were waiting to hit on basically every tee. We expected this, so we weren't too annoyed until the ranger chose the 2 holes where groups get stretched out a bit to yell at us for "being 30 minutes behind", citing the fact that we hadn't waited on THAT tee as to why we were at fault. When we told him we had waited on literally every other tee, he basically tried to say we were lying. Great people skills!
The only negative as far as the course itself goes was the fact that it doesn't seem like people who play there know the etiquette of ball mark repair. Every green was pock marked with ball marks new and old. Not much the grounds crew can do about that, but an observation still.
you need patience
beautiful course, well maintained, but
fairly short, not very challenging, and painfully slow. the rangers were of little help when 2 different foursomes spent more time searching for balls then actually playing.
Magnificent course
Was a fantastic day from the moment we arrived...course itself is gorgeous...traps were in very bad shape...most of them...rest of course just gorgeous. Staff was welcoming, professional and accommodating...couldn't ask for more. Except the traps which is ok for me because I am bad from the sand and I got free lifts:). Thanks Golf NOw.
great day
the course is in great shape. there are a lot of traps- but many holes are very wide. ranger went around often. it was tuesday and still took us over 4 hours.
only one bathroom at the turn around-ladies be aware of this. i played really well so what coudl be better.
