Bella Vista
Drove an hour to get here and was not disappointed. Staff was friendly, the starter gave us some tips for a couple holes which was nice as no one in the group had played the course before. Liked the par 3's, especially the island green. Overall it's well worth the money and I will definitely be returning here.
Outing beforehand
This club certainly is willing to overbook. They had a shotgun outing around 9AM and the number of groups starting around our 1136 on a Monday morning was more than the course could handle. They've done this before.
Other than that its a good course by architect Jim Blaukovitch who typically does courses that are good for both average and better golfers.
Course had a Nice Setting !
The course was set in a nice rural location. Parts were near a house development but very cozy !
Some short holes but overall very challenging especially the island green 14th ! Would definitely play it again ! NICE !
Hot and Humid
I had a hard time dealing with the heat and humidity on the front nine almost to the point of packing it in. I am 64 and handicapped. I was just frustrated and worn out. We decided to grab a bite to eat at the turn and stopping for a little while made a big difference. A breeze came up and the humidity dropped and the rest of the round was quite pleasant. My play picked up and I enjoyed the rest of the day.My partner had been playing really the best round that he had played all year so,that probably didn't help my attitude on the front anyway. We both played well on the back nine and I was able to get even on our side bets. By the way, this course is one of the best conditioned in Eastern Pa. I do wish that people would fix their ball marks though. This course is fun to play for all levels of golfers. It's an easy drive from NJ and the Philly area. Don't miss this gem.
love the island green
I live about an hour and a half away otherwise I would play it more often! The ladies tees were a little to short a lot of holes only being between 250 and 300 yds. The next time I play, I'll play from the golds I only wish some par 4's weren't over 340, I like a course where I can technically get on in regulation. If you like a course where placements key, you'll like this course. I've also have played hundreds of courses and they probably were the nicest staff I ever came across, They have an outdoor patio next to the 18th and on Fridays and Saturday nights they have a singer guitar player, and the food was awesome!
Very enjoyable to play.
I first played this course in late 2014. I played it twice more this year. I really enjoy this course. The holes are a good challenge with a real good mix of layouts and variety. It's very well maintained. I like to visit a variety of courses but this is easily in my top five. I have to resist my urge to play it more often so I can keep finding more gems like this one. Highly recommend it.
LOVE BELLA!
Bell Vista has become one of my favorite courses to play anywhere. It's always in terrific shape, and they do a good job keeping a steady pace off play. The value you get for the greens fees is awesome; I highly recommend this course!
Nice Layout!
Course was very enjoyable. Many of the holes require some careful ball placement from the tee as the fairways are tilted and ball will run off fairway if not placed correctly. Greens were in very good conditiion, but some of the tee boxes were pretty beaten up! Nice challenging par threes, including one moat hole!
Bella vista
Played 36 in 7 hours under perfect conditions. Greens little sandy but rolled nicely
Golf
Great conditions hardly anyone here so zipped around for 36 enjoyable holes. Bad finishing hole
Great Conditions
Aside from the fact that the heat index was 112°, my entire group had a great time on this challenging course.
good course very playable for all
good par threes, never saw the beverage cart. staff was friendly cart guys are a good group of young men. we would come back and play here again
Amazing Conditions
If this is the first time you ever play Bella, don't make it your last. I have fallen in love with this golf course, and the conditions this year are amazing. You couldn't ask for a better round of golf. Great pace of play, excellent playing conditions, and a great layout makes this public golf course a must play in Philadelphia!
Club Rangers were demeaning and unrealistic about pace of play
Our 18 hole outing was the most frustrating and unprofessional treatment by a golf course staff that I have experienced in all my years of golf. I greatly respect and appreciate golf rules and etiquette and understand that pace of play is important, especially on a weekend when tee times are completely booked. However, being hounded 4 times by 3 different Rangers throughout the day was not only unnecessary, but affected our experience and enjoyment. It was clear after the first time a Ranger talked to us about the pace of play (in very disrespectful and belittling tone on hole 6), that a target was on our back and we were in for being constantly watched the rest of the day.
We had 2 beginners with us yesterday who are legitimately trying to get into the game of golf and could not have been more turned off by the treatment of your staff. I’ve played at hundreds of courses and I understand Rangers are needed to keep up the pace of play, but to be constantly watched by a ranger in a cart throughout the entire back 9 when weren’t even holding up the group behind us was just disrespectful. Bella Vista is hopefully aware that golf participation (especially in Males 18-30) around the U.S. has declined greatly over the past decade. Isn't Bella Vista, especially as a public course, supposed to be a steward of the game and help generate interest and participation in the sport?
We all drove from well over an hour away from different states and cities to experience the course and have an enjoyable day golfing, but that was taken away from us by the staff. It should be noted that 1 of the Rangers was very pleasant and respectful and said he was just doing his job(which I completely understand), however the other 2 could not have been more demeaning.
Very Good...but not Exceptional
Seeing this course had an average rating of 4.4 stars, I came in with pretty high expectations. They weren't met. I was pretty irritated to get hounded by the ranger to golf faster after I was waiting behind the group in front all day. Here's what happened. The 11th hole was a more challenging Par 4. While I was playing it, I noticed a basket of used balls. So, I cruised over, spent a few minutes picking out 3 good ones, and I left a buck. We had been waiting for the group in front all day, and the group behind wasn't anywhere near, so I figured no worries, this'll let things open up a bit for us... Well I was wrong. We get off the green, and a very gruff ranger is standing there adamantly telling us we're a hole behind...we got to get moving. I was like you have to be kidding. Well, we did actually fall behind, and it's because there was a foursome of ladies ahead, and the next hole for them was at such a huge advantage it played as about a 90 yd par 3. Come on! That's like a chip and putt hole for anybody. You could tee a putter and get it there. So yeah, of course they're gonna get a hole ahead because it's so darn easy. But, I never once caused a hold up to anybody on the course. Needless to say, we were caught right up and waiting once again after we finished that #12 Par 3, and we didn't even have to increase our pace. But, the ranger continued to hover around us during the round, like Big Brother. That whole situation rubbed me the wrong way.
I also felt the greens were too slow for a course supposedly of this caliper. I wasn't annoyed enough not to return, but I think I'd be a little more inclined to run up the road and golf the Hickory Valley Presidential, which in my opinion offers a slightly better experience all around.
Always a Solid Course Selection
Course is in just great shape right now. Greens are holding and rolling real nice at the moment with very minimal ball marks. Definitely one of my local repeat courses throughout the year. Good value for the money!
If you have never played and thinking about playing Bella Vista, here is the quick and dirty:
The course can play long from the back tees on some holes, especially the front nine, and then short position play (3W or 5W) on other holes. I usually end up playing just about every club in my bag throughout the round which, to me, is a very good thing because you get a lot of different looks with a good amount of situational play. There is a good mix of hills, uneven lies, elevated tee boxes, sand and water. Water especially on the 14th hole island green par 3, which looks so nice and easy, but walking away with par (especially if the wind is blowing even just a little bit) always seems to be a good score due to the green being 2 tiered. I really enjoy the 18th hole as well as a finishing hole which is a very tight elevated par 3. Danger short, danger long, danger left and danger right...LOL. Rounds can be won and lost because of this hole which also includes on the nice warm days, an outside patio off the restaurant where everyone gets to watch it all go down.
Great course. Lot's of fun. They have a beer cart that you see a few times throughout the day. You can't go wrong picking this track.
Excellent
As always, this course is in beautiful condition. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful and they take pace of play seriously. One of the best courses in the area.
I recommend this course
First time I've played this course and I'm not disappointed . From the time I checked in the staff are really friendly . They let me play ahead so I can take my time. But I caught up on the threesome and slowdown the my game a little and end up joining the other threesome behind me which work perfectly because they are very friendly . My overall experirience is great . It's worth driving 1 hr away from home
Great course
Had an issue with the golf now app where it did not show up in the system. Showed them my confirmation on my email and they honored the price and were even able to get us out on time. Really enjoyed playing the course and the staff was informative and friendly. Number 14 was a great hole dispite adding a ball to collection in the pond. Finished the day with some food at the grill which was great. I definitely will be returning to Bella Vista.
