staff was pretty rude and golf shop has very little selection. but great price and decent course conditions. pace of play was wonderful we had nobody behind us and we were in the tail end of a group of 3 as we were a group of 5. overall would recommend for a cheap place to play if on vacation.
At best, this is low level municipal course
My only positive review was steady pace of play, but that was probably due to few playing during the afternoon the day after Memorial Day.
Course was in poor condition. Greens had been aerated in the past few weeks with still a great deal of sand making putting almost impossible. Lots of grounds under repair throughout both 18-hole courses. Most creeks and ponds were muddy with over growth and visually unappealing. Overall upkeep of the course seemed minimal and reminded me more of a low-budget municipal course but at rates double I would have expected for a 3pm midweek summer afternoon tee time. Otherwise, No other real option in Fort Walton to play golf.
great course for biggers
this awesome golf course is full of wide long-drive fairways begners love, the stuff are very nice and friendly, the rate is unbeatable
First off learn to spell! Secondly, beginners is what slows everyone down so stay off the course and play a Par 3 course until you get better.
The Pines needs significant improvement
They recently aerified greens and fairways and that is good. They have made a little effort to fill in wash out areas on 5 and lay some sod but still needs a lot of work. This is especially important as the fairway slopes down and left and the wash out damage is on the left. I would encourage the grounds crew to work on filling in and sodding those wash outs on 5 and also on 16.
Not good
Tee boxes and fairways are in terrible shape. Greens were okay. Pace of play was awful, no ranger or starter controlling anything. Had a foursome in front of us with two walkers and two riders who refused to let our twosome play through even though we were often sitting at the same tee. We couldn’t wait to get out of there and bailed after 9 holes.
The Oaks
The layout of this course is great. Unfortunately, the course is in pitiful condition. Construction for a underground pipe was done yet. No repairs were done to the course. The greens are in even worse shape and completely covered in Poana for most of the greens. Definitely not what this course was rated. They should give a discount for the condition of the course.
Muni Golf at its Best!
Lots of places to play in the panhandle of Florida. I opted to head into Ft. Walton to play the Oaks course (had played the sister course there many years ago). It's everything I love about old courses. The layout is interesting, there is length, shot-making, water, sand, great trees and landscaping. The pride of the people who run the place shows all over (assuming a lot of ex-military which would explain a LOT about how well it seems to run). It was fun and I'll certainly come back.
How well it is run? Yeh, not hardly
It's a golf course, not a golf course and shop. Staff rude? Probably because you were rude I am betting because you didn't make a tee time in advance did you?
