Love it!
Living on the gulf, its hard to find am affordable place to play. Ft Walton Golf course offers the best option. I have gald to see a cart person
Course is in bad shape!
Oaks course needs some tender loving care. I didn’t notice any part of the course that didn’t need improvement.
The workers we interacted with were courteous and knowledgeable.
Course has great layouts to each hole
Really good layout just not great for putting which has crab grass overrun on them
The Pines needs significant improvement
I have played this course many, many times. Generally I like it. But this time the greens were very grainy and there was still much poa annua in the greens. I have reviewed this course several times and always have commented that 1) the fairways and around the greens need much more grass - they need to be seeded - the lies are extremely tight and 2) there are areas where there is just bare soil/sand in the fairways and I have said that those areas need to be filled in, seeded or sodded and staked off until the sod and/or seed has established itself and 3) I have pointed out that there is very significant eroded areas on 5 and 16. They have staked off some of those areas but I see nothing being done to repair those areas. I urge the course management to fix these issues and improve the palying conditions of the course.
Fun Track BUT!!
Ok—I play here every once in a while, and really enjoy the course layout. BUT, for now most of the greens are full of a clumpy grass that makes it difficult to enjoy them. It wasn’t like that last time we played. They’ve got a real problem on their hands as it makes putting like your on a washboard. Too Bad!! It’s got some really fun and challenging holes.
Hopefully next time they’ve remedied the problem. The green fees are really reasonable, especially when you use GolfNow’s Hot Deals!!
Relaxing and Enjoyable
My 13 yo son and I teed off at 7:45 am and finished exactly 4 hours. The round overall was really enjoyable and relaxing. The greens were not in great shape, very inconsistent and bumpy. The layout was interesting and had variety. Overall a nice experience to enjoy with my son on vacation.
Good Course
My wife and I enjoyed the course. I walked a good bit of the course and would have walked all 18 if I was by myself.
The greens do have an invasive grass but it wasn't horrible. Putts were bumpy, but some greens and lines were just fine. Don't let the greens scare you away.
I would definitely come back the next time we visit the panhandle.
Mediocre course, staff, amenities
No pro shop. Staff not friendly. fairways and greens filled with weeds. No grab’n’go food. Restaurant on the same level. Priced a bit high for conditions
First off, this thing will not let me change the number of stars so any actual rating shown here is false. Guess they want to make themselves look good at the course. Need of course marshalls EVERY DAY is obvious. 4 some in front of us started at least 30 minutes before us and we caught up to their sorry selves in 3 holes and were behind them the whole way!! If they moved on the golf course like they beat feet to their cars, that would have been nice and they know who they are. Next time we see them, we're hitting into them.
Greens
Over all course is good. Greens very difficult due to multiple budding grass types. No putt will roll true.
Good warm up round
Nice municipal facility to knock off the winter rust. A couple nice practice areas and a range. Course(s) are both fun and a great value.
Turf Management issues
Turf is a mess with a lot of bare areas and the greens are full of Poe, making it impossible to putt. These were problems that existed in 2019 and nothing seems to have been done about it.
The driving is limited to hitting off mats.
The course is an interesting layout and a value. It is too bad that the turf conditions are abysmal.
Marshals
Or lack of marshals or lack of golf etiquette by the course. The man behind the counter didn’t tell the patron that he couldn’t have a 5 person group and neither did the marshal at the first hole. We got at the first tee at our tee time and the starter said our other 2 some teed off a half early and we were to get in line behind groups that didn’t have tee times. Not a very good way to run a golf course. Even if it is a city course. The course was a little better than in January when we last played but was still under construction and very slow, it took 3 hours to play 9 holes because no body was policing the course. Golf Now should take them off of their list. I don’t mind if people don’t play well but when you don’t tell them that you can’t play as more than 4 and don’t police it then you won’t be getting any more of my money or good reviews. The course is very dry like a lot of other courses are, the layout is good and challenging. The practice areas are very good.
Course needs
Overall pretty nice. There is poa annua grass popping up on several greens. Maintenance needs to apply chemical to prevent the growth of poa annua. Serious wash out areas on holes 5 and 16 because of the serious downhill slopes in the fairways. Those washed out areas need to be fixed. The end of the cart path on hole 15 at the tee needs to be dug up and brought level with the surrounding turf. Throughout the course there are areas I will call "potholes" that need to be filled in and install sod. The fairways need to be seeded as the grass is too thin in the fairways. To the starters please do not send out fivesomes.
If you can afford to live in the Miramir Beach area, you can afford to play golf out there instead of on our course. There are at least 6 other local golf courses that price compares to Fort Walton so you honestly have no clue what you are talking about and if you don't know what courses I am talking about, then DO SOME research!
