Grenelefe Big Dissapointment
Over the years I had heard that this was a very nice resort course , unfortunately they have let the course conditions fall way below par.
The course layout is good it's just that they have let it go to pot in my opinion. I can say I played it once in my life, and it will be the only time I play it.
Average Play ..... on the rough side
Greens very slow. Rough is really rough. Off the beaten path. I think East is better than South.
Compared to others in area ..... average ..... courses should offer more membership options. Would not pay $40 asking ($37.21 + tax) .... usually find better values elsewhere.
They are living in the past. Should realize that offering better prices means more play by more customers.
Course
We had a fantastic day. The course was in nice shape. Will play again when in the area
Great Golf Challenge
Considering all the changes this course has gone through in the past 15 years I am impressed. The greens are in absolutely immaculate condition. I would love to see it restored to what it once was. Best bang for the buck in Polk County for sure.
Great Place to go
Very friendly staff, I played in the afternoon and was finished in just over two hours. The ground was a little rough in spots, but for the money and the timing, it was excellent. Wouldn't hesitate to play there again.
Challenging course, friendly staff
There are 2 courses with similar condition of fairways as only average and greens were very slow. Pace of play was excellent, great value with hot deal price.
getting better
Tee boxes, fairways and greens were in pretty good shape. Rough and sand traps could use some serious attention other that it appears to be getting better than years past.
On Its Way Back!
Years ago this was one of the best resorts in the area. As with many courses it fell on hard times and closed a course and lost the rest.
The good news is that they are making a comeback and there aren't too many people playing it yet.
The fairways were overseeded and pretty lush. The greens were consistent albeit kind of slow, but looked very nice and when cut will roll very well.
It's sad to see all of the empty townhouses and the kind of transient people living in many of the others, but there were quite a few visitors and many more residents than I expected, that were playing the other course. I played the East course and would recommend it to anyone. If you haven't played it in a while, I think you will be pleased.
It's still inexpensive and as each day goes by, I think it will continue to improve.
Good effort so far!
Just my thoughts!
narrow fairways
In may opinion this course was overall a good course
nice layout and mix of different holes. greens are nicely designed
I only played it once. courses below average shape for most golfers, but it could have been the time of year, I suspect it's keep in better shape than when I played it 11/18/2013. I enjoyed it would play it again.
Good layout
Played the South course and enjoyed the layout, well placed bunkers and lakes.
Greens were on the slow side but I had just spent 2 days on very quick greens at Eagle Dunes and Grand Pines so anywhere would have been relatively slow.
Greens had clearly been over-seeded and were in need of a little TLC but I would definitely return to play the course again.
The greens were superbe
We will go again maybe this week. We were impress by the good condition of the fairway and the greens.
Wet
watering greens and couldn't finish 5 holes because of the heavy sprinklers . Tried talking to them about it and they said our 4some should have waited, well there were 2 4somes behind us ! They said "oh well"
Best greens I've played so far this Fall.
Tight course with small greens. I like it because you need to plan your shots not just whale away. A bit of a drive but worth it. I will be back to play the South course next time I'm in the area. Good value.
Greenleaf is great
great course for all playing levels, love playing here!
good old style course
both courses have a good layout , its to bad they spend just the min imum on them . greens need work and they need spend some time killing weeds on fairways , as long as they keep the price down its ok.
The course has improved since last played.
Greens were in good shape as were fairways,
Look forward to playing this course again.
Was enjoyable to play.
We've played this course the last couple of times we visited the Orlando area. You don't feel rushed. The staff are friendly and have allowed us to tee off before our actual tee time. I would certainly play it again.
Fertilization in progress
The course stinks. Really stinks. We’ve driven by the farmer’s field when they were applying fertilizer and you can’t drive fast enough to pass it. Imagine 3 hours in a golf cart driving through that field. The guy I played with got sick and left. I don’t walk off a golf course, but I thought about it. I got home and my wife wouldn’t let me in the house because I still stunk so badly. She thought I got into a skunk at the course.
That being said, I love to see this course doing maintenance to bring it back to the glory days of Grenelefe.
Grenelefe East
This was once a world class golf facility. They hosted Q-school for the PGA, and the resort was first rate. The course layout, routing, and total design are still great. The pro shop folks and the cart people could not have been more friendly and accommodating. I’m not sure if it is a sign of economics of Central Florida, the world economy or the golf industry in general, but the course isn’t what it once was. In fairness, Florida experienced summer rains like the area hasn’t seen before. It has been dry for several days now. The course was wet and tees and greens need attention. The fairways had a lot of weeds, and the weeds extended to the area around the greens. I will go back because it was such a deal, and the people were so nice. You can see they are working on improving the conditions, and I hope this is brought back to what it once was. Of course, it probably won’t have such low green fees, and the course will be packed.
