Tough but worth it
Tough and beautiful shotmaker layout. Challenges everywhere. Good to pay attention to everything if you’ve not played before. We had an experienced partner in our four.
Great food and drinks following
Surprising and Dissapointing
We played on 3-22-22. We had a reservation scheduled for the day before through GolfNow bout cancelled it and scheduled it for the following day due to the forecasted 40 mile per hour winds.
Instead of receiving a refund, GolfNow provided voucher codes to use in the future. What a joke.
Upon arriving at the course, the computer system was down and we could not check in? We were asked to come back to the clubhouse after the round and settle up.
They had one beverage service person to cover the 27 hole layout. And to finish things off, the restaurant was closed, so we went elsewhere to have dinner after our round. Now you may understand why I have this review the subject title.
Great Desert Target Course!
Enjoyed this Mountain Desert Course . Marriott Courses Never Disappoint!
Star Pass Golf Review
Rattlesnake & Roadrunner challenging 18. Best value for your money. Coyote was a fun 9 holes, but they rip you off on the fees by charging $25/person for a cart.
Never again
Had not visited course in over 22 years, wife and I were paired with another twosome who were 15 minutes late for the 9:50 tee time. We were asked to wait for them which we did. Father and son arrived at the first tee with the son's 3 and 4 year old daughters. Nothing against children, have five of my own, along with 5 grandchildren under the age of ten. This was not the venue to bring your children and since it was allowed, we should have been given some options. It was the worst golfing environment I've ever been in, as the kids kept running around, picking up golf balls, crying, etc. It was not the kids fault, this was not the venue to bring them to their father should know that. As most parents know attention spans are short in young children. Mentioned my displeasure to golf staff after the round, they did not care. Contacting GM of club.
Awesome
Beautiful golf course. Far exceeded my expectations. Pictures doesn’t capture how really cool this golf course is. It is not a walking course and the golf cart will not let you get to close to greens it shuts down. Greens are quick and a little hard for my Midwest game but I loved the course
One of the best in the area. Could be even better with a couple of tweaks.
Had a awesome day to play golf.
When we arrived there was an issue with the cash register system and they could not run our credit cards so we ended up paying cash. The guys in the pro shop were fantastic given the minor issue, the cart attendants were also very nice as well as the gals who staffed the beverage cart (they have Starbucks coffee on board which also was a unexpected pleasure).
We had an 8:00 am tee time and the starter (Eddie) did not get us off to a good start. We arrived at starter station after the delay at 7:50 and asked the starter for some general course information (how to navigate cart gps, any hidden tee shot penalty areas ) and he was considerably less than helpful. We asked if we had time to hit a couple of balls or to strike a putt or two and he said tee sheet was full and we needed to tee off right away, when asking general questions he seemed grumpy and put off and lacked answers to our inquiries. He said we are on the tee right away so had to go immediately.
We were paired with one other gentleman who was 7 handicap. The starter informed us what tee we MUST hit from one of the shorter tees 5800 yards being a 12-15 handicap. The ball flys much better in the desert and the tees he suggested we play put us in the junk frequently since this has s truly a target golf course.
Enough about the bad start we got off to…
The course is visually stunning. Every hole could be considered a signature hole. Some of the nicest mansions in the Tucson area border this gem. We were a three some and we finished our round in:3:35 as the group behind us were probably scratch golfers and felt rushed through one of the best tracks in the Tucson area.
The sand traps were a hot mess. Basically hard pan with rocks and no sand. The restroom facilities were non existent with the exception of the porta potties on the 15th green and 16 tee box and a restroom at the turn.
This course and layout is every bit as nice as dove mountain but the starter and lack of sand in traps took away from what could have been a bucket list experience.
We saw several deer, 3 grey wolves, roadrunners, bunnies and tons of chirping birds on a great layout.
Might play again but will arrive a bit sooner and hope Eddie isn’t as grumpy the next time we play, he might be better serving as a ranger since we didn’t see one when we rushed around the course.
Sorry for so much negativity but the course still is nice enough to make up for the other discrepancies.
Walking Coyote
Walked the Coyote 9 yesterday. Found the layout to be long but playable. Painted fairways were surprisingly good. Greens were excellent. Staff were very friendly. Pace of play was great., under 2 hours. I love the area and will definitely do this again.
Good test of accuracy.
I really like this course. It is not incredibly long but it can be brutal if you stray with your shots. The only complaint was the lack of sand in some of their bunkers. The greens were fast but difficult due to their slopes. I will definitely play it again the next time I am in the area.
overpriced
course used to be fairly priced, not so anymore. used to be able to chose your course from the 3 different nines.now just one route if you want to play 18. the sands traps used to some of the best in tucson, now some of the worst around, no sand, full of rocks. Extremely over priced for conditions of sand traps. cart items way way overpriced.
Golfer1
There were Porta potties on the back. Not a good look for a resort.
Course was beautiful with beautiful views.
First time at Starr Pass
I was surprised at the speed of the greens based on their condition. Greens were postmarked with multi grasses. Did roll okay just fast. Need to play this a few times more to get a feel for the course.
