Great Layout, Extremely Slow Greens
I've played here several times and think it's one of the best layouts in Tucson. Challenging and very entertaining. But yesterday I ran into two problems. First, the greens were in very poor condition. Mostly, they were very shaggy and exceptionally slow. Everyone had a hard time getting the ball to the hole. Often, long putts only got half way.
Second, I played at 11:15 - in July, when the course is usually pretty empty so it's not unusual to get around in 3 hours or less. But on this day, there were a couple of men's foursomes that were SO slow, that I was looking at least a 5 hour round, so I had to skip a hole or two to get in front of them. There really isn't an excuse for taking up to 10 minutes for a foursome to putt. And of course, no rangers out in the summer to keep things moving along. I'll have to rethink whether I want to try it again.
Golfing on the course - Terrific but.
Our foursome arrived as prepaid. One employee was behind the counter and three employees were in an room next to the golf shop. It had just finished raining and the weather was clearing. Perfect temperature. The checkin person was abrupt and showed no interest in making us welcome. It was as if he really didn't care if we needed anything or even asked if we had played the course before. Not even a smile of welcome. After signing the cart slip, we were instructed to take our bags to the carts. Unfortunately not having played the course we didn't know the location of the carts. I returned to ask and was told they are down the hill and pointed. Arriving at the carts we found the cart and seats "wet"! Went back up the hill and into the pro-shop to ask if they had towels to dry off the seats. "Nope, don't have a thing, just use your hands" .. By the way, we arrived 30 mins early, no one was waiting and no one on the course. We asked if we could tee off early. The answer, "no your tee time is 10:15, I'll call when it's your tee time". As for the golf course, it's one if not the best courses I've play in Southern Arizona. Magnificent views on every hole and very well manicure. What a nice experience -- except for the welcoming ...
Fun course, spectacular scenery
There are gulches that don't enhance the course, and are not visible from where you play your shot..
Greens are nice and uniform, but rather slow. Just takes some getting used to.
Gas carts are noisy, but likely necessary to make it up and down the hills.
Really liked that there are specific places for carts to enter and exit the fairways.
Overall, a great experience.
need to do better signage and marking for the course
nice course but very poorly marked - had no idea of yardage to bunkers, where to aim, where not to aim, where to lay up, etc. No signs at the tee box or overhead picture of the hole. There are a lot of blind shots and you have no idea of what lies ahead. Talked to the staff afterwards - somewhat unresponsive... didn't really care. play somewhere else instead is my advice.
Father's day
Very nice course. Views - you can't beat them. The greens were recently punched, and are coming back nicely. Fairways were more recently punched, so expect some imperfection until they fill in. Staff could have been a bit more friendly. Your not a private club and this time of year, non-members are spending money at your course when there are so many other choices at summer rates.
A great value through golf now.
Stunning views and great use of the terrain. Greens a bit slow but still, in good shape. My only complaint is that there's no grill or hot dog stand at the turn. Either you wait for something out of the nice restaurant bar or bring your own.
Day in AZ sun
Pro shop was friendly and nice but obviously the person behind the desk had not played the course in a while. He thought the greens were fast, they were fuzzy and slow coming off aerating. The overall course was very good for June. The practice facility was very good. Did see 9 dear next to fairway.
Needs some layout signage
Had a great rate to play this course. Took nearly five hours to play, two groups ahead of us were very slow. The group behind us got upset with our group but we could not do anything. The marshall tried to get the groups ahead of us to move faster but no progress. The sand bunkers were very hard. There are NO signs at the start of each hole indicating what is in front and which direction the hole is after a turn in the fairway.
Almost Exellent
The greens had been aerated 7 days before and if we had know we would have waited another couple of weeks until they were back to their usual great shape.
Great approach shots were not rewarded due to putts being bumped off line.
My suggestion is to call the course direct before booking online.
Great target course
Tremendous mountain views and the course was in great shape!
Play this course
I definitely plan to play this course again. Conditions were excellent, pace of play perfect, views great.
Extremely windy with 35 mph gusts
Got to play with 3 other singles. Very pleasant except for the wind gusts which were impossible to guage how far left or right to aim.The course is in excellent condition and the greens are well tended.
A great course to play when one's lips are not slapping one's gums...
Greatly improved conditions
The course is in a very scenic location. We have played it once or twice a year over the last six years. The condition of the course has improved significantly in that time. I played from the Gold Tees and my wife played from the Platium/copper tees. We found that to be challenging and interesting. The score card has recommendations as to the tees to play which I would recommend to anyone who is not familiar with the course. I will continue to play the course as in the past.
the preserve at saddlebrooke
THE STAFF WAS EXTREMELY FRIENDLY AND
VERY HELPFUL. NOT AN EASY COURSE BUT
VERY CHALLENGING, WOULD LOVE TO PLAY THIS COURSE AGAIN.
True Desert Golf
There are a few required carries that the first timer should have a range finder or equivalent to determine how far to hit it or where they should lay up. Also quite a few bunkers that need to have yardage over or short figures to avoid. Overall a good test and course was in good shape. Greens had some undulations in them so be sure you bring your good putting stroke. Some of the most fantastic desert vista views in the area.
beautiful location with awesome views
Always look forward to playing The Preserve. The elevations keep it challenging and interesting .
Great day and course for Golf
Weather was great! Course was in very good condition.
wonderful
Perfect in most every way. Wish I had joined here
ten years ago.
Beautiful course
This is a beautiful course. Well maintained. In excellent condition. The views of the Catalinas are phenomenal. I found The Preserve to be more of a challenge than most courses I've played in Tucson, which I especially enjoyed. The clubhouse is well maintained & beautiful as well.
The only category I rated below 5 stars was "Staff Friendliness". The reason for this is because of the woman I dealt with in the pro shop when I checked in. Not customer friendly by any stretch (well, perhaps to the members & also the male golfers). Not friendly nor helpful. Also was obviously miffed when I forgot to tell her we didn't need a cart. She definitely could use some customer service training.
