Eagle Eye Golf Club
About
Located near Michigan’s capital city of Lansing and minutes from Michigan State University’s campus, Eagle Eye Golf Club is one of the state’s top-ranked public courses. The 18-hole championship course opened in 2003 and was designed by Chris Lutzke, a protégé of legendary architect Pete Dye. Lutzke’s design features some Dye staples like railroad ties, severe mounding and pot bunkers. But the most recognizable homage to Dye is the TPC Sawgrass-inspired island-green 17th hole. The 9th and 18th holes are both dramatic par 5s that hug each side of a large pond from tee to green. Eagle Eye has a 65,000-square-foot clubhouse that, in addition to a pro shop and grill with outdoor seating overlooking the course, can host a variety of large groups, outings and weddings. Over the years, Eagle Eye has regularly made the Golfers’ Choice Michigan an Top 50 United States lists on GolfPass.

One of the best public courses in Michigan
I was rather pleased with Eagle Eye. I'm a longer hitting (tour length), 3 hdcp, young private instructor who is always looking for a strong, challenging course. Not just length-wise, but strategically layout-wise as well. This course absolutely delivered. At 7,300 yds, it's not the longest course I've ever played, but definitely in my top 5. More than any other course I've ever played, accuracy off the tee on every hole, not just the 4's and 5's, is imperative to scoring well. I can only think of 2 holes here where there's no water in play. With that being said, I hit more long irons and 3-woods off the tee than drivers for accuracy reasons, but also knowing that the course conditions would allow the ball the roll out a little more than normal. Albeit I'm a longer hitter and might have that luxury, but either way no matter what teebox your're playing, we're all generally hitting to the same spots off the tee. It's a true first-shot course in that regard, as opposed to a second-shot course which is more straightforward and wide-open where more distance off the tee can mean multiple club's difference into the green. Anyway, it's a truly Pete Dye influenced track, especially with holes like 1, 7, 8, & 16 where it requires one shot shape off the tee and the opposite into the green. Fortunately I had my "A game" that day and shot a 76 from the tips, which matched the high course rating of 75.9, but I can absolutely see hitting some loose shots here and there and running up a huge number before you know what hit you. Luckily I haven't yet experienced the teeth of this course, but I have a feeling that I inevitably will next time :-/ lol. I have to mention the 17th hole at TPC Sawgrass replica; it's an absolute gem and pleasure to play. It is an exact replica of the most famous par 3 hole in golf, and the only other place to experience it outside of Ponte Vedre Beach, FL. It was so surreal standing on that teebox after watching it on TV hundreds of times. It actually looks shorter in person. The nerves definitely started just before I hit, but I found the green and made par. By far the most gratifying par of my life. If you have time and you won't slow down any groups behind you, I'd highly recommend taking your time and soaking that hole in. My only negative about that hole is it's not quite as firm/fast as the original, so the Tiger "better than most" putt (yes, I attempted to recreate it a few times lol) wasn't quite possible but again, was surreal to try. To rap this up, I was very impressed with the condition of this course for being so new (<15 years old), and it could definitely use another decade or 2 to mature into an absolute masterpiece. I'd compare it to, or even slightly ahead of other higher-end new courses like Boulder Pointe, The Orchards, Coyote Preserve, and Shepherd's Hollow. This course is absolutely worth the drive and price, even just for the TPC Sawgrass 17th replica hole alone. You won't be disappointed!
Awesome links like course
Love this course, challenging but fun, some great features.
great golf course
great layout, beautiful Greens
Excellent condition.
Tough course but was fun to play.
Interesting and well maintained.
We enjoyed the course and the staff was extremely nice.
Impressive track
My wife and I recently had a round here and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. I enjoyed the layout more than my wife since she found several of the holes too difficult. Greens, tees and fairways were all in great condition and the staff were very welcoming. Highly recommend a round here.
Be ready to play…
The first cut is THICK and the rest is unbelievable! If you hit there, its gone! Bring an extra box unless you can hit the fairways every time.
Great fun course…we are still talking about it.
loved this course!
It's a bit more expensive than some others but we'll worth it!
Very nice track.
This one doesn't disappoint. One of the best in Michigan. Wish we hadn't gotten caught up with a huge outing and made to play the back 9 first, but still well worth the trip from GR and the cost. We'll be back.
Eagle eye is always great
I have played here for full price before so when I saw a cheap round on golfnow I was all over it. Eagle eye is THE premier course in central michigan.
Great value for a great course
This course is everything that is written about it. The fairways and greens were in great shape. The greens were extremely fast and in great shape considering a rough winter. The roughs were a little to long in my opinion but the grass is really starting to grow now. A great test of golf, will definitely try the course again.
Excellent Course
Eagle Eye is an extremely well manicured course. They offer many tees for every level of golfer. It is an excellent course!
Test your mind and ability
Excellent challenge, especially from back tees. Added wind forces smart decision making. Each hole has it's uniqueness, but they all fit together. Loved how hard it is, but fair if you hit a quality shot. Thought about island 17 the whole round, just like TPC. Parred it and birdied 18 for a 79, so I had a great experience. Visually rewarding as well. Early round presents a problem w fertilizer guy who leaves little white bubble clumps in fairway and really tough to spot your ball in morning sun. A little expensive to play every week, but worth the price when making a trip to MSU to visit the Rose Bowl champs. Go Green!!!!!!
Great course!
Course was in wonderful condition for the time of year....kind, courteous staff all around. I will definitely be back!
The best course I've ever played
Wow, what a course to play!!!!
The staff was so kind and friendly made it feel like home. The fairways were so good felt like u were walking on clouds. Every hole has a distinct and beautiful layout with awesome greens.
Can not wait to play this course again in the summer. Just a fun and awesome course to play!
Great Golf Course
Great golf course. Greens were pristine especially considering the harsh winter.
I would highly suggest playing this course. Great layout.
Excellent Course
Still trying to green up, but course in good condition. Just wish it was less windy - made the challenge a bit tougher. Great place to play - will definitely return again.
Great for this time of year.
We played Eagle Eye on 11/20/2013 and it was in great shape for being this time of year. The greens were slower but not real slow. We got a good deal the day we played also which we never get there so we went. It it worth playing here, especially if you get a better deal. Hawk Hollow across the road has more trees & Eagle Eye is more of a links course. It is worth playing both of them along with Woodside, a nine hole course nearby.
Sand and Water
The course is in great shape, and lots of interesting holes for a links style course.
