Nice hidden course
My wife and I enjoyed a beautiful spring day at Cedar Trace. It was our first outing of the year and we played like it, but we both enjoyed the day and the course.
The staff was very helpful and friendly on our arrival. The crowd was light and we easily played 18 in under 4 hours despite hitting an occasional second ball and practicing putts.
The course was in good shape and offered a wide variety of holes. You definitely need to leave the driver in the bag on a few holes. A few of the holes are a bit quirky but still fun. Greens were in good shape and the ball rolled true.
A couple of the holes could use better signage as we were confused on where the next tee was located. I look forward to playing there again now that I have seen the couse.
The bunkers could use some work and make sure you have tops on your drinks as the cart paths are rough.
It was a bit of a drive, but was a great value for the money we paid.
Fun trip to middle of nowhere
Pros:
Not busy at all. Pace of play was good. Friendly staff. Greens were in excellent condition and rolled well. Fairways in good shape.
Cons:
Condition of tee boxes are poor. Cart paths are almost dangerous to ride on with the steep hills and potholes galore. The rough hasn't been mowed in a while. Bunker condition is terrible.
I'm not a golf course elitist by any standards, but the overall condition of cedar trace makes me think they need a new superintendent. With a little work (repaving cart paths, mowing, maybe some flare to the elevated tee boxes, doing anything with the bunkers, mowing again), it would be a really nice course. As it stands, still ok.
The design of the course also is frustrating. Cedar trace is like playing 3 different designs at once. There are wide open holes, short little weird par 3s, elevated tree-lined doglegs, etc. doesn't seem like it has an identity.
Overall, I'd play there again, but I'm not paying over 25-30 to do so.
Nice Layout
This course has a good layout for all players. We played the white tees and had a fun round. We had to race the weather but had a good time.. First out and played as a twosome in under 4 hours. The layout is challenging with a few blind shots and multiple tees to choose from.
They are working on fixing the cart paths, but you play the course and (hopefully) not the cart paths. Not a walkable course.
I will play the course again.
Friendly staff, great coarse
Played 18 as a single. Fairways were in great shape. They always make it interesting with the change in pin placements. Some very challenging placements. I love the diversity and scenery of this coarse. Management has done a great job with the exception of the sand traps. They still need work. I play in a foursome most every week at Cedar Trace. Convenient, great value, friendly.
Not Good For An Outing
We had an outing scheduled at Cedar Trace. The day before the outing at 6PM, we found out that they were not going to be able to do it. No phone call alerting us. If we hadn't called them, we would have had 40 golfers show up ready to play. This was extremely unprofessional, their stance was that they could do nothing at that point although they were sorry. We were able to move the outing to another course - thank God for that!
Lots of Bang for the Buck
I used to play this course when it was Lords Valley but this is the first time I have played it in about 8 years. The course is a real mix of conditions with the greens being in excellent condition, the fairways are good, the tee boxes are fair and the bunkers are terrible. Calling them sand traps would be a serious stretch. If you like a course that plays through the woods you will like this track. Even when holes run parallel there is enough distance between them that you do not feel like there are other golfers right next to you. Several holes have water in play and you will be hitting both up and down hill especially on the Par 3's but there are only a couple of holes where you are hitting blind shots to a fairway that disappears behind the vegetation. The greens are large and very well maintained and they make the course very enjoyable. The course needs better distance markers as you will be hunting for the markers on the sides of the fairway if you do not use a measurement laser. If you have not played this course before, it is worth a trip to the east side of the city to check it out especially since it was a great value and the pace of play was great.
Quality country course
Played Cedar Trace on 9/12/14, played it once before 5 years ago so sort of new to the course. Fairways and greens were in good shape with a lot of weeds in fairways. Tees were average condition. Bunkers were totally unplayable and didn't look they had been touched all year. If you read the review before mine that says it rivaled the course down the street for $79, they were smoking those weeds from the fairway. It is NO WHERE NEAR the condition and quality of Stonelick. For those who live close, I would recommend this course for the money. Not a long track, some what tight and a fair amount of uphill or downhill shots.
Out of the way gem
Extremely fair and playable for all skill levels. Beautiful course with good length, terrain changes, and occasional water. Well maintained with reasonable rough and excellent greens. Course can be walked but riding is recommended. Club house and amenities are limited but clean and friendly. Good deals for good tee times are usually available even on weekends. Lack of a driving range is only real drawback. Course is hidden away but is worth the drive to play. I really like this course in all respects and regularly drive the 45 minutes it takes me to play it.
Not a 4 star golf course
Played this course about 8 years ago and the fairways were completely burned out. Bad experience. Gave it another chance yesterday. Not impressed. First problem - something must be wrong with address as my GPS could not find it with the Batavia address.
Fairways and greens were in decent shape, but roughs were long and basically crab grass. The sand traps had no sand in them and were mudholes. They did have a huge load of sand in the parking lot, but a little late for this year. Our biggest problem was that hole 4 and 7 share the same green, but there is no explanation as to where the tees are. A group who got on the wrong tee hit into us and barely missed our cart. The course is not marked well at all as we also got lost on a back 9 hole. Also the scorecard does not identify a number of the hazards. Lost some balls that we thought were good shots.
The staff was friendly and club house is ok, but we would not recommend this course,
Interesting round
The green were very good - large, lots of slope, quick but not too fast. The fairways are decent. None of the bunkers had sand - all dirt and mud. Only a few holes allow driver off the tee... Mostly target golf hitting about 200-225 off the tee. There was no way to tell pin location on the green- all flags were the same color.
one of the best courses
Excellent. One of the best in Ohio for money and staff/conditions
Great course, could be amazing
Cedar Trace is a special place. Many of the holes are very memorable. Tight fairways, huge elevation changes, blind tee shots, tough dog legs. As this was my first time at this course scoring was very difficult. If they had more money to elevate the quality of the grounds then this would be an absolute must play. Last couple of points, there is no driving range, some of the greens have a ton of slope and if you play from the back tees, it is going to be a long day.
Great Value
$22 for 18, a cart, and hotdog and drink on Tuesdays and Thursdays! ...a couple quirky holes, greens and yardages had me fooled at times, but it was this first time around track. Some good par 4s and good length from the tips. I agree with a previous review each hole is isolated from others, makes you feel like you own the course. Would definitely play again!
Great time.
I received a great rate but do not use the direction link on golf now ! It takes you to a corn field . Take us 50 to hutchensonville at the corner of the high school. Up on your right. Course is tight but had a great time.
Cedar Trace
Course was a good mixture of challenge, strategy and ease. Both par 5's are basically unreachable in 2 shots unless you are a +300 yd hitter. No reachable par 4's, but you can have some really short iron/wedge shots in if you drive the ball straight. Course and greens were in overall good shape. If you have a slice/hook, or hit a few errand shots a round, be prepared to lose balls. Hazards are nearly on every hole...woods mainly, but water does come into play on the back 9. This is a local course for me and always presents a new challenge each time I play it. I would recommend this course.
Cincinnati Best Kept Secret
The East side of Cincinnati has geat courses. CEDAR TRACE is no exception. The track has character, challenging distance shots but plays fairly. Great overlook views and risk-rewards. For the money there is not a better course in the area and it rivals a nearby $70 course. Every year this course gets better. Great place for an outing or single play. Greens are in very good condition and fairways are kept well. Some bunker work is needed but that is more motivation to avoid them.
One of my favorite course
This course would go done as one of my favorite courses in the tri-state area enjoyed the par 5 holes this course provides very private course seems as your playing by yourself overall give this course an A
Great course design
Best greens I have played on this year. Challenging but fair. Will definitely play again
Pleasently Surprised
Reading other reviews I was a little Nervous to play here...but I was so happy I did!! Very nice Layout...nicely mowed fairways and plays very Fair...
Course is somewhat hard to find...GPS doesn't locate this course where it actually is...Could use some Signage to help people find it! Go play this course...the Staff were the best of ANY course I've been to!!
Great value
I was really impressed with course conditions. 18 holes on saturday afternoon was only $25 so I was not expecting much. Fairways and greens were in great shape. A few tee boxes needed work but over all a nice course with some challenging holes.
I respectfully and strongly disagree! Cedar Trace is no where near Stonelick. Think about it, $25 vs $79? Stonelick is wead free on tees/fairways. There bunkers are playable. Cedar Trace is a quality country course, but several leagues below Stonelick.
