Bridges - The Champion at Firewheel Golf of Garland
About
Firewheel Golf Park in Garland is home to the 27-hole Bridges Course, which is comprised of three nines that are played in different 18-hole combinations. Opened in 2001, the course has been host to several U.S. Open and U.S. Amateur events. The nines offer plenty of variety, each utilizing the tree-covered rolling terrain in different ways. The Champion nine is the second longest nine. It features large putting surfaces and sculpted fairways lined with mature oak and pecan trees. You'll run into a fair amount of strategically placed bunkers on this nine. The Rowlett and Spring Creek meander through the entire layout, coming into play on several holes. In addition to the three 18-hole golf courses provided by the Bridges, there are also the two other 18-hole courses at Firewheel, the original Old Course and the Lakes Course.

Good Course!!
Really nice course! Value for money! Greens were slow and punched. But wasn’t bad at all.
Great staff.
Awesome staff great pace of play. Greens are a bit of a challenge as they seem to be dead in multiple spots. Overall played great but greens make me what to find other courses.
Disappointed But Wish I Hadn't Been
I had not played this course in awhile and was looking forward to it. The Pro Shop staff was super friendly, the range balls were new, the grill staff and burger were great, and the weather was perfect but then.......
Went to putting green to putt a few before the round and realized it was aerated and was in poor shape. Turns out it that it was in the best shape of any green on the front nine. Ugh. I seem to recall in the past that GolfNow and/or the course would provide a heads up before booking a tee time. At least the back nine greens were in good shape.
Well, at least the pace of play was good....NOT!!!
Was the slowest round I have played in years. Waited on every single shot with nary a marshal in sight. I realize it was Saturday afternoon at a public course but the groups in front of us played slow enough to have groups stacked up 3 deep on the tee boxes.
Honestly, I had hoped to leave a more positive report and hope that GolfNow and the course report the aerated greens in the future. As for the pace of play, I recognize that a city owned course works on a shoestring budget but it might worthwhile to utilize a senior to at least drive around the course and ask groups to speed along if they become 3 or 4 holes behind over the course of nine holes.
Very different 9's
Traditions 9 was a bit rough but still playable. Bunkers haven't been touched in quite some time. Greens putted well but are a bit scarred from being bent grass in the summer so they keep them wet. Champions 9 is in great condition. Greens rolled well. Friendly staff and always fun to play here.
Bridges course
The fairways, bunkers and tee box are in good shape. Some native Texas grass has invaded some of the greens, but nothing that will ruin your round. Of the three Firewheel courses, the Lakes Course is in the best shape.
Firewheel
Played at the Bridges, where they have 3 nine hole courses. Played the Championship and Masters. Most of the driving holes are tight. Played from the blue tees 6600 yards. Greens are in good shape.
Bent Grass for a great value
Great value for Bent grass greens That are in really good shape especially for a public golf course.
Directions on Map Are Wrong
For everyone attempting to use the GolfNow map, be aware that the address takes you the opposite direction down Campbell. The entrance for the course in on Brand road.
Overall the course was nice. We ended our game short due to our cart battery dying. Course was fun and added a nice challenge.
Not happy
Greens were generally slow, fairways thin and hard...needs water, bunkers we're ok 50% of the course
Great place to play
Course was in excellent condition. Greens were great. Excellent place to play for the money. Would recommend this this place to anyone.
