Windy Knoll Golf Club
About
Windy Knoll Golf Club is known among locals as being one of Springfield's best public golf courses. The course was built in 2001, though you would not be able to tell from its traditional links design. It manages to be a classic links golf course while still being a challenge. The site was originally a horse farm and the design incorporates some of the features from the terrain's former use. Water hazards come into play frequently throughout the golf course and there are trees and rough lining the fairways. Golfers will find many risk-reward opportunities on the course, one good example being the par-4 eighth. This hole plays into the prevailing wind and if you miss your drive, you may find yourself in one of the eight bunkers surrounding the undulating green.

Course Conditions good
Started on back nine and before finishing high school golf teams were inserted on different holes. When making turn to front nine there were people ahead of us. We did not have anyone ahead of us until the high school golf teams were inserted. It was not a good situation. We were not told that was going to happen. We were told high school were going out after us not mixed in
Horrible layout greens were the best part of course
Horrible layout fairways were Horrible and not much of one only thing I liked was greens
Great course for a great price
$25 for 18 and a cart was a great value! The course is really nice and in great shape.
Struggle
I’m in a funk and I thought that this was the day that I would overcome my demons on the course. I was definitely wrong but it was not due to the tee boxes, fairways (which I did not see a lot of), or greens. Come to think about it I did not see a lot of geese today either. (+++++) All was very playable but unfortunately very slow. (5 hour round) Fortunately it was a nice day and was paired with a couple of good singles. Will be back but not until after Labor Day. Too slow. Ranger said he had to split up an 8 some that was 2 holes behind. ?????Come on golfers!!!!!!
Good time on a fun course. Needs a little love though.
The greens are still in good condition as are spots of the course but it certainly needs some TLC. Place use to be VERY nice. Most bunkers are in playable and there are sections of fairway that are dirt or suffering from mold. That said the place is still good and the rang is great. Worth the money. I still can’t believe the place still serves glass bottles at the halfway house. Broken bottles aren’t a good look.
So sad
The course has fallen on bad times , staff is still great but you can tell that the owners are not putting money into the course, was told that course will be closed in less a new owner steps up!
Really sad it used to be a great with good people running it now it’s not worth time or money.
Get rid of the silver tee markers
It can be difficult to see the tee markers. Why silver and white? Why not use can be easily distinguished? And on some of the more oddly shaped tee boxes, having only one marker leads to debates as where the line is.
One of my favorites
Play here pretty regularly I do wish they would cut down some of their tall grass area’s. You can’t find your ball if you land in one and even if you did there’s no way you can hit out of them. My only other problem with this course is they need to put there tee markers out on to the tee boxes instead of off into the tall grass area’s’s around the tee boxes so you can actually see them easily.
Played it many times
No matter have many times I play Windy I always enjoy it! Pace of play was excellent 4 hr round. Greens were in great shape. Bunkers had a lot to be desired…at least the two I was in. They were absent of most sand. But overall excellent course great clubhouse!
Windy Knoll
Great course for price point. Carts and clubhouse was nice, course conditions were great, well maintained greens & tee boxes.
Golfer beware
The course fairways have developed some sort of disease, fungus, ????, that is killing the grass. Splotchy patches are everywhere and increasing. Hopefully there is a solution so that the golf season isn’t affected. Traps are pretty rough also. Not much sand and what is there is packed. Not sure what was going on on this particular day but every pin placement was on the very front of each green.
