About
Windy Knoll Golf Club is known among locals as being one of Springfield's best public golf courses. The course was built in 2001, though you would not be able to tell from its traditional links design. It manages to be a classic links golf course while still being a challenge. The site was originally a horse farm and the design incorporates some of the features from the terrain's former use. Water hazards come into play frequently throughout the golf course and there are trees and rough lining the fairways. Golfers will find many risk-reward opportunities on the course, one good example being the par-4 eighth. This hole plays into the prevailing wind and if you miss your drive, you may find yourself in one of the eight bunkers surrounding the undulating green.

Course was in great shape considering it is early spring. Greens rolled well and in good shape. The pro checking in was not that friendly. I was 10 minutes late because I made wrong turn exiting highway 68.
Great course
Great course. Is challenging and great layout. For being the first nice weekend of the year the course was in great condition. Pace of play was good and well maintained. I will be going back multiple times this year. Also has a bar and grill next to the club house if you need something after the first 9.
Followed a 5 some.
Drove an hour to play because we like the course, only to get stuck behind a 5 some. Stopped in pro shop at turn to Express my concerns and was told well they play here all the time. So, upsetting other players because 5 guys play there all the time makes it right? Instead of leaving we went around them to 11 and played around and finished on 10 while the 5 some had 5 groups backed up. This might be our last visit to windy knoll as a result.
Beautiful course
This year the course has improved and is in beautiful shape. Challenging but enjoyable.
Needs attention
Didn’t like golf now customers, course has potential but under kept
Great course
Excellent course and great staff. Out foursome got there early and they let us go off early. They. Luse gets a lot of play from various events but is still in hreat shape. They are currently transitioning some bunkers in grass bunkers and they greens have seen a lot of play recently. I still highly reccomend playing a round or three here. The bar and the food are excellent as well!
Good all around test
Really good layout and pretty well manicured but greens were cut too short and basically unplayable because of the undulation, pin placements, and speed.
Outing Wear and tear
Labor day, think there was a lot of play or outings, only reason I didn't offer 5 stars was the condition of the greens. LOTS of ball marks and scuffs. Think at after a week, the greens could heal nicely and there would be a problem. Exceptional course otherwise. Always fun.
LOG JAM
Condition o.k. - fairways excellent but greens not.
Pins had not been set "flush" on holes #10 thru 18 meaning slight hump around them.
As was our experience last 2 times we played
Windy Knoll, the first 9 we played flowed smoothly
then we made the turn with a LOG JAM in front of us
comprised of groups who had not played the first nine
This made for a very very very slow 2nd nine resulting in an unpleasant loooong round.
Poorly ran
I loved the layout of this golf course. It was manageable from about any tee, for about any level of golfer. The greens were in fairly poor shape due to the lack of pitch marks and spike marks being repaired, the fairways were not maintained as expected, but the rough was manageable so we weren't searching for balls too long. The issue that I had, was that we arrived an hour early, and while I understand that since we were a twosome and they would have wanted to pair us up, there were SO MANY groups of 2 and singles that wanted to play through and we were even hit into as we were walking off of the 7th green from the foursome behind us that never did catch up with us after that. This is very upsetting as our twosome could have been sent off upon arrival as there weren't any groups from the time that we arrived, until the time that we teed off an hour and eight minutes later, only to have been rushed for our entire round. I will not go back and I have no desire to play on a course that I do not feel that I'm valued as a paying customer.
