Windy Knoll Golf Club
About
Windy Knoll Golf Club is known among locals as being one of Springfield's best public golf courses. The course was built in 2001, though you would not be able to tell from its traditional links design. It manages to be a classic links golf course while still being a challenge. The site was originally a horse farm and the design incorporates some of the features from the terrain's former use. Water hazards come into play frequently throughout the golf course and there are trees and rough lining the fairways. Golfers will find many risk-reward opportunities on the course, one good example being the par-4 eighth. This hole plays into the prevailing wind and if you miss your drive, you may find yourself in one of the eight bunkers surrounding the undulating green.

Very good course, possibly a slow day.
The course was in good shape with fast greens and tough pin placements. Weather was great. There was a twosome in front of us holding us up and wouldn't let us pass, so I definitely see pace of play as a potential issue as there was no ranger out. Overall though, a really nice course.
Fair test requiring your A- game
Choice of tees is essential here to match your skills appropriately for maximum enjoyment. If your index is over 18 don't try to be a hero and play from the tips as this course will swallow you. There's plenty of enjoyment from any set of tees.
A great day for golf
Windy Knoll is always in great shape. Both fairways, & greens are very nice. Greens was a little fast from what I remember. This course would be a good value at full price, but with the hot deal on golf now it is unbelievable. This is one of the best courses in Ohio.
One of the Best Values Around
Played on late Monday afternoon, was sent off the back 9 because of a college match on the front 9, and was able to get through the course before sundown. The layout is has some interesting elevation changes and mounding, which adds some variety and challenge to the course. 18 is an excellent finishing hole, a par 3 over water with the potential for some spectators on the restaurant's patio. Speaking of the restaurant, it is quite good with a variety of dine in food and beer options at reasonable prices. The only issue I have were that the fairways and some of the tee boxes were recently punched and there was no warning at check in, but I'm not going to hold that against them cause that's golfing life in Ohio at this point in the year. The greens, however, were lightning fast and very firm, making putting and chipping very tricky on these contoured greens. It's overall a very good choice for a round in the Dayton Area.
mistreatment by management makes us sad
A group of 4 women were dropped in the middle of a high school tournament this morning.. Had we been told upon booking (which we did via phone a few days ago) that there was a tournament going on we would have played another time. We knew instantly the boys would catch us so we skipped a couple of holes. We then found ourselves intertwined with spectators and parents the rest of our 9 holes. Not a very pleasant experience. No culpability on the part of the owner, or apology. His manager was equally as rude and condescending. When I told him I wouldn't be back, he told me that he didn't want us to come back. Very professional and customer service oriented..NOT. Too many golf courses in my area to see to go back to this one. Only redeeming factor was the restaurant and the friendly service there.
Worth the drive from Columbus
I wish this course was closer to me because I'd play it all the time. Very interesting layout with several interesting/challenging holes. I've played 8-10 times and have never payed more than $40 and have never played a round over 4.5 hours, even on weekends. The greens are very very firm but large. I'd say this is one of my favorite to play around Central Ohio area because of the value and character of course. Worth the drive.
Slow Play
After starting on the 10th the back nine was fine, good pace, but at the turn, going to 1 to finish 18 it went downhill. I'm thinking the people in front of us didn't start on 10 but on 1. They were the slowest golfers I've played behind this year. I guess the issue is where was the ranger to speed them up.. It just takes away from the game.
Great Time
First time playing the course.Tees and greens were better than most I had played this year. Greens were very nice and I thought they rolled true. Had fun and would like to play again. Overall well maintained course.
overated
For the money it's an average course. Very slow on weekends. Normal to see carts lined up at 1st tee box.
5 and 1/2 hours to play is normal also. Some staff are great. Cocerns are usually ignored.
This course has greens that are hard and fast.
Very nice course. Challenging with water on many of the holes and the greens are hard and fast. The course is in great shape and has the look and feel of a private course. It is very well maintained with all the amenities of a private club. I would highly recommend playing this course it is a great value for the money spent. In addition, the restaurant is a great place for an after round of food and drink. Very pleasant.
Great course
Everything was great. Beautiful fairways and the greens were really in good shape. Great place to play.
Back to windy knolls
I am so glad to have had the opportunity to return here for a round of golf with an old friend! The staff were great. Very helpful. The course was excellent. Pin placements extremely challenging. Birdie putts hard to come by, even harder to make! Overall, this had been a truly rewarding day on a real gem of a course.
Very well maintained course
The course was in great shape. It was a fun challenging track. However I had a bad experience with a staff member and I will not return for this reason. I wouldn't play this course again for free. I drove an hour, and paid almost double what I would at my normal course. I don't expect any special service, but when an employee talks down to me like I'm their child.... My hard earned time and money will be spent at ANY competitors course.
Aways worth the Drive
Live in the Columbus area and every year I head to Springfield to play Windy Knoll. Love the layout, fairways and greens are in great shape. Staff is very nice and you can't beat the price for a great course. Always walk the course and always tee off very early.
Nice Course
Excellent course and in good condition. Beautiful links layout.
The layout is very good
The problem with the course is that the greens are rock hard. You cannot hold an approach shot and a putt will not stop
Great course
Course was in fabulous shape, even in March. Staff was friendly, even though a morning frost delayed tee times by over a half hour.
great place to play
challenges from every tee box
greens roll well small aeration holes
friendly staff
Great course
This is the first year I have played Windy Knoll and I enjoyed so much that I have played it three times this year. The course and facilities are well maintained with challenges for golfers of any handicap. I will play the course again.
golf
I have played here many times and will be back again soon.
