Windy Knoll Golf Club
About
Windy Knoll Golf Club is known among locals as being one of Springfield's best public golf courses. The course was built in 2001, though you would not be able to tell from its traditional links design. It manages to be a classic links golf course while still being a challenge. The site was originally a horse farm and the design incorporates some of the features from the terrain's former use. Water hazards come into play frequently throughout the golf course and there are trees and rough lining the fairways. Golfers will find many risk-reward opportunities on the course, one good example being the par-4 eighth. This hole plays into the prevailing wind and if you miss your drive, you may find yourself in one of the eight bunkers surrounding the undulating green.

perfect for the money
this course is in very good shape and probably wouldn't play it if it wasn't for the deal I got on this web site, very expensive course.
Okay for the price
Got a good price on golfnow for 18, because the were aerating the greens. They had the front 9 closed
And were making everyone play the back 9 twice. I asked if I could get a rain check for the front 9 instead of playing the back 2x, but they were insistent in not giving a rain check. I ran into the same situation with Snyder park when they were aerating and they had the front 9 closed, but with them, when I asked for a rain check, they said "Sure, no problem!" Nevertheless, I've been back to Snyder multiple times since then because of the friendliness of their staff.
One of the best shorter courses around.
This course is somewhat short but challenging. It is full of rolling hills, turns and water. This course is well maintained and really fun! 18 holes can be played in less than 4 hours as long as you can keep your ball on the fairway and there is no one in front of you.
Great value for the money
Greens and tee boxes beautiful, fairways just aerated but totally playable. Loved it.
Recommend you play the course if you haven't already.
The course was in good condition given the lack of rain in the area. Greens were a little slower than the last time I played here. Overall, the course is a fun course to play and I would recommend you play the course.
Getting Better
This course has changed since I have played it last. They swapped the front to the back and back to the front 9, whcih is fine with me. It was being maintained while we were there, our tee time was 10:00, and by the time we hit the turn, there was still mowers out. It looks as though the course is nicer than the last time I played. Fairways were really nice, rough was kept trimmed, greens were as fast as usual. The only problem I have is with the loud obnoxious hovercart, which got stuck while we were there and it took a couple of guys to help get it out, which I thought was pretty funny.
Challenging Course in Excellent Condition
I drove about an hour to play Windy Knoll and it was worth it. It is a Brian Huntley design. I have played several other of his courses. This one is a solid challenge with water, sand and hills to protect the par 71 that plays 6800+ from the tips. It has five excellent par 3s, with 3 playing at least 180 from the grey tees at 6400 yards. There is a good mixture of par 4s, 5 over 400 years and one that is about 280. There are four good par 5s, I found number 12 particularly difficult and birdied 9.
The course is in excellent condition. The bunkers are well maintained, the fairways and rough are in very good condition and the greens roll very well and are true.
Great course! Super friendly staff!!
Have never left a review before, however had such a great experience felt compelled to. Have played some of the top rated courses in Ohio and this ranks near the top. The course was in great shape with a nice layout for links-style which i am not normally a big fan of. Wide fairways which are immaculate and has large greens that roll true. Rough was very nice as well. Had a great time and will definitely play again.
A long day on the Links
Course very crowded..seemed like 3 deep on every hole.
Overbooked.SLOW SLOW SLOW play.
Greens putted strangely... ...they had faint layer of sand on them. Couldn't get putts to "roll".
Course otherwise in good shape especially considering the recent weather.
Beautiful course
I would play here again anytime.... It was well maintained and the greens were perfect .
Great greens
Excellent day some very challenging holes. Treated very friendly. Greens were very fast and difficult to read. All things considered it was a very good experience.
Nicest Course I've played this year! HIGHLY Recommend!
This was the nicest course I've played all year. The new owners have the course in immaculate condition. Pretty cool that they are the first course in the country to have the Hover Craft Golf Carts available as well(think there are only 2 though). If you've never played this course, I HIGHLY recommend playing it. One of the best courses in the area and a fantastic value!!
Played like a links course - pretty firm and breezy
They removed some of the ridiculous tall grass on knolls between fairways. I like electric carts! Visually challenging, but there is space to hit the ball into wide parts of fairways.
Nice layout
One of the nicest courses I have played this year. Large greens, about average speed...not too fast, bent grass fairways & tees. Played with another guy. We were waiting on front 9 behind 3 some. Played thru them on back & finished in 3:05.
Course was great, challenging, and quite enjoyable.
We played on a Monday morning, showed up early enough to hit a couple of range balls but the range is not open on Monday mornings. But not a problem, Was allowed to start the back nine early and slipped in on the front nine, Quite enjoyable and will play again! Fairways, Tee Boxes, and Greens were in great shape. great value!
Go play this course
Went as part of a 4-some. All had played it before but myself. I have played around 20 different courses this year and if this isn't my new favorite, its near the top. Started off with super nice guy at the clubhouse, who actually didn't have our tee time for some reason but got us off 5 min past our original time which was fine as it gave us time to stop down at the bar. Play was a little slow as we were behind a slow 2 some, but we didn't care. I was very impressed with the course overall. Hard, but not so hard you get overly frustrated if you are not hitting them good that day. I made the comment mid-round that "I could play this course every week." If it wasn't an hour and a half from my house I just might. As far as my experience goes, they are doing things right, and I didn't play well at all. Can't wait to go back soon.
Country Club atmosphere at a public course price.
I have played this course in the past and thought it had the potential to be one of the great courses in the area. At the time the staff was dismissive and the course was somewhat overgrown and not well managed. I decided to give it a shot after hearing great things from other guys in the area, then I saw a mid week hot deal. To my surprise, it was a completely different place. The guys in the clubhouse were very friendly, the started chatted us up for a few minutes, to distract us from the wait at the first tee, and the course was in great shape. Greens were smooth and fast. Fairways were freshly cut and the bunkers were raked (i was in quite a few of them) The course is well worth the daily fee with no discount but if you can find a deal on this website, you will feel like you have gotten a real bang for your buck!
Great Course, Great Value
This course was in awesome condition. The greens rolled true at a good pace. Not as fast as they could be but this IS a public course. Pace of play was good given that the course was pretty crowded. Have played in under 4 hours many times here. The layout is challenging and there are several sets of tees to fit just about any level of golfer. The fairways are well maintained as are the tee boxes. In my opinion, this is best public course in the Springfield area. The horse statues and other remnants from the horse farm days make for some interesting scenery as well.
Good course
Good course. Challenging but not too difficult for the average golfer!
In great shape!
The greens rolled true and were very receptive. The traps were perfect. I have played this course in the past, and it by far was in the best condition that i have ever played it.
