The Preserve Golf Club
About
The Preserve Golf Club at Tara features Ted McAnlis' par 72, championship golf course. Exceptional care was taken to protect and enhance wetlands and other natural features of the course. At just over 7,000 yards, the course offers four sets of tees, allowing players of all skill levels to enjoy a challenging round of golf. Eleven bridges span the many small streams running through the golf course, protecting natural waterfalls and wetland habitats. A unique feature is the 60 foot Mount Matthew, which sits between the driving zones of hole five and six and forms an impressive backdrop for the tee shot. A beautiful clubhouse is open for lunch daily and is perfect for seminars, banquets or receptions.

LAVA Cup at Hilton Head Island Photo submitted by Tom3815047 on 11/01/2012
Greens were being restored so the flag ould 39 to 60 yards short of the green in the fairway. Due to thi ptrying to have decent put was next to impossible due to weeds and rough surface. I used to enjoy playing this course hopefully it gets back to normal soon
There is hope....
Have played this course yearly for the last 20 years and it has gone dramatically downhill BUT it has improved considerably since my last outing. This is a great lay-out and it shows that they are making a serious attempt to bring it back to some semblance of playability.
It would have been nice to know that there were only 2 greens in play but for a $10 Hot Deal I can't really complain. There have been dollars and man-hours invested although they seem to have forgotten the 7th hole.
I hope that these efforts continue as it is sad to see a good track die. See you next year....
Pasture Hill like course
Every green with the exception to one was placed in fairway near green or over sanding was on them. The worst I course conditions I have ever played in Florida. Thankfully I play only 12 dollars
In need of new management!
This place has gotten worse. Last time we played this course was 2 years ago and it was in the same shape…temp greens, weeds everywhere, total disarray!
Stay away from this place! Shut down, rebuild, and start over.
Course is in bad bad shape, but good for a beginner.
We played this course because it was inexpensive and my son is just learning. I could see that there were not a lot of tee times booked so I thought it would be a good place for him to learn and not be rushed with having to keep up with a strict pace of play. For this purpose, it was perfect. There were not a lot of people playing around us, we could take our time and he could redo shots he hit poorly. But the course is not in good condition. Really really bad actually. There were also fire ants everywhere and our legs go destroyed by them. That part was horrible. You really, really need to watch where you step and stand. But if you are a beginner, this much be a good place for you to start.
What is this place?
This could be free and I still don’t think I’d come back.
Best golf course in Sarasota
Can’t beat it. It’s awesome! A great time would recommend to anyone
Needs work
The fairways were OK. The tea boxes were OK. They were aerating the green so you were not hitting to the green. You were heading to the fairway. There was a sign that said they just opened up the front nine. But they probably should've just left it closed.
Surprise
We booked the course and were surprised that we have to play the back nines twice.
For Free, not worth it
It’s like playing golf on a poorly maintained range. Only one green worth calling it a green. No joke, as others said, just horrible.
Terrible
Staff was rude. Course conditions are just bad nothing like the pictures, fairways are 3/10 greens the same. Not worth it even for the price Should be a $25 muni course.
Absolute embarrassment of a course. The range never has large buckets. Paid $17 for 3 small buckets but half of them were chopped up from the mowers. Honestly nothing at this place is worth any money. The practice putting green has grown up and was unputtable, the pro shop is a shell of what it used to be, there are still temporary greens even after the course was closed for “renovations”. It’s a sad place and such a waste of time and money.
WORST GOLF EXPERIENCE EVER
if you like Marshall’s (whom the pro shop swear aren’t even on duty) cussing you out, driving down fairways at you just to stare at your shots, the same guy literally parking his cart on the fairway 10 yards behind you while you swing, 7/9 greens being shut down without any posted notice online, if you like a pro shop that makes excuses for their staff literally making you quit halfway through, then look no further!!! Never in my life have I been more mad at a course or its staff!! NEVER EVER GO HERE!!!
Awful not even any greens for putting just grass nothing is kept up they say its getting redone but not as of now its junk
This was the worst course I’ve played at.
The tee boxes were overgrown, fairways weren’t kept in shape, and there were practically no greens
Pretty bad tee to green
Tara has been pretty rough last few years with terrible tee boxes and below average fairways and greens. This weekend was even worse - all the greens are moved to temporary ones which are awful and given the poor maintenance of the rest of the course it’s really not enjoyable playing. Hopefully the new greens will make it all worthwhile in a few months - we can only hope.
Greens
Greens are being redone. Using temporary now. Tees and fairways aren't mowed. Stay away
