Clearwater Country Club
About
Located just minutes from the beach, the conveniently situated Clearwater Country Club sprawls across a coastal landscape of Spanish moss-draped trees and towering, mature oaks. Stevenson Creek meanders through the golf course, coming into play on six holes. Built in 1920, the layout has a traditional design that is challenging but fair. The course is tight but it plays long, especially on the par 5s. The rolling fairways are well manicured and the greens play at medium speed and are consistently well maintained. Clearwater C.C. actually has a reputation amongst locals for its superb conditions. It is also popular with visitors, snowbirds specifically, since the club offers the area's only seasonal and short-season membership with exclusive privileges. It is also one of the few clubs in the area that allows walking.

Painfully slow consistently.
Firstly I play this course often and I live nearby. It's always painfully slow and stacked up due to overbooking which is a regular practice here. 7 min or so between tee times and very often I see 5+ players per group. For the price you pay I would expect a lot more. I continue to give this course a chance but I can't remember the last time it wasn't awfully slow. Last round was 2 hours 45 min per 9 ON A WEEKDAY.....
6-Hours for 14 Holes
While not a member, I've historically been a fan of playing at Clearwater Country Club from time to time.
The course is generally in good-enough shape, the staff are welcoming, the greens are decent for the area/price (they roll true and flat), I have always played with great members and the public, and I've generally found the pace of play to be tolerable, if not downright enjoyable. There are certainly higher-end courses in the area, but I typically see CCC as a great value in the 'you get what you pay for - and sometimes a little extra' category. I appreciate the range, chip and putt area, and typically look forward to playing CCC.
Alas, this was NOT the case with our afternoon round on 2/27/22.
A tee time of 1:15 turned into a 1:55 tee off, in part because of major backups on the course, and in part because there were not enough carts to keep new groups flowing out.
The logjam around the starting area was pretty bad, although the Starter did his best to cycle and assign carts, and the cart shack crew was literally running to try to keep things moving. Despite their best efforts, we saw a few lags in getting groups out, and also realized that there were no less than 4 groups of 4 waiting to tee off ahead of us at our 1:15 start time - and we still didn't have a cart to load up... To be clear, I do not blame the staff that were managing the problem - they worked hard and were diligent - I just think they were given an unfair problem to manage through over-booking.
Waiting and watching a "nice afternoon round" stack up into an inevitable "grinding slog" is never a great feeling.
It certainly didn't add to the mood of the day to have the starting area being dominated by Loudmouth Larry, a CCC Member and first-rate blowhard who presented like a second-rate Rodney Dangerfield. His steady stream of noise, innuendo, and casual misogyny certainly made for an environment unbecoming of a co-ed environment, and while I get that Club Members have certain rights, I also think that should come with some responsibilities, and I am hopeful that CCC finds him as cringe-worthy as I did, and encourage them to be a bit more proactive in corralling (or simply sending out onto the course) such characters.
Speaking of 'Out On The Course" - Slow play is the bane of golfers everywhere. And Yes, Slow Play is often the name of the game in Florida in February, and we should just be glad to be outside and in the sun. But slow play by CCC members who actively contributed to the logjams (there were at least two groups of CCC members ahead of us, possibly more) that contributes to the slow play on the slowest of days is... rough, and beneath my typical experiences at CCC.
We had reserved a 1:15 tee time that we saw come, and go. At 6:05 we drove away from the green on #14, with 4 holes to go. That isn't golf. That is a slow-motion form of torture which sucks the joy from the game, and from the course on which it is played.
Optimizing golfer-rounds by stacking 7minute times on a course which cannot handle it - with golfers who cannot keep up - is a cash-grab and an insult to those who took time to come and play.
My suggestion is to get a few more carts so the right number of groups can be out, and/or simply add a few minutes to the tee time spreads, increase the green fees a few bucks for non-members to cover the spread (yes, me included), and figure out how to keep a round under 4:30 - on the slowest days - and still make the money you need.
6 hours for 14 holes should be an embarrassment to the course, the staff, the on-course rangers, and the membership.
I have expected - and received - much better from CCC in the past, but it's going to take a while for me to forget that horror show of a day....
Painfully Slow
Course Marshall required. 3 holes open in front of the group ahead of us. Nice course!
Condition
The fairways and most greens are in rough shape.
Busy place but the pace was good. Friendly staff
Inconsistent conditions..
Some hard Scrabble.
Sand is poor
Bait and switch
Called on 2-12-22 for a tee time on 2-14-22 and woman told me they do not have a 9 hole walking rate but to pay 34.95 per player for 18 walking, then walk 9 and receive a 9 hole walking rain check for another day. Made sense so my wife and I showed up and told Harrison McClimans in Pro Shop what the woman said on the phone. He, Harrison McClimans, said she should not say that but he would honor it and just come back after we play 9 for the rain check. After playing 9 holes he changed his tune and said no rain check. I argued that he just tricked me into paying the 18 hole walking rate to play 9 holes. Harrison McClimans is one belligerent guy who did not have the courage to just say no before we played the 9 holes. He credited me a lousy $10 and acted like he was making things right. Clearwater C.C. needs to review this guy and his way of treating the customer. Will never go back to this golf course.
A dog track
Take the other reviews to heed. This is a dog track course that is a money grab and they don't care.
Coughed up $50+ for a 5 1/2 hour round of golf. Around 6:30pm went to use the rest room after the round and the club house is locked tight. The Starter tells us to use the bathrooms on hole 6, where we learn that they are locked too!
Now the females in our group were not please, but apparently the starter found it amusing and oopps BTW the code is...
Tee boxes are packed mud, the greens are so fast it reminds me of the concrete surface on most miniature golf courses. Even if you get on the green, it's an automatic 3-4 putt.
Unfortunately, there are more snow bird golfers who just want to play a round, but don't do it at Clearwater CC, this course is a rip off.

Terrible pace of play
Turned up to play and a large group were allowed to fit in an extra 2 four balls
First nine hole took 3 hrs
