great course , great people. good time great weather
couldnt ask for a better day of golfing will definately come again
very nice course
Open fairways and challenging greens. You must be on the proper tier, to make birdies.
Challenging beautiful course
Course in excellent condition, staff is helpfull
We enjoyed very much
The course was a pleasure to play.
First the staff was very accomadating. Tee time was prompt and pace of play was adequate sometimes waiting but not for long. The course was in excellent condition and required lots of concentration and course management. Not being a member it was a honor to play such a course. I believe having non-members play at reasonable prices spreads good will for the club. Thank You.
Beautiful golf course. Wish I were a member there.
Played in very windy conditions, Course was in excellent condition. Brett, the pro was extremely helpful. Everyone I dealt with were very professional. I would definitey play this course again in the future. I played the orange course. Free range balls and a practice facility to die for.2/1/2013
The course is a little intimidating for a novice for the first few
The course is a little intimidating for a novice for the first few holes but opens up and a little more accomodating. The greens are beautiful and challenging. The course is attractive and well taken care of.
For a course available to the public in the area it is one of the better ones
We have played this course a number of times thru the years. When you play early afternoon it is always the same story. All the carts are out and you receive yours about 5 minutes before your tee time. The practise facility and range needs a cart to get to so you have zero time to use the range which is included with your fee and if you are lucky you get abut 3 minutes to putt before teeing off. You are allowed thru their gate one hour before tee time only. The course conditions were dry hard and the ball rolls and rolls especially off the green.
really nice
Really beautiful course for a great price @ $50. Most private courses on this level will be atleast double that.
Great venue!!!
Course was in great condition and the greens were perfect. Jack Nicolas did it to us with the undulating greens. Nothing went straight even if it looked flat. With the 25 mile an hour wind, the par 3, 88 yard 15th took 3 extra clubs to reach. What a blast!!! Had a great time and at a great price for such a wonderful course. Will be back again and looking forward to trying the Bob Culp 18 holes. Told that it is a bit more friendly but with more water holes than the Whispering Oaks 18.
Very nice, relatively new course
This was the first time I have played Verandah - Whispering Oak, and it was a great course. The fairways are fiarly open and the greens are very undulated and somewhat difficult as many Nicklaus courses are. I would highly recommend it to anyone.
Fairways are open and fair, greens are tough
Course was in very good shape and pace of play was great. Fairways are fair, toughest part of the course are the greens. Very undulating, pays to know pin placement and slope of greens.
good but difficult
Hard course especially the back nine. The greens are quick and undulating which makes the approach shot very important.good pace of play throughout.
Undulating greens keep your attention
The course was in great shape and played fairly tough. The fairways were generous (a feature of Nicklaus golf courses) but the greens were difficult. You had to find the correct segment on the green for a ligitimate putt at birdie. Get on the wrong side of the cup and you had a lightning fast putt to deal with. The starter was very informative at the start of the round and seemed genuinely pleased to have us playing. I'd go back for sure.
Challenging but fair
Keep it in the fairway and you can expect good scoring. Greens are true.
Great condition
We played Whispering Oak, the more wide open of the 2 Verandah layouts. The course was well-maintained, greens were awesome, and staff were helpful. I'd recommend this course to my friends for sure
Hard to expect to two putt. Greens roll very true!
This is a very friendly driving course with the biggest challenge being the greens. You must hit a section of the green if you intend to two putt without a real challenge...
Visually appealing
Decent practice area including range, chipping and putting areas. Course was in pretty good shape and has lots of appealing visuals for southern Florida. Greens are tricky as they feature lots of undulations. Pace of play was great, and we really didn't have an issue with slow play in front of us until late in the round.
Staff was friendly, both inside the pro shop as well as the starter. Would play again if the price is right.
Great features
We got to the course thinking we could use a full hour of hitting balls and loosing up, seeing the price included range balls. But were kept at the gate until an hour before our tee time. By the time we got our cart and checked in we had less than 35 minutes to our tee time. However, the course was fun to play very challenging and in great shape. Pace of play was super and all in all we had a great round. I would definitely recommend it.
Most holes, wide open fairways, but still plenty to get in trouble... nice greens, pretty fast. Good sand in the greenside bunkers.
We liked it enough, but I don't think it was as challenging as some of the ratings I read on this site. (And, we're pretty much weekend golfers.) (Moderate handicaps.) The course was very well maintained...pretty fairways and naturescapes. But, again, I don't think it was as challenging as some have said. We didn't play all that well, but it was not because of the course being too challenging! I think from tee to green it was just moderately hard (except for a few holes where there was trouble in the middle like waste areas, fairway sand, etc...) Green were slick and undulating, sort of like a PB Dye course. We play alot of courses around the Ft. Myers to North Port areas and think there are courses just as good for less money. Heron Creek, Bobcat Trail and Kingsway in North Port areas, Pelican Preserve near the airport and Magnolia Landings in N. Ft. Myers. All of these are quite enjoyable, I think more challenging and using online booking you can get deals at least $10-15 less than Verandah - maybe even more. We assumed that with a last minute online special to fill up the course ($69) we'd be playing a premier course... oh, one final thing that was just annoying. My husband gave the bag attendant $5 to clean up our clubs and put them on the rack while we went to get the car. My husband looked at his clubs when we got home and said the bag attendant did a poor job of cleaning the clubs and probably didn't clean off all of them. That's just poor business. We played in the early afternoon and finished up around 4:30 on the 12th of January. (If management reads these reviews and cares, you can probably determine who was working at that time of that day.)
Long tee ball is rewarded on this course but the greens are tricky.
Picking the right tees is the key to challenging yourself on this course. The fairways are perfect and if you want a challange, move back one more tee than your comfort zone and let it rip. Practice facilities are excellent so take advantage to warm up and get a feel for the greens, they are a tricky, but fair. Be sure to ask about pin placement and green speed for the day, it will help you enjoy the day! Staff meet and greet you as you would expect with a premium course, everyone was friendly. Allow time at the end of the day to enjoy the lounge/deck, very enjoyable.
