Treat
If your in Florida and not a millionaire you should treat yourself once a month and play Shell Point!
It’s a fabulous facility, a little pricey but you get REAL green grass and country club amenities!
Whatever you do don’t play Sanible Country Club you will be really disappointed and you’ll pay $25 more!
I played in a foursome on Saturday am 1/27/18 at 11:38. We finished in four hours and 15 minutes. Scoring was difficult with a 2 to 3 club wind. Greens were in great condition , they were advertised to be rolling at a 10 but I don't think they were really rolling that fast. 2 of the holes were cart path only. A few of the fairways had some bare spots , which is disappointing for this time of year. The. Layout is a little tight at times. Not an easy course to score on for a first timer. You are probably better off leaving your driver in the bag on most holes. A fair tract for a fair price. The course is alcohol free , FYI..
It could be so much better
Firstly the course is OK. It isn't long and it does have a few tight holes with hidden water. So on that score it is OK. The ranger came round the front nine and we were OK, it was slow but not too bad. We stopped at the turn for the usual hot dog. The lady there was fabulous and very helpful. The group behind us went through us. Not sure if that is the usual etiquette here but they were really slow without any intention of saying anything or returning us to our rightful slot. Typical retirees in Florida, no awareness of others and wont spend a dime on anything.
Back to the day. At check in at the pro shop, it would have been so much more useful to get an idea of what and where to go. They weren't helpful and then checking with one of the starters, it was cash payment for the basket of balls. just add it to the price of the golf and let the players know before they get out there without cash!. Evidently a good money earner for the guys on duty there!
We had a practice put. The sign said 10 on the speed, more like 8 to 9, pretty slow. Good green grass but too long and slow really. There we met the second starter who sent us on our way.
When we were done, we passed our car so dumped the clubs in the car and took the cart back to the guys. OMG!! The guy had a face like thunder and was as miserable as can be. I actually said "cheers up its the end of the day". He was evidently unhappy about something and just asked if I was done with the cart. I asked if there was a problem, which he said he just wanted to get the cart away. As it happens, he was upset that there were no clubs on the cart for him to clean and earn a tip. Take note you mr miserable, I still had a tip, it was just easier to dump the clubs before getting there but the tip stayed in my pocket. Don't judge others by yourself, or go do something that keeps a smile on your face all day
Would I return, no! Plenty of clubs with a better experience
All ways happy to play this course.
Excellence; how ever fairways have been played hard and. need work. Otherwise, we always enjoy this course,
Disappointed
I have played this course 5 or 6 times every year we come down from in Indiana for the month of January. I have always had a pleasant experience with a good pace of play. We were put out on the back nine and moved back to the front nine at the turn. The first nine took 2 hours. At the turn we encountered several elderly couples groups teeing off before we could tee off on 1. These couple groups were playing 9 holes. The second nine holes took 3 hours. We saw several rangers rise by the groups ahead of ya without acknowledgement that there were 2-3 hole open ahead of the foursomes we trailed. I have encountered this procedure from other clubs. It basically favors the members and penalizes outside players. I will not return to Shell Point in the future. The course was in good shape and had a nice range/practice area.
a favorite golf course in Fort Myers
What's not to like? Professional, courteous staff. Beautiful manicured property. Lovely greens...white fluffy sand in the traps...good signage all around..The only thing bad about Shellpoint is that they do not sell beer .....what's up with that??
No Value
This course was average at best .The rental clubs were garbage and for the money they should have at least been average. They did not even have matched irons and the course was almost empty so they were not out of good clubs. Also. this course layout requires accurate shot making and distance yet no course information is provided on the score card or a supplemental guide (if there was one it was not offered). Very poor overall.
Fun
What a difference, new course set up ,20 million in renovations, fantastic value for the buck !!
Fun course short
course was a fun short layout. For the good golfer driver shouldn't leave the bag. Every hole different but very tricked up course. Canals cut across several holes to make the short layout harder. Best to describe course as tricked up. Half of course was over seeded don't know why. Greens good and fast. Subtle breaks too. Great for below average golfer or the ladies
Shell
Good course for Golfnow price but not for she'll point price
Best course for the money
If you want to play a great course this is the one to play. Choose your tees carefully as there are a few holes with possible layups or longer than normal carries. If you like it as much as I do you'll keep coming back.
nice Florida course
We had a great day out. The course was in fine shape. Fairly narrow, lost a few balls, lots of local knowledge needed to score well. Greens in good shape, medium speed.
Nice course - well maintained
Have played here a lot -- nice course and very well maintained. For the money probably one of the best value in Southwest Florida. Course is challenging without being punishing. Latest round was on a particularly business day -- almost 5 hours! for our four some. Try the course you won't be disappointed (bring lots of balls)
