Providence Golf Club

I played a day after the storm. Course was wet so cart path only. Even though it was wet the course was in great shape. Excellent lay-out and the staff is very friendly.

Providence is very close to home, and I play there when the rates are good. Yesterday was one of those days. I had been out of town most of the week, and Hurricane Helene passed by off the west coast during the week but my son said we hadn't gotten a lot of rain from it. This course has a tendency to get very soft with moderate rain, but...off I went. Nobody said anything when I checked in about restrictions, soon the first hole I started to drive out to my ball in the fairway, and the cart stopped and warned me to return to the cart path. I thought, maybe it was just that hole. For the rest of the 18 it was cart path only. I don't mind a little more walking, but it would be nice to know ahead of time.

Because it was also very hot and humid (heat index was over 100) there weren't many folks out. I played through one group on the ninth hole, and that was the only group I saw during my 2:30 round (I was a single). A good quick round is always nice...even with cart path only and the heat.

One thing needed here is either a composite White/Red course, or another set of tees. At sea level with no roll due to the moisture 6000 yards is a long course for me. But, the reds at only 5000 seemed too short. I ended up playing 8 holes from the red tees and 10 from the white for a course of about 5500 which worked pretty well under the circumstances. It would be nice to know what the slope and index of something like that was so you could count it for handicap.

Course is in excellent condition. Greens are running fast. Pro shop staff are cordial.

seeing all the "development" going on in the immediate vicinity, it would seem, to me, very likely the golf course will be turned in to a development as well ...

had not been here in a couple of years and it is worse than I remember...too bad, I'm sure it holds a lot of sentimental and location value to many...but there is no $ , it appears, to maintain it properly let alone fix what is broken

Course is in good conditions. Staff is friendly and they have a nice set up.

This was my second time playing here. The course was in good shape. Pace of play was good as well. And the course features one of my favorite things in golf, a drivable par 4.
