About
Lake Wales Country Club boasts a classic Donald Ross design that players of all skill level will enjoy. Built in the 1920s, the golf course has a different look and feel than most modern courses. Rather than exaggerated hazards and dramatic contouring, the layout blends seamlessly into the natural landscape. The routing of each hole was determined by the existing contours. Like many of Ross' designs, the phrase "hard par, easy bogey" holds true here. The layout features small greens with crown centers that are sloped back to front. Rough borders the fairways and the wide-openness of the course means that wind will often be a factor. Lake Wales C.C. is a challenging but straightforward golf course. There are no trick holes but there are several holes that will make you think.

Golfer Reviews
BunkersBunkers
Check in was a breeze....pro shop staff and starter very accommodating.Tee boxes and parts of fairways lacked grass growth.Greens were excellent but your approach shots had to be accurate as most greens were protected short/long left and right with deep bunkers..Greens rolled nicely but I tended to overread the breaks.
Fast Greens
Basically wide open, fairways are OK, rough is dormant and not much grass. Price makes it attractive but it is a long drive from Orlando area. Probably would not go back.
Member for a day? Not a chance!
Booked here to audition LWCC for possible membership after letting ours lapse at Lake Ashton. First words we heard after greeting were "since you're here on a Golf Now tee time, you are not allowed to use the range." So they'll sell you golf and a cart, but if you want to warm up before the round, do it somewhere else. So much for treating you like an honored guest.
No overseeding for the course. Greens are almost ridiculously fast as the grass is dormant. This is fine for the fairways and rough, but they ought to consider overseeding the tees and greens for their busy season. It was a nice layout that at one time must have been a real gem. Same with the facilities that were obviously once very nice, but now show years of neglect. The bar closes at 5:00.
I would say for the money, there are many better choices.
Disappointed
Bumpy greens, brown fairways, was really looking forward to playing, have heard it is actually getting better since the new owners took over, I'll try it again next year.
Need to think your way to a good score.
Very enjoyable course in great shape especially around the greens. Worth the drive to Lake Wales.
Fun course to play
Due to the time of the year, the greens had sparse grass on them. During the spring, summer and fall months the greens are usually in very good condition.
Disappointed
I was excited to play a course where the Symetra Tour plays but it was in AWFUL condition. Fairways and rough were brown. The greens were fast but had dirt spots everywhere. The Symetra Tour is coming to this course in a month and a half. It's going to be a miracle to get it in even good condition.
Windy
Played on a windy day which made the course much more demanding that it normally would be. Wide enough fairways that there is not a lot of trouble from tee to green.Sand in good shape. The Bermuda was dormant so very tight lies in the fairway and around the greens. Once you reach the greens, that's where the fun begins. The greens are fast with lots of break, both obvious and subtle. It took me a long time to get comfortable with " reads" of the greens. Great difference in speed with subtle downhill versus up hill puts.Would like to play it again on a calm day.
Course in rough shape
We booked on Golf Now. Arrived and found out we would be playing with a scramble around us. Paired up with another couple, who were delightful to play with -- but the course is in terrible shape, except for the greens. Golfed only 9 holes and quit.
Enjoyed
Glad to play and very clean course with no area to loose balls. Most greens very good and challenging.
Staff. Rey good.
The gentleman in the pro shop was extremmely friendly and helpful. After nine holes the rain got heavier and he gave my partner and me rain checks .
see review box above. We returned the next day to play nine holes again
Classic Donald Ross
A friendly warm welcome and treatment by all staff. We were paired up with a very nice couple of intermediate skills with excellent golf etiquette. The traditional old layout was fair. It would have been well above average if it wasn't for several fairways seemingly burned out (ball bouncing unusually off line) and with the greens being incredulously fast, which were clearly almost burned out. Even the other couple agreed the greens needed help. Fast greens are preferred but, burned out is a shame as the course could be better test if the greens ran at a fair fast pace. Hoepfully, course super can sort out.
Very friendly staff
The day was a very enjoyable experience. The gentleman in the pro shop and the starter were very friendly and helpful. The course was a beautiful Donald Ross layout and was very playable for golfers of all abilities.
Fun course to play
Nice to play an old course, looks as it has stop in times, even the members.
Great layout and well maintained
As always LWCC was in great condition, the pace of play was good and above all the staff was very friendly and professional. I always like playing this Donald Ross course. We look forward to our next round at LWCC.
Nice Course
This is the first time playing the course, and as a group we enjoyed it very much. The greens were fast and true and it drains very well. The distance between the red and white tee boxes is quite lengthy. It drizzled most of the day on us but the carts were equipped with covers for our clubs. I would play again.
