About
Lake Wales Country Club boasts a classic Donald Ross design that players of all skill level will enjoy. Built in the 1920s, the golf course has a different look and feel than most modern courses. Rather than exaggerated hazards and dramatic contouring, the layout blends seamlessly into the natural landscape. The routing of each hole was determined by the existing contours. Like many of Ross' designs, the phrase "hard par, easy bogey" holds true here. The layout features small greens with crown centers that are sloped back to front. Rough borders the fairways and the wide-openness of the course means that wind will often be a factor. Lake Wales C.C. is a challenging but straightforward golf course. There are no trick holes but there are several holes that will make you think.

Golfer Reviews
Friendly course, freindly staff
The good: Fairways are rather wide with not many doglegs. The staff was excellent, knowledgeable, and well trained. The greens were moderately quick with breaks and contours which were true to the eye.
The bad: $10 for practice balls? Yes, they're unlimited, but most of us only need a few... The fairways were a bit chewed up as were some tee boxes. There is a marshall, but pace of play was rather slow.
Enjoyable Round of Golf at Lake Wales
Things I noticed about Lake Wales:
- greens in good condition
- wide fairways
- bunkers in good condition
- excellent value
Beautiful Ross course
It was a cloudy morning with rain in the forecast, so I took the opportunity to tee off 1/2 hour earlier than my time. Because of the threatening weather, there were few golfers. Playing alone, I played through a two some and a threesome and finished in under two hours, the last three holes with a moderate rain. The course condition was better than the two other courses I had played the two days before. This 1926 course was well worth the money. I'd like to play it again in fairer weather and not such a rush.
Good Layout
Nice but pace of play was slow.
Great layout. fun to play..
THIS expieriance was great .
Great pace
We were the only ones out there because it was very cold and windy. We were dressed warmly, and had a nice time.
Wide fairways
We enjoyed our round of golf at this course with its nice practice area and wide fairways. We especially enjoyed playing with "bob" who was a very good golfer yet a lot of fun. He also had booked on golfnow.com
Not in Good Condition!
I was looking forward to playing this course based on the description and reviews. The fairways are mostly flat and have a lot of roll due to the lack of quality turf. The greens were in poor condition although some were fast and ran true apparently for the college qualifying round later that afternoon. One of the par 5's on the back had about 1/3 of the green under repair. The "well bunkered" greens had about a half inch of sand over dirt and appeared to be groomed by machines as the balls almost always ended up rolling to the middle. The course needs work.
Great features of Lake Whales County Club
Our experience started with the frindly staff, a nice driving range and putting green. The fairways was in good shape and the greens in excellent shape, faster than other nearby courses. We had a good lunch in the club house after the round.
Great Staff
The wecolcome was great, the corse is very good. The problem we had we were a 2 ball following a 3 ball they had no one in front of them we waited on every shot. Anyone who knows anything about golf etiquette you let people though, they did not have clue.
Very Playable Course
While this former private country club has been around a few years, the course is a nice layout and is playable for the average golfer. The staff was great and the course provided a nice afternoon of golf. I would play it again.
Great Old School Experience
True Greens, wide fairways & limited water. Forgiving course but challenges shot makers with multiple large traps at landing zones & around elevated greens. Really enjoyed the round.
very good course
nice course overall, conditions good. Lots of bunkers. We were a 2-some playing behind 4 members who played slow - there was an open hole in front of them from the 3rd hole to the end and they did not let us play thru. We took a 15 minute break at the turn for lunch and caught them on hole 12. They took a break on hole 14 and still did not let us play thru. No rangers either. Too bad the members are not courteous to others.
great course
great course, if not for golf now we would not be able to play such a fine course, greens are perfect, fairways have lush grass, play is a little slow because it is so busy, good people to deal with
First time
The staff and members were probably the friendilest and informative of any course I've played at. The course itself is rounding into good shape even though the greens were a little slow, but otherwise fun to play. We played in three and one half hours and enjoyed the refreshments from more friendly staff in the clubhouse afterwards. Overall a great experience at a reasonable price.
Fun course to play
First time playing this course and I walked away pretty happy. The course was in very good shape. There were a couple of greens that needed some work, but it did look like they were trying to get them back in great shape. Staff was excellent. I did not eat at the course but they do have a full restaurant and bar available. The course fairways are forgiving, but if you stray towards the green, there is an excellent chance you will be in the sand. Overall though very happy, will play again.
Gentle course
Staff were brilliant, very friendly and helpful. The course was very open and straightforward. Shame some of the greens had been seeded. We enjoyed the round.
