Links of Sandpiper
About
Links of Sandpiper in Lakeland offers a traditional links layout that sprawls across rolling terrain. The course is player friendly enough for players of all skill levels to enjoy but it has enough challenges for more advanced players as well. The course is anything but flat, and the ups and downs are the most challenging element you'll encounter. The small, undulating greens and narrow landing areas off of the fairways demand accuracy. Combined with elevation changes and strategically placed bunkers, proper club selection and course management also play important roles. Picking the right lines from the tees into the greens requires careful thought. You'll face a few blind shots thanks to the rolling terrain and there are also several bunkers strategically placed along the greensides. Links of Sandpiper's final four holes are the toughest stretch.

chaos golf
if you're looking for a Course, that's chaotic go here. That's all I can say, golf balls flying everywhere. You practically need a helmet. We almost got hit three times just on nine holes. Wish I could say something good about it, it used to be a decent course, but then they decided to squeeze all those homes in on the other side, and again wear your helmet.

Not long but good value
Conditions were good, although grass around greens was a little sparse on a number of holes. Pace was decent, finished under 4 hours. Liked the layout on the back nine except for the last two holes. Staff friendly, no driving range but practice nets available.

Slow and not Marshalled
Reasonable layout. Dry. Lots of rolll. Very very slow. No points if booked through golf now and payment at course only. Not sure I will return

Fun course
The design and layout makes it a fun course to play. I played on a Saturday and it was very crowded.

Much Improved!
Great staff. Perfect greens and tee boxes. Great value for the price point. It’s the busy season so it was a 4 1/2 hour round?! But if you haven’t played here lately, it’s much improved.

Scotland Yards
Very enjoyable course. Very open fairways, greens have always been in good shape. Really like the layout with some holes having elevation changes with nice views. Would definitely recommend this course.

General Review
I have been golfing Sandpiper for the past 15 years and must say that overall the course has greatly improved over the past four to five years, since it has been under new ownership. The people in the pro shop bend over backwards to be friendly and accommodating and those in the dining area always make you feel welcome. I have lived in the Lakeland area since 2006 and have golfed almost every course within a 50 mile radius and would rate Sandpiper as one of the nicest in this part of Florida.
jimcolon, thank you for your kind words! The team has worked very hard to get where we are, and we appreciate golfers like you taking notice. We hope to see you again at the course very soon for another 5-star experience. Thanks for choosing Links of Sandpiper
Open and tight all at once...
Someone in one of my groups recently mentioned this course and said they had enjoyed it, so I thought I would give it a try.
True to links style (more on the front than back), the course offers some holes with options to play a run on shot. The only issue is, the course has few barriers from one fairway to the next, and holes are right next to each other, so...people end up in your fairway quite a bit. Surprisingly, that really didn't seem to impact the pace of play much. On a busy, 80 degree January Sunday, we were out at 11:07, and in at 2:55.
The course is short (5479 from the white tees), but that can leave a lot of partial wedge approaches that will challenge most amateurs. There's some gimmicky "water hazards" on a few of the holes that it helps to have someone who knows the course point out. Houses are right against the course in some areas, so pulls and pushes may go missing.
As expected at this time of year the course was dry, with a fair bit of run to it (and with the sloping of some fairways that played a lot like links golf). A fun course. I'll have to get my regular group out there at some point.
My one issue...I couldn't find a slope or index anywhere on the card, or the course card handout.

Nice Value
For $30 it’s great. It’s short. Tight. Has some quirky holes. But fairways weee good and greens rolled nice. Back to back par 3’s and they are literally right next to eachother. But for $30 I’d go back. Back 9 nicer than the front.

Front 9 ok
Very Gast greens on the front. Back had water in strange places. If you don’t know the course, it’s a problem. I’m

The front nine allows for some scoring chances. Wide open with very little danger. The 3 par3's, 3 par 4's and 3 par 5's make a nice combination. The back nine totally different. Especially #12. Water comes into play left and right forcing you to hit straight down the middle to have any chance of making a par. Then you have to play over water to approach the green. Not sure handicap of hole but found it to be toughest on course. If in the area again, would like to play again.
