About
Big Cypress Golf Club is part of a gated golf retirement community called Cypress Lakes. Conveniently located between Orlando and Tampa, the club offers two golf courses, the North and the South. The South Course is a championship layout that is more challenging than the executive-length North Course. Both courses are characterized by the abundance of water and swaying palms, offering the best of Florida golf. The South Course plays a long 6,680 yards from the back tees. The course presents a more demanding test than the North, appealing to more advanced players. Florida Golfer and Senior Golfer have recognized its challenging layout for its excellent conditions and design. Maintenance is a top priority at Big Cypress; on both courses the well manicured fairways and greens are consistently in good shape.

First time playing it
Really nice course lot of hidden trouble
Would recommend a yardage book if they have one
The course was fantastic can’t wait to play it again
A Floridian gem
Never played here before not even heard anyone talk about it but I certainly will be back.
From the person at the gate house, the course ranger, the professional shop and the bar and catering employee’s they all score 10 out of 10.
The course was lovely from tees to green I could not complain about anything. The lovely detailed carvings that popped up around the course is a lovely touch. The greens ran true with a fair amount of pace so no forcing your putts.
I would suggest anyone playing the course for the first time to either use your golf GPS, get a yardage planner (not sure if they sell them).
I got caught out twice not knowing the distance to water and carried my ball in to it. Also a couple of dog legs not knowing the run out caught me out as well but this is no blame to the course it was all my fault. After the round we were informed it’s ranked the 3rd best municipal course in Florida and I am not shocked. All round great day was had we thank you all for letting us sample this great course.
One of the best courses in Lakeland
We had a great day perfect weather. The course is always in great condition with a great layout. I look forward to playing big cypress every year at least 2-3Xs.
My brother and I played it first time we played it conditions are excellent beautiful golf course would recommend it
Not a 4.6 rated course
This is a retirement community with better than average golf courses. The greens were just sanded which would of been nice to know. Like putting on a hard beach. If your looking for an upscale high rated course look elsewhere. It's a 4.0 course.
Diamond in the rough
The fairways are perfect! The greens had been punched and sanded but putted smooth and fast. Very interesting and varied layout and will challenge every golfer. I have already booked another t-time.
Best winter/spring conditions around
Short challenging course.
Course was in the best condition of any course I played in Lakeland, Tampa area so far this year!! Fairways were lush and greens were very good. Overseeding was full and complete even the rough was nice. Best value I’ve received this winter. Will definitely recommend.
Great condition, friendly staff
Drove a reasonable 45 minutes from downtown Tampa on Easter. Having doubts that their grille would be open (with everywhere being shut down for the day), I called ahead & was told it'd be no issue. Then I received a PROACTIVE call from Carl at front desk & he doublechecked for me & the grille would actually be closed for the holiday. All was reasonable and I appreciated the callback; it allowed me to grab a bite before arriving to the course. Carl was OUTSTANDING. Great to find a course where the staff actually cares!
Course conditions were great. Tee boxes, fairways, greens - all higher quality. Challenging greens; not many straight putts. Hazards are aplenty but theyre mostly out of the way making this course very enjoyable to play. I hope to be back!
