South Course at Big Cypress Golf & Country Club
About
Big Cypress Golf Club is part of a gated golf retirement community called Cypress Lakes. Conveniently located between Orlando and Tampa, the club offers two golf courses, the North and the South. The South Course is a championship layout that is more challenging than the executive-length North Course. Both courses are characterized by the abundance of water and swaying palms, offering the best of Florida golf. The South Course plays a long 6,680 yards from the back tees. The course presents a more demanding test than the North, appealing to more advanced players. Florida Golfer and Senior Golfer have recognized its challenging layout for its excellent conditions and design. Maintenance is a top priority at Big Cypress; on both courses the well manicured fairways and greens are consistently in good shape.

Water, water, everywhere!
This was a good test of my abilities. Errant shots either found water, jungle or humps. You must stay in the fairway to score. This course was in the best condition of any of the courses in this price range. It was a shotgun start the afternoon that I played, but the completion of the round was in a timely manner. Greens were difficult for me to read since it took 34 puts (usually 28-30 for me) for the round. This is a private course, so access to it is very limited. The north course is just an executive course, so bear that in mind when scheduling an outing.
Fab layout in good condition
Played in a Tuesday members shotgun 1pm start. Course was presented in excellent condition for the time of the year. A really interesting track, well worth a visit.
Nice with a little pucker factor
I really enjoyed the course. But the pucker factor was in play. The front side was a little tight off the tee There were many forced carries over water to the green. The greens were medium speed except for the greens with new style grass which were quicker. I as told by the starter all the greens would be completed by next year. The green were generously size and very undulated . Overall bring your A game.
Golf in Wildlife Haven
The course is in very good condition especially the greens and fairways. There are some challenging holes that call for good shot selection. Water is present through out and a significant factor on a number of holes. We welcome was warm and involving which was a plus as we played in a club shotgun start event. This is a retirement community and the whole environment cries out order and routine in a beautiful and tranquil location.
Classic course
Great fast greens. Rolling flattish fairways. Similar to Rio Pinar but with more water in play. Definite replay. Never did see the big cypress but has many trees.
Surprised
My golf partner and I were surprised with this course. The course provided us with a challenging layout and a enjoyable day. It was very crowded though and we had to start shot-gun style.
this course has challanging features
very challenging course in excellent condition. greens in great
shape.
Great Course
This place is a hidden gem. The course winds through a +55 community that's all mobile homes. The condition of the course is outstanding. Greens roll true, fairways are plush, rough is maintained and bunkers are consistent. The only thing keeping me from giving it 5 stars was the pace of play. I'd rather play this place in 4 1/2 hrs though, than a goat ranch in 3 hrs. I will be back.
Scenic holes in well maintained condition
We had a great time. Course is filled with wildlife making the round even more enjoyable. It's on our "A" list from now on when we can get a tee time.
The private status really showed the members care about their course as everyone was very helpful, including the playing members. Looking forward to our next round.
OK until the snowbirds arrive...
The South course is a fair test and very playable for the most part but since it is closed to non-members during the winter season, it is good not to become too fond of it .
Great Course
From the time I arrived until I left this was one of the best golf experiences I have ever had. Staff was super friendly and overly helpful. Played alone, which was ok as this was my first time on this course. Conditions were immaculate. Probably one of the best, if not the best, courses I have played. Very friendly layout for the recreational golfer. Lot of water, but very fair landing areas. Definitely on my "play again" list.
Challenging South Course, just pace of play way too slow
I am a 2 handicapper and they started the entire afternoon off on a shotgun start. I was using the Golfnow rate and was left to play alone which is fine. But all the groups in front of me were slow foursomes. The round took over 5 hours. Way too long. Some of their players belonged on the Executive course not the South Course.
Staff was great, conditions were solid for Winter golf.
Not a challenging course
If you have your ball on the fairway from the tee box you should score well
A gem!
We played this course for the first time this year and enjoyed it enormously. The course was in very good condition. Interesting holes. We shall be back.
