South Course at Big Cypress Golf & Country Club
About
Big Cypress Golf Club is part of a gated golf retirement community called Cypress Lakes. Conveniently located between Orlando and Tampa, the club offers two golf courses, the North and the South. The South Course is a championship layout that is more challenging than the executive-length North Course. Both courses are characterized by the abundance of water and swaying palms, offering the best of Florida golf. The South Course plays a long 6,680 yards from the back tees. The course presents a more demanding test than the North, appealing to more advanced players. Florida Golfer and Senior Golfer have recognized its challenging layout for its excellent conditions and design. Maintenance is a top priority at Big Cypress; on both courses the well manicured fairways and greens are consistently in good shape.

This is a private course and community and which I live, however the management treats the residents as second class!
Okay, but slo-o-o-o-o-w
While the course was interesting and in good shape, do NOT play here if you expect to complete your round in four hours or less.
Pricey but nice...
The course is in great condition and the greens are probably the best around. Rolling fast but true if you can read them. The only negative is the price to play. If it weren't for the GolfNow opportunity the greens fees would be too steap for my wallet. Shame as this drawback forces me to play elsewhere when at times I would like to play this course which is local.
A little hidden gem
I was on my way from Orlando to Tampa and I wanted to sneak in an early round of golf. I came across Big Cypress in my search and I'm so glad I did. This course is a little gem. It's not the longest course I've played (only 6600+ yards from the black) but the approach to the greens make it challenging. Greens are great - rolls smooth and true, fairways and tee boxes are in good shape. Staff are friendly and fellow golfers will allow you to play through. Worth checking out.
Big Cypress South a pleasant surprise
Excellent greens, fairways just OK but overall a pleasant surprise. Nice course, friendly staff. Great value for the money, I would play again for sure.
Must play
Outstanding conditions; outstanding layout; outstanding value. Good room off the tee; a few places local knowledge helps and was glad my playing partners were familiar w course: "don't hit driver. there's water just over the rise." (e.g. 18th hole)
Enjoyed the round
The course is in great shape.
snowbird bonus
great shpe wonderful greens good staff
lots of gators
Very nice
Had a good day golfing at Big Cyprus South course. Conditions were great!
Pleasant experience
The greens were in great shape and fairways were good. Only issue is with all the water, the holes start looking similar after awhile.
Would play again for sure.
Good condition
need to know how to work the ball. Good layout. Cousre is tight off the tee. Can be challenging if you take it for granted. I will definitely put this course on my list.
Awesome Greens!
Very challenging but fun course to play, I play the Golfweek Amateur tour on courses all over the state, these are some of the finest greens in the state and the fairways are in excellent shape!
WOW!!!
Fantastic!!! I have lived in Central Fl. for 3 years and these greens are in the top three. Only Ritz-Carlton around PNC in December better.
Very friendly staff, interesting layout with plush fairways, and a nice grill with great members.
It was cart path only, but that was a misdemeanor as compared to the overall experience. Great job Big Cypress!!!
Excellently Conditioned Course
I loved this place. You cannot get a bad lie in the lush fairways. The ball sits up in the fairways, and there is always a little spongy grass under the ball, leading to my best score of the year.
The greens were also excellent, however, they were
not fully recovered from being aerated. However all greens needs to be aerated, so that's not a negative comment at all. There are some nice forced carries over water that will challenge a lot of players, since some of the carries were even involved in the shorter tees. There are also some HUGE traps to avoid. The only negative I could mention is that the greens were VERY slow, although they rolled true and held incoming shots well.
You will definitely enjoy this course.
The Battle of Big Cypress
It had been several months since I had last played Big Cypress South, and after playing on Saturday I am not sure why. The course was in fantastic shape. The greens rolled with such perfection. I was getting spin on all of my approach shots, which in the summer is pretty tough to do. For the value, you cannot beat it in Lakeland. If you have not played this course, check it out!
Fun to play
This course was fun to play and challenging. One tee was in need of attention. Fans needed on it to circulate the air to help turf stay in good condition. The greens were perfect.
