Plantation Palms Golf Club
About
Plantation Palms Golf Club, designed by David Harman, provides every Tampa golfer with a challenging and rewarding golf experience. The links-style design starts with a welcoming par 5, and then slowly steps up with a mixture of strong par 3s. Just 10 minutes north of Tampa, this course was carved a 400-acre citrus grove that slopes from west to east, providing interesting elevation changes. Water is in play on 17 of 18 holes. Plantation Palms Golf Club has an attractive framing of greens by the use of pine trees, water and large snow-white sand traps. The true-rolling elevated greens have good movement and are a challenge for golfers.

Good vale
We were told by the pro that it's a work in progress and it is. But, the greens were fine and the layout is fantastic. It's a great deal for under &30. I'll be back.
Green very good. Fairways need some work. Rangers try very hard to keep pace going. Nice weather and good deal from Golfnow. Will play again.
Terrible shape
Played the course just after it re opened it wasn't in great shape which is understandable. Waited a couple of months, gave it another chance, maybe in a couple years, no grass, greens have large holes filled with sand.
On the rebound
This course has only been reopened for 3 months, after being closed down for 3 years. The new ownership definitely has it headed in the right direction. Can't wait to play again and see the improvements.
Course in decent condition
The course is in decent condition since it reopened. The booked too many tee times at once and backed up the holes. So the pace of play was really slow. It took 2.5 hours to play 9 holes.
Still needs work
This course reopened after being shut down for about five years. Of course the greens and tees fell apart during that five-year layoff.
The new ownership has a lot of ambitious plans and the layout of the course is good. But the fairways and greens still have a long way to go.
If the course every recovers it will be certainly be above average probably rated good as a course.
Stay in the fairways to appreciate the course
You can tell it is a work in progress but there's great potential. The greens are ridiculously fast and the hazards are well placed. It does lack mature grass off of the fairways and greens which can make for some interesting shots if you hit a bad tee shot.
Getting Better, Not Easier
Ace Golf is doing a great job getting the course in shape after several years of not being used. There is still work to be done, but the greens are in very good condition, and rolling too fast for my skill level. The marshals roaming the course really do try to solve problems, warn about congestion ahead, and move things along. There is a premium on course management. Hitting to the wrong place will cost you.
Improving
Course is continuing to improve after reopening.
Play was slow but there were gaps where a foursome wasn't keeping up with the group ahead. There was a ranger driving around but my observation- I never saw him address the problem. He must do more than make a showing; politely address the issue with the slow groups. Hate slow play, we're all not pros, keep the pace up so everyone can enjoy their round!
First time here
Course is in good shape, especially when considering that it just reopened six months ago. But... for the average golfer hitting from the forward tees, there are many holes that are just not golfer friendly. Even the forward tees make it impossible to clear the hazards. If you want to make it enjoyable to all levels of golfers, the forward tees need to be moved up from where they are. We are out there to play golf and have fun. As it is now, that is not always the case.
Please consider that not all players can hit a long ball.
Plantation Palms
Enjoyed the course but the fact that it just reopened after being closed for several years in needs so tender loving care. Looking forward to playing it next yr .
Great day!
The course is long but a fun layout. The staff, from the starter to the course ranger, went out of their way to make sure we enjoyed our round, The course is coming back nicely and I intend to be a regular here.
The course layout is very good and tight for most golfers who spray the ball with lots of water hazards and no forgiveness around the greens. The course has just reopened about three months ago and has all new greens and are very hard making it difficult for your ball to hold. It will take a year or two for this course to mature.
Not ready for play
Should have stayed. closed another year. Course overloaded so very slow play. Several groups in front of us quit at the turn--i should have.
Slow play
Course is coming back well. Pace of play was awful with waiting on almost every shot.
OK for now
In a couple years it will be awesome. Some of the greens are rock hard and slippery.
Staff
Course is making its way back. Probably one of the best layouts in Tampa IMHO. Greens and t-boxes are in good shape but everything else is a little "raggedy around the edges". Well worth the price though and they freely admit the course is a work in progress since reopening. The staff in the pro shop was void of personality. There was a mix-up in my online reservation through golfnow. They just looked at me with a blank stare even though I showed them the confirmation email I had. I called golfnow to discuss and put them on speakerphone. Golfnow rep was great and resolved things quickly. Guy in pro shop didn't thank the golfnow rep for his time nor apologize to me for inconvenience during/after phone call. I finally thanked the golfnow rep before hanging up. Afterwards, the guy said he was called earlier in the morning by golfnow once golfnow realized there was a problem. But that was it, he never apologized for forgetting or anything!! Other than the lack of professionalism and personality, all others on staff around the course were friendly.
Terrible management.
We were forced to play with another pair against our wishes, then scolded multiple times for playing "slow". When we explained that the pair they paired us with were slow they talked down to us like a bunch of idiots. When we finished the manager came out and scolded us once more for good measure. This was the worst experience I have had at any golf course. There are many better courses in the area in terms of both course and overall experiences.
I couldn't agree more. They have a problem communicating with/through GolfNow and I even got an emailed cancellation from the course the morning I was supposed to play. I called and corrected that, and when I arrived, they still said I had no tee time. Frustrating. Then when we got that worked out, I waited and watched at the tee as they allowed TWO fivesomes in a row to tee off ahead of our foursome. This is not typical of Ace Golf who runs their other courses very well. They better pay more attention to this course's management.
