Situated amongst the foothills of the San Gorgonio and San Jacinto Mountains, Morongo Golf Club at Tukwet Canyon boasts 36 holes of scenic championship golf. The two courses, the Champions and the Legends, are some of the area's most popular. The older Champions Course is host to the PGA Tour Q-School and it is a Nationwide Tour Qualifier. It is such a popular tournament location that it is known as the "home of the Southern California PGA." The Champions is a challenging but playable layout with tight fairways and numerous steep-lipped bunkers strategically placed throughout. There is also thick, treacherous rough that will swallow any errant shots. Also included in your tee time is unlimited use of the practice facilities, which include an all-grass driving range as well as chipping and putting greens.

Decent golf course, but terrible pace of play

This is the first time playing the Champion course at Tukwet Canyon, and my first impression was that it was a really nice golf course. It was somewhat longer than what I'm used to and the course conditions were decent. Greens were a bit fast, but they were green and not brown. The tee box and fairways were in decent condition as well. However, every bunker was filled with water (since it rained all week). But this has nothing to do with the course itself as you can't control the weather. So if a ball lands in the bunker, you just need to fish it out with the rake, and play the ball behind it. But the only reason for the 3 out of 5 stars has 100% to do with the pace of play. I booked a Sunday afternoon tee time and I understood that based on the layout and being a weekend the pace may be a bit slower than normal. I spoke to the marshall at the first tee and he even warned me that typically play is slow on this golf course. I am used to a 4 to 4.5 hour round so I was expecting somewhere in the ballpark of 4.5 to 5 hours. After playing the front 9 I could not believe that 3 hours and 15 minutes had already passed! This is just insane and have never played a round this long before in my life. We were on pace for a 6 hour, 30 minute round!! There was no marshall on the course trying to speed up play, so once you teed off on #1 you were essentially on your own. So if you don't mind sitting around at every hole, then I would recommend playing this course since it is a nice layout with some challenging holes. But if your time is valuable to you, then I would either skip or play a really early round before the crowds come in (*By the way, by the time I hit the 5 hour, 30 minute mark, I called it quits. We just wrapped up #15 and was just done waiting at that time. I would have really liked to play the last 3 holes, but it wasn't really worth the additional hour wait. You lose your rhythm when you have to wait after every shot).

Too tough

I assume windy conditions are the norm but this factor combined with green severities made it impossible to not 3 putt consistently. Very well maintained but severity took some fun out of a nice day

Course in rough shape.

Course is not worth what they charge to pay.

Tee boxes and fairways are in rough shape

compared to other courses I’ve played. Staff was not that friendly.

Poor pace management

Tee time was 1:01 I got to the starter at 12:58 and he let 3, 4 man groups jump ahead of me before I got there. I didn’t get to the first tee box until 1:30pm they played slow and no one told them they were behind pace. I didn’t even get to the 14th tee before sun down. So it was not worth the money.

What Happened?

The Champions course was recommended to me a few years ago with rave reviews. Finally got to play and was soooooo disappointed. Condition of tees, some fairways, rough, and structures like bridges and creek beds was not good at all. Pace of play was terrible. Waited almost ever tee shot and approach shot. Over 5 hours to play a course in good condition I could take, but this was brutal. Don't come here if you want to enjoy a fun round of golf on a beautifully manicured course.

Course condition

The course was in poor condition. The tee boxes were poor and the traps were unplayable. 10 years ago the course was in great shape and has a very interesting layout

Poor course conditions

I would not recommend this course for several reasons. The fairways are in poor conditions with many bare spots and inconsistent growth lengths of grass. The bunkers are in terrible shape. All were filled with at least 6 inches of water from recent rain, so their drainage is terrible. For $75, this is a very poor choice.

Excellent course

First time playing This course and absolutely loved it. The course is beautiful and well kept. We felt rushed. Had a slow group in front of us in a group behind us that was trying to rush us. Even ended up hitting a guy in our group in the foot with one of their drives. Picked up their ball and threw it into the water. Other than that, had a great experience at this course. Staff was very friendly.

Restaurant and Bar

Morongo Golf Club boasts on their Website the following.

There's also a great dining facility, open every day for breakfast and lunch until 4 p.m. There are plenty of big screens to watch your favorite sports teams as you enjoy a menu of appetizers, entrees, draft beers and cocktails.

It's only open Friday thru Sunday. The rest of the time its closed and caters to the Tribe nightly. There would be plenty of business for the Restaurant and the Bar to STAY open, I don't know why they won't open it for the Golfing community throughout the week. They need to re-open the facilities to the public, we would love to go there weekly for dinner and a drink.

Could use some work

For the amount they charged to course was in poor shape, lots of brown thick grass.

Greens could have used some work but were in better shape, that the rest
