Morongo Golf Club at Tukwet Canyon - Champions Course

About
Situated amongst the foothills of the San Gorgonio and San Jacinto Mountains, Morongo Golf Club at Tukwet Canyon boasts 36 holes of scenic championship golf. The two courses, the Champions and the Legends, are some of the area's most popular. The older Champions Course is host to the PGA Tour Q-School and it is a Nationwide Tour Qualifier. It is such a popular tournament location that it is known as the "home of the Southern California PGA." The Champions is a challenging but playable layout with tight fairways and numerous steep-lipped bunkers strategically placed throughout. There is also thick, treacherous rough that will swallow any errant shots. Also included in your tee time is unlimited use of the practice facilities, which include an all-grass driving range as well as chipping and putting greens.

Fast greens
10.5 on stimp.meter and soft for holding approachs, a real treat. Too bad like many municipal courses the local players don't repair their ball marks...
Much better price than PalmSprings area courses.
Great course. Pace was a bit slow 5 hrs but it was due to jjuniors practicing for a tournament. Not a big fesl it was nice weather. Definitely going
Pace of Play and Sandtraps
The pace of play was the worst I’ve experienced in the valley in a long time. We have played this course a number of times and never like this. Two groups behind us quit. The first 9 holes was 2.5 hours. We elected to play the front 9 again because we were not prepared to play a 5 plus hour round. So we did t get to play the back 9. Everyone knew where the problem was on the course but there was no marshall to fix it.
In addition the sandtraps were like hitting out of concrete. No good. We won’t be playing there again this year even though we got a good price.
We spoke to one of the course employees and he told us people who work there are not prepared to fix the pace of play. their attitude is that people have paid to play so we need to let them. Wrong answer. I have many other courses to pick from and i will if this is the attitude. Not sure when or if I’ll be back
Course is in good shape
This is a very challenging gong course- but the combination tees make it very playable.
The bunkers all seem to be dirt now- with lots of small rocks- wish they would do sand !!
Decent Practice Round
Nice layout with some fun/challenging holes. Greens were quicker than expected and fairways were rough and bare in some places. Some tee boxes are in need of major reseeding. Overall you are getting what you pay for.
A long Day
This course could be really great but it was poorly manicured and in rough condition. It was quite cold and wet but perhaps it was due to other circumstances. We had 3 groups in front of us that were together and extremely slow so we were about 50 minutes behind the recommended finish time. There appears to be no Marshall. The inside shop staff were great. I don't think we will go back as it's more than an hour drive from Palm Desert.
Slow, slow, slow
Front 9 of Champions took 3+ hours. Marshall’s answer was “they’re busy, it is what it is.” No compensation offered, continued on back 9.
Enough said
For the money
Golf course maintenance is very much lacking. Driving range is nothing more than a gopher area and grass is very thin. There are several holes that can't be played the way they are designed as the penalty areas are so over grown they can't be carried by the average player. The rough is so over grown it sometimes takes a blood hound to find a ball 3 yards off of fairway. This is the second time played since covid and the same issues. I will not play here again.
Not as it should
Paid $65..worth the $$ but course was not in decent shape besides the greens...boxes were mush, a lot of GUR and over watered on every hole.
I love this course first of all the weather is fantastic and the course is fun and green
Switch to Legends course from Champions
Upon arrival we were informed by pro shop that Tee off/Golfnow made a mistake for our Champions course booking as there is an tournament on this course. pro shop said TeeOff/Golfnow supposed to notify us, but they never did.
We were told to play the back 9 of Legends twice as front 9 only has first 6 holes available due to some mud slide issue. We had to drive about 15-20 minutes to hole #10, and the condition is not as good as before or the Champions.
Really disappointed as we were not notified by TeeOff/Golfnow or the golf course. Better communication is needed.
