The Tribute Golf Club - Old Course

About
A Scottish-themed, links-style track that plays along the shores of Lake Lewisville, The Tribute one-ups the Tour 18 approach of modeling the world’s finest golf holes. Patterned his design after the revered holes of St. Andrews, Troon, Prestwick, etc., Tripp Davis created an immaculate track that rolls over terrain strikingly similar to the dunes and grasses over the Atlantic.
From the tips the course plays to a par 72 7,002 yards, but its most strikingly entertaining feature is its playability from the forward tees. In total, four sets of tees are available to even things out for the high handicappers.
St. Andrews is well represented on the first and last holes at The Tribute, where they offer the world’s largest fairway as a great way to start and finish your round.
Other notes: Don’t forget to inquire about the club’s seven guest rooms and available stay-and -play packages. The facility has hopes of opening another 18 and an adjoining hotel sometime in the near future.
Getting there : From 75 Expressway, take Hwy. 121 west to 423 (main street of The Colony). Turn right (north) to Boyd Road. Turn left, then drive 2.5 miles to the clubhouse.

Terrible public relations
I played this course with my son recently this was the second time we had played the tribute. He was advised at check-in that he needed to have a collared shirt he was told there were some out in the lobby at half price.
I had a professional Ping sweater/jacket that he was able to wear which the starting Marshall said was fine.
But the desk staff made a point to call the starting Marshall and insure that the people for our tee time all had collared shirts. I believe the desk staff could have handled this matter much more professionally without making us feel like we were commoners. I will never go to this course again or recommend it to anyone.
The other two gentlemen in our foursome who we did not know before this time we're also insulted and indicated so to us by this staff attitude.
They indicated they would not come back to golf there again.
A few new changes
The pro shop and the bar have been switched. Therefore, the bar area is much larger as well as the pro shop. If you need anything from the pro shop they've got you covered. Free breakfast tacos at check in too. The front nine greens were a little bad as they appeared to be rough and uneven with multiple types of grass growing. The practice area needed some more attention, but the back nine greens were what I have come accustomed to knowing and expecting from this course. Overall, I feel that for a resort course I should have a much better playing experience on the greens. The staff were very friendly and helpful.
bad greens
as noted before most of the greens were really bad. had a 7 ft birdie putt ...jumped 4 ins to the left right off the face.
Overbooked waited 45 minutes past tee time. Green's were really bad for the $$$ charged. Not really impressed.
Abismal Staff
Double booked tee time and took no actions to correct their mistake. Will never go back and would discourage anyone from playing at the Tribute. Much better options in surounding area.
Awesome course
Great conditions, greens a little beat up on the par 3, but very firm and fast. Hard to check a ball. Fairways are great, will play again
WHAT ARE YOU THINKING?
How do you not have any Marshall's on the course on a Saturday?? No one likes to play a 5 hour and 45 minute round when you tee off at 11:42 a.m.
The group in front of us skipped a hole to get ahead of bunch of drunk, loud, obnoxious, and rude foursome. These individuals went to each guys ball and watched him hit his shot. Depending on the shot, you would hear the F-Bomb, G-D, S..t, and numerous other curse words.
In addition to acting like they were at a UFC 205 fight, they also decided to play their music so loud that before we caught up behind them we could hear the music from the tee box when they were on the green.
The worst part of the round, we called the clubhouse for over an hour to no avail. No one even picked up the automated telephone system. After the round, the kid that was left in charge said he was sorry but could not authorize a refund or an reduced rate round in the future. Talk about customer service.
As such, I will not play at this course again!
Excellent Course
This course is always great. You get a real feel for the way they play in Europe.
Wide open fairways
Greens were not in the Best of shape right now. .. very bumpy and definitely needed to be sanded and cut down. Not as smooth as normal. But I have confidence in this facility because they are top notch. Fairways are in great shape.
Unbelievable Course
This was the first time I have played The Tribute. We got a great price on 18 holes for two.
The club house was great, the staff went out of there way to help and give advice, since it was our first time.
The greens and fairway were beyond what I expected, especially in mid July in Texas.
The only bad thing was the pace of play. But it was the weekend.
I will definitely go back and recommend this course.
TERRIBLE GREENS
I phoned the pro shop and asked about the course and greens condition BEFORE I BOOKED. I was told GREAT SHAPE! This was absolutely false. The bent greens were not mowed, they were super slow and sandy. The greens rolled like fringe...Their reasoning for this was summertime and bent grass needs to be kept longer to live...that's fine, but don't lie to get me to pay to play this condition, it was a waste of a round.....I could have played somewhere else for much less $ and better greens...
The Tribute.
Was able to play the tribute course for a great price through Golf Now. Was a great time. You have to play The Tribute. Truly a great golf experience.
Great course but, the greens need some T.L.C.
The course's clubhouse, practice facility, fairways, bunkers, water hazards and restaurant where everything I was hoping they would be. The greens on the other hand are very slow, and are patchy. Unfortunately, because of the greens I can not say the course is worth the $109.00. I am hoping that the cooler weather this fall/winter will help them. I would love to play this course again when the greens are in the same great condition as the rest of the course.
Challenges at The Tribute
This club seems to be having some difficulties. Most importantly, they have some very sketchy greens - by far the worst I've seen them. It's tough to keep those bent greens nice in Texas in August, especially at a course that gets a lot of play, and they were hand watering them, but maybe it's time to tear them up and go to Bermuda. The course seemed a bit under-staffed, like the halfway house was not open, and the guy who cleans clubs after the round was not there. (But the staff who were there were very nice.) Some of the facilities are looking tired. Who decided to hand paint the "To 10th Tee" sign on the halfway house? It looks like an "outhouse" sign. And if you're going to have an Old Course Shed on 17 reminiscent of the Old Course Hotel on the Road Hole at St. Andrews, maybe it shouldn't look like a ramshackle pig sty. Come on, guys: at $100 per round, don't you think you can do a bit better?
Far short of potential
I love this course and will be back at some point - however am compelled to write my first review following my most recent disappointing experience here.
1. Greens have declined to the point of being ludicrous. The greens more closely resemble the surface of the moon rather than a proper putting surface due to dozens and dozens of deep, unrepaired ball marks on each green.
2. Groundskeeping: Do not place huge fans directly in front of the pin, in the middle of the approach angle on a Par 3.
3. The kitchen/bar needs serious attention. Health grade fell from a 97 to an 80 in last 12 months. The draft beers come with a nasty additional flavor of unknown origin - tastes like soap - I suspect the lines or tap need to be properly cleaned. A basic turkey club and hot wings took 30 minutes to deliver. Staff is generally friendly. I suggest drinking from bottles and eating elsewhere.
This is a great course that appears to be slipping to a shameful state - would be worth the $100 green fee if properly managed. Currently, it's not worth paying half of that.
wonderfull experience
loved the layout with the explanation of each hole. the views were really good. greens were heavy watered due to the hot texas sun, rolling slow. fairways were excellent as was the rough and bunkers. would love to play enough times to know the layout. definately worth the drive. our rounds were bought with rewards points, but definately worth the going rate.
Fun layout; greens a bit slow
First, the layout is one of the better ones in the DFW area - fun and somewhat forgiving. Staff was very friendly. Tee to green course is in excellent shape. The greens though, while in good shape, were a bit banged-up from old ball marks and spots of invading foreign grasses - but they did have someone of there the day I played carefully removing the spots of invading grass so they are working on it. Always a fun experience. Not cheap and maybe just a tad overpriced. All-in-all a great course to play and one I make sure I get to at least a couple of times a year.
Bad greens this summer
The fairways are greener, faster, and have less poa annua than the greens. The greens are slower than most munis. Disappointed in the the greens isn't saying enough. Everything is is great. Expect more from this place. Glad I got a good golfnow deal otherwise would have considered this a total bust.

I just wanted to update my earlier comment.
I received a call from Chip Graham, the Club pro today expressing his apology's for our level of service provided on Monday.
One would expect such a call from a reputable Club and I was pleasantly satisfied that Chip understood the importance of customer satisfaction and in fact considered it a top requirement for his staff to provide.
I understand that customer satisfaction is a two way street and that some customers can be a pain in the back side to put it politely. I don't believe we were such so I truely appreciate Chips apology and invitation to give them another chance which I will do on our next visit to the area. Thanks Chip for treating us with respect and understanding.
