The Trails of Frisco Golf Club
About
The Trails of Frisco golf course is one of Jeff Brauer’s most unique designs -- primarily because it doesn’t fit the mold of his other courses. Brauer, who’s known for his open, straight-forward courses, designed this one to tip out to a par 71, 6,900 yards, loaded it with hidden creeks, scenic wetlands, extensive bunkering, and massive greens. In fact, first-timers will be confused here. They’ll face intimidating views off the tee that leave doubt as to the problems that loom ahead, and it is definitely possible to lose all of your balls off the tee if you’re struggling.
The golf course is just flat-out challenging, especially on the front nine. No. 1 opens up with a creek on the left that cuts in front of the green and generally makes its presence known on every shot. The play here is to stay right and stay away from its subtle presence on the left side. The creek comes into play on Nos. 2, 4, 5, and even No. 9, where it chutes from the fairway in front of the green and surrounds the green of this challenging par 4.
All told, water and waste areas are in play on 16 of 18 holes (including every par 3), and the creeks are enhanced by visible lakes and ponds on the back side, even though it is considered a bit easier than the front.

Bad management
After a bunch of rain the day before, the course was in awful shape. On top of that the greens were just aerated. Should have been a discounted round, since the fairways were barely playable and the greens were barely playable. But they charged $99+tax. Range closed as well should be a factor. ON TOP OF ALL THAT, it was super hot, the cart girls had no water or Gatorade…. Completely out. The water stations didn’t have any water jugs. Just had to survive while playing crappy muni type conditions. I paid for 8 golfers that came in out of town to play so salt to the wound.
Horrible
Somehow I think every time I come back it’s going to be better but nope. Range is a piece of crap, half of the flags are destroyed and it’s not a very visual pleasure to see gallons of water stored onto it either. Not to mention the mats are harder than concrete. And you know I could live with that more than half the time if the course was good, but nope. This courses tee boxes might be some of the worse I’ve ever seen, not taken care of at all and the greens are a crap show. There is always trash or something wrong with the cart path, the bridges must be 20 years old at this point and there is just a sheet of metal fixing the cart path in some areas. All of this would be once again fixed if you didn’t have to pay $100 for a weekend morning tee time, like what the heck are they thinking. This piece of junk for $100 save your money, time, and dignity and book at a different course for the love of everything that is good and holy
Great course. Sneaky challenge.
The Trails of Frisco has officially become my favorite place to lose golf balls.
This course on any given day will make you rethink your game. I’m always up for a challenge and the trails delivers every time.
Solid prices on weekdays. Always in great condition and a friendly staff.
Driving range could use some work, as I am not a fan of the turf mats with a slab of concrete underneath.
Overall, I think the trails is a hidden gem. Every round leaves me questioning my swing, my club selection, and most of the time my sanity—but somehow I can’t wait to come back.
Solid DFW Course
Course is a good value for the money. Staff are friendly and pace of play was very good. Got confused a few times driving to the next hole but figured it out. Fairways and greens were in great shape. Need to layup here and there which makes things interesting. Greens rolled true. Plenty of water to drink on the tee boxes which was very nice.
Amazing Shale
Played at 7 AM on Sunday. Course could not have been in better shape from the tea box to the fairways to greens. All of the grass was in pristine condition. Putts rolled true, bunkers had good sand. Just had a really great day and highly recommend this course to anyone looking for an amazing golf course in the Frisco area.
Good Course
Played the back 9 and found it in good shape and a bit challenging in a few areas. Greens were in good shape as were the fairways albeit a bit hard. All in all an enjoyable round.
DO NOT BELIEVE GOOD REVIEWS!
Owners have not taken good care of this course, greens full of weeds, no sand in traps, no grass on tee boxes, thin grass in fairways. Range balls are found balls that they stamp with a “practice” stamp. Low class operation that reflects the business sense of the ownership and management. This used to be a gem, it’s such a shame what has happened to it. Not worth 1/2 of what they charge. BEWARE!
Golf Day
Great staff,Good senior rate, the fairways are in great shape with recent rains. Sand traps are well maintained. Greens were rolling true. When I made the turn I picked up a hotdog. One thing missing was there is no ball wash. Overall a great course, well be back soon.
This course was in great shape.
We haven’t played the course in a long time but it was challenging and in really good shape. We will be playing it again soon. Only downside was we couldn’t hit our drivers off the range.
Forgotten Course
The owners of the course have let it slip into disrepair. Greens were terrible. Trash on the fairways. Broken cart path bridges and broken path concrete. Just terrible.
Great Experience
Golf course was in great condition. The staff was friendly and took care of our needs.
Rough
Driving range- poor
Tee boxes - poor
Fairways - ok
Greens- poor
