The Trails of Frisco Golf Club
About
The Trails of Frisco golf course is one of Jeff Brauer’s most unique designs -- primarily because it doesn’t fit the mold of his other courses. Brauer, who’s known for his open, straight-forward courses, designed this one to tip out to a par 71, 6,900 yards, loaded it with hidden creeks, scenic wetlands, extensive bunkering, and massive greens. In fact, first-timers will be confused here. They’ll face intimidating views off the tee that leave doubt as to the problems that loom ahead, and it is definitely possible to lose all of your balls off the tee if you’re struggling.
The golf course is just flat-out challenging, especially on the front nine. No. 1 opens up with a creek on the left that cuts in front of the green and generally makes its presence known on every shot. The play here is to stay right and stay away from its subtle presence on the left side. The creek comes into play on Nos. 2, 4, 5, and even No. 9, where it chutes from the fairway in front of the green and surrounds the green of this challenging par 4.
All told, water and waste areas are in play on 16 of 18 holes (including every par 3), and the creeks are enhanced by visible lakes and ponds on the back side, even though it is considered a bit easier than the front.

Golf Day
Great staff,Good senior rate, the fairways are in great shape with recent rains. Sand traps are well maintained. Greens were rolling true. When I made the turn I picked up a hotdog. One thing missing was there is no ball wash. Overall a great course, well be back soon.
This course was in great shape.
We haven’t played the course in a long time but it was challenging and in really good shape. We will be playing it again soon. Only downside was we couldn’t hit our drivers off the range.
Forgotten Course
The owners of the course have let it slip into disrepair. Greens were terrible. Trash on the fairways. Broken cart path bridges and broken path concrete. Just terrible.
Great Experience
Golf course was in great condition. The staff was friendly and took care of our needs.
Rough
Driving range- poor
Tee boxes - poor
Fairways - ok
Greens- poor
Good course but greens were tough
The course was in good shape. We teed off 7:27 am so it was not crowded so the pace of play was excellent. The greens were pretty rough though. It looked like they have been areated and that along with all of the unrepaired ball marks. Your ball would bounce a lot on putts. Overall it was a good round.
Off season
Very nice layout, greens were pretty bare around the holes like they hadn’t been rotated lately. There was no water or ball washers anywhere. For the price $99. It should have been better all around.
Be prepared
The course layout is challenging enough that I enjoy playing it. If it’s a good day I lose a few golf balls, if it’s a bad day I lose a lot. Overall I enjoy playing here, but I have some complaints as well. The rates for tee times on weekends is too high in my opinion for the quality of the grounds and course conditions. Yes, the layout is good, but the driving range is terrible. The chipping area is truly shocking. disrepair is a compliment, most tee boxes are being redone but those that haven’t been are not great, and the greens are also in mixed condition. Some play great and others are filled with splotches of dirt and sand or chunks of grass growing in that affects the roll.
Overall, if you are ok dropping $100 for a harder course that isn’t in great shape, you’ll be ok. If not, there’s better courses on the McKinney/Plano area for similar or better prices. I will keep playing here though bc it’s close and I also do enjoy the challenge, but I wish they’d improve the grounds bc they need some TLC
Any good review below don’t listsn
For $90 you expect good greens. These greens are AWFUL. Dry, sandy, filled with poa. You don’t know which way your ball will roll on the green.
The course is filled with trash.
Practice areas are HORRIBLE.
How can this course charge that amount? They should be ashamed of themselves. Honestly. Don’t listen to any good review about this course, it’s a darn lie.
Beautiful course
This place is looking better and better as the season opens! Very peaceful, staff is excellent, course is well maintained, and it’s a challenging fun course to play!
Nice course
Enjoyable course.
I wish they printed the map of the course at the back of the scorecard so it'd be easier to figure out where you're going.
bad shape
Course is in really bad shape greens are mostly dirt. big sections of dirt all over the course. fairways hard as a rock. Needs alot of work. Was not worth the money.
Good course for the value
Good course that was in great shape. Greens are lightning fast. Carts do not have GPS, a rangefinder is helpful. Also, except for boulders marking 150 yards, no layout on scorecard. Was surprised several times by creeks and high grassy areas. Would have scored better if I had this information.
Great golf course
Always a great course to play. Pace of play wasn’t the best on the front 9 as there were toddlers playing and parents not respecting others experience but other than that the course was in good shape and I had a great time on the back 9 as usual! The pace sped up tremendously. Staff is always nice and they even remembered me by name as I play here frequently! Definitely a challenging course but fun!
if you stop playing there they may actually have to do something about their course and fix it up. dont reward a lazy golf course who cant even get their chipping area or driving range in check. the price is a complete joke.
