The Tribute Golf Club - Old Course
About
A Scottish-themed, links-style track that plays along the shores of Lake Lewisville, The Tribute one-ups the Tour 18 approach of modeling the world’s finest golf holes. Patterned his design after the revered holes of St. Andrews, Troon, Prestwick, etc., Tripp Davis created an immaculate track that rolls over terrain strikingly similar to the dunes and grasses over the Atlantic.
From the tips the course plays to a par 72 7,002 yards, but its most strikingly entertaining feature is its playability from the forward tees. In total, four sets of tees are available to even things out for the high handicappers.
St. Andrews is well represented on the first and last holes at The Tribute, where they offer the world’s largest fairway as a great way to start and finish your round.
Other notes: Don’t forget to inquire about the club’s seven guest rooms and available stay-and -play packages. The facility has hopes of opening another 18 and an adjoining hotel sometime in the near future.
Getting there : From 75 Expressway, take Hwy. 121 west to 423 (main street of The Colony). Turn right (north) to Boyd Road. Turn left, then drive 2.5 miles to the clubhouse.

Beautiful Links style course
Facility and fairways in top notch shape. The greens were slow and needed a cut. It was a Thursday day and there were workers punching the first cut of greens and tee boxes as we were playing, which left to a lot of dirt laying around. Even though it's a links style course, lots of hazards and can definitely lose balls easily. Well maintained course/facility. No GPS or ball/club cleaners on carts. For $90 green fees, that's a must!
Greens terrible
From tee to fairway excellent
Greens were horrible
Played early but greens looked like late afternoon condition, appeared they didn't roll the greens
Divots marks everywhere
A course wanting to be high end but evidently not the people playing it
It is sad that players can't fix their divots on the greens or that the course maintenance not willing to fix themselves.
Great condition!!
Course was lush and in perfect condition. Fairways were amazing and the greens were nice despite the fact that they are Bentgrass and its 1000 degrees outside. If the idiots that they let play out there would stop dragging their feet on the greens and fix their ball marks it would be amazing.
Greens terrible
Greens were spiked, but like pressed with a waffle iron
what a layout
this was an amazing track! it was wet & cart path only (6.5 inches of rain in the previous 5 days), but what a great time.
Various rates
Wonderful idea and layout. Tee boxes answered history of every hole----nice touch. I booked through militaryteetime.com, playing partners booked through golf now and got a much better deal. Still a good value, but left me scratching my head. Worth the drive out and play!
DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY OR TIME
Where to begin?
5.5 hour round of golf? One marshal? One cart girl? No water in the jugs on the course? Once I did get a marshal, I was berated for "interrupting him" while he tried to explain that he could do NOTHING? ("WELL IF YOU'D LET ME TALK FOR A SECOND, etc...")
The bartender inside complaining about how the bar was changing locations, and what a terrible idea that was, as he took 5 minutes to pour and ring up 2 diet cokes? The second time we had to go inside at the turn to get food/drink (remember no cart girl to be found) the same bartender was counting out the register while we waited. And waited. AND WAITED for another employee to come in and serve us, only to be told we couldn't be rung up because he couldn't interrupt counting the money while 6 golfers ultimately lined up behind us? The fact that, as a result of the 20 minute wait in the bar, that we had to explain to the group that was behind us that we had not QUIT, and were, in fact, playing the back nine?
Did I mention 5.5 hours? This was the first time I came back to this course after the redo of the bunkers. I brought my best friend from high school for his birthday from out of town. Needless to say, I was embarrassed to death after talking this place up. For $100 tee times, the experience should be STELLAR. It was, however, absolutely ATROCIOUS. The level of service I would expect for a $20 round at the lowest tier public course available.
fantastic scenery and favorable conditions
Greens were slow. That was it - my only complaint. other than that, course was in excellent shape, especially given all the rain recently. Tee boxes and fairways were perfect. Rough was about what you would expect for a links course imitation. Could have been shorter in spots which would have helped speed up play, but overall course was fantastic. Cart girl was a little on the surly side and didn't really warm up. Not sure what her problem was, but at least she was there about every 6 holes. Marshal did a great job asking us to speed up play. Back to the rough issue - my group needed to quit hitting into the rough, but we were still done in 4 1/2 hours, which is good for any weekend round.
Enjoyed this course
Took my son here for his birthday. Staff was friendly and welcoming. Course was being aerated so conditions not ideal for putting. Pace of play was slow requiring waiting or majority of shots. We did get a great deal on Golf Now. The round was enjoyable and we'll come back again if we can find a similar deal.
Wind = tough
Have played here several times; this weekend was 20+ mph which is probably how the course was designed to play - definitely made it more challenging. greens in good shape and roll true. good course and challenge
Full Disclosure
GolfNow failed to make note that only 9 holes were open. This will probably be the case for a while.
The back 9 was closed for 2 days for bridge repairs.
All 18 Holes are open now.
Great
The course is in good winter condition. They have done an excellent job getting the course back after the floods. Greens were true, fairways were in good shape, and although some of the bunkers were a little fluffy, they were excellent as well. Overall a great experience.
Great time...immediately recognize ST Andrews
This is probably my new favorite course in DFW. I would play here even if it took six hours. Great way to experience UK golf without the cost. Great course even in 30 degree weather. Ill be back!
Excellent for Vacationer
The course was in great shape and set up for a challenging, fun round. The green speeds were excellent and bunkers had the perfect amount of sand. This was one of the better replica courses that exhibited beautiful scenery and fantastic recreations of the greatest holes in Scotland. The Tribute provided everything I look for in a good day of golf! I'm a student at the University of Florida, visiting my parents for the holidays. I will make sure The Tribute is a frequent destination when I come to visit in the future!
Nostalgic Venue
The venue really takes a piece of the British Open venues and places it in the shores of local Lake Lewisville. From the pro shop and inn to the restaurant, there is a genuine feel of the old country and the sport its connected to. The course has some beautiful views and the landscaping is true to the links style designs of their origin. Challenging course, but rewarding if right strategy is put in play. Highly recommend the experience to anyone.
love the links type course
goof course but it was cart paths only and it is too for an older person to walk.
Great Venue ... Pretty Slow Pace.
Been playing this course for many years and have had a few company events here. Love the venue and the course. Great recovery after all the flooding. When a course gets slow (i.e. Three foursomes on the tee box), you've got to have a Marshall around. Unfortunately, other than the first tee, we did not see one. Decided to quit after 13 holes. Some sort of rain check would have been a nice gesture.
tribute
Good course in good condition would play it again; Victoria's bloody marys are excellent!
JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort & Spa Stay & Play Package
Horseshoe Bay Resort Stay & Play Package
Mystic Creek Experience Stay & Play Package
The course has to do that to allow the green to breathe, you might say. Always call before you play to see if they are aerating. I've ran into that before but now always call. You can usually get the green fee lowered a lot if you still play.
