Talega Golf Club is one of southern California's treasures, offering a challenging Fred Couples layout that sits above the "Spanish Village by the Sea." The course winds through canyons and valleys offering scenic views of the surrounding countryside throughout. The diverse layout will test your shot-making skills and there are also several interesting risk-reward opportunities including two reachable par 4s that will please long hitters. There is an abundance of bunkers coming into play, especially along the fairways, and golfers will be faced with the occasional blind shot. The greens are extremely quick and not a single one is flat. Nearly every green has multiple tiers. Water hazards also come into play on a few holes. One of Talega's most memorable holes is the monstrous 13th. This par 5 requires a carry over not just one but two ravines.

Talega is a Fun Course

I played Talega while on vacation however I have played it before. The course was in very good condition. The layout is pretty cool, but it helps to play with a local that knows the course and targets to aim off the tees. We finished the round in 4 hr and 15 mins. Each time I have played Talega it has been a fun experience.

Challenging and Overpriced

I'd like to start by saying I'd never play this course for full price. The condition of the course, particularly some of the greens, were fine at best and needed work at worst.

Cost aside, this is a challenging course with a lot of risk/reward which can make it both fun and frustrating when you end up in trouble. The front is super scoreable and the back is tight.

Pace on the greens was good but pins were often placed on spines which made some reads quite tough.

Give it a go if you live nearby and can snag a decent rate

Not a great course

Expected there would be a cart for on course refreshments but there was none. Would have been nice to have been told before we started. Condition of course was very dry with burned out areas but greens were in good shape. Never a fan of courses with a hole where you have no idea where to hit. Fairway completely hidden from t box. Did have a red flag in the distance as an aiming point. No map of hole on cart gps screen and no picture of layout of course on scorecard. Just a stupid hole all around. Golf is expensive but $100 for this course is excessive

Such potential

The layout here is really cool and it could be one of the best courses in the area if they just gave it a little more love. Overall good conditions, a few tee boxes with rough length grass for some reason. We couldn’t get anything at the turn because a wedding was going on. Maybe 1 water fountain on the entire course. Staff was nice and pace was very solid. Would come back.

Golf cart #9 is horrible, don't drive it

After the 10th hole our golf cart would just inadvertently lock the brakes throwing us forward, skidding the car then not moving for another minute. Only to do it again over & over just when you'd think it was fine. Happened about 25 times when you'd least expect it. Had a two some on us so didn't want to hold up pace of play To call for help. Was with Wifey for her birthday so it really ruined our golf day. Told the guy at cart return not to let anybody else in the cart, yet he didn't seem to care, just said 'oh..

Very nice but not perfect.

Foggy in the morning, but burned off around 10 am. Not too crowded, but was busy. Turf in pretty good shape. Greens were wet and slow all day. You really had to give the ball a good rap to get it to roll.

There's a few blindish drives, challenging to the first timers there. One hole you drive over a tree line toward a red flag in the distance. That's silly, they should trim those trees enough so you can have an idea what to do.

Driving range and practice facility is not on the same property and it doesn't open until nine am. No way to hit a bucket to warm up if you have a morning tee time. Snack bar not open until nine, and there is no roving bar cart. No one answered the snack bar phone.

Food was good, had a delicious bloody mary and a great breakfast burrito. Easy parking, friendly staff. No ball washers on the course. GPS is pretty antiquated, but was on each cart.

I'd go again.

Could be Better

Driving Range DOES NOT OPEN until 9am! That SUCKS NO BAR or Restaurant so you can’t get an after round drink or food. Half way house has terrible service snd small selection.

Pretty Good

Course was in better condition than I expected. First fairway had some big chunks of sod missing but otherwise pretty good shape.
