Talega Golf Club
About
Talega Golf Club is one of southern California's treasures, offering a challenging Fred Couples layout that sits above the "Spanish Village by the Sea." The course winds through canyons and valleys offering scenic views of the surrounding countryside throughout. The diverse layout will test your shot-making skills and there are also several interesting risk-reward opportunities including two reachable par 4s that will please long hitters. There is an abundance of bunkers coming into play, especially along the fairways, and golfers will be faced with the occasional blind shot. The greens are extremely quick and not a single one is flat. Nearly every green has multiple tiers. Water hazards also come into play on a few holes. One of Talega's most memorable holes is the monstrous 13th. This par 5 requires a carry over not just one but two ravines.

Snooty check in person at counter
Treated second class booking thru GolfNow. Told to check in only 10 minutes before tee time even though playing as a single (no other players) by myself for my tee time (2 tee times ahead with openings to join up). I told the check in person at counter I’d rather play with someone but he wouldn’t have it! There was no harm in that request and would speed up play too. Will not be back and way over priced for the value. Greens inconsistent and fairways burnt. Tee boxes need work. Not a very good first impression and would not recommend this course!
Sadly slow
This course sadly played super slow for a day that was wide open. We were a group of three women playing behind a foursome of men who had a wide open golf course in front of them for as far as we could see, and they would never let us play through. At one point we had two groups on the tee waiting on them in the middle of the fairway. We called the golf shop and asked them to come out to move things along, but I’m not sure what happened. Love the golf course and the people that work there are very friendly and kind. We’ll play again and just hope that we don’t have that experience. Golf course, Marshall would certainly help.
Fantastic game
We have played this wonderful course many time and still love it. It was so peaceful! The weather was perfect and pace was great, we finished 18 holes in 4 hour 35 minutes,
We will be back soon for sure!
ALWAYS TOP NOTCH
Had a 4pm tee time this June. I've played this course multiple times during different times and seasons and feel that it is always worth it. Although the driving range is separate from the practice green (off of AVE LA PATA less than a mile away), they are both kept in great shape.
The course is challenging and fascinating in design: with holes that include forced carries over water (Holes 5-7 and the Signature 18th), canyons, multiple fairways (see the 13th Par 5 that can play up to almost 630 yards!!), and even forests (see the Par 5 15th, which is the definition of a blind approach), there are no gimmes
With a Slope of 135 and a Course Rating of 73.7 from the tips, it is the 4th toughest public course in Orange County (behind Strawberry Farms, Tijeras Creek, and Pelican Hill's North Course); so bring balls accordingly lol.
The staff is also friendly and accommodating as well. Great experience and a unique challenge in Orange County Golf.
Lots of green grass
Great course with wide fairways . Greens weee in great conditions. Would diffinitely play again.
Beautiful course
Absolutely beautiful! Well maintained. Will definitely be back again
Amazing course! Great views, challenging holes
This is my favorite course in Southern California, that's under $250. The views are spectacular, the holes are challenging, and some are very long. Long so you get to drive and hit your irons. Greens are well groomed. Well paste and challenging and some holes. I highly recommend this course at least once in your lifetime. It's my favorite and I hope to play it more often.
Tell me a Talega
Talega starts with a friendly handshake over the first few holes to comfortably welcome you to the round. The first most challenging shot of the day comes at the Par 3 fifth hole, nearly 200 yards over water to a challenging green complex. The course layout is interesting with five par 3's and five par 5's and your round can be made or broken based on your performance on these holes. Aside from the first par 5 (#2) the others on the course are tricky and take some experience and local knowledge to best navigate. Keeping the ball in play off the tee is key across the entire course and a good score can be achieved if playing from the fairway and avoiding tempting, sucker pins. There was no cart girl during our Sunday morning and the grille was closed, leaving only the halfway house window for takeaway snacks and beverages.
Thirsty
Course is a nice layout, challenging, good greens. Course could use a beverage cart, televisions, & a much better bar & food variety. US Open on & not a TV in site.
Fun course
Played first time with two other first timers… the course conditions are very good, except a few bumpy greens. The layout is fun, but we did have a few holes that we couldn’t figure where to hit tee shots. One of the hole has only a pole in the distance which we assumed was the target. It turned out to be the wrong direction, good tee shot just sent the balls to the woods beyond the pole… I wish the course could have the graphic GPS so that you could figure out where to tee your shot to. Overall it was a fun track and very enjoyable with good pace… we finished in four hours without much waiting… would love to come back again
