Talega Golf Club
About
Talega Golf Club is one of southern California's treasures, offering a challenging Fred Couples layout that sits above the "Spanish Village by the Sea." The course winds through canyons and valleys offering scenic views of the surrounding countryside throughout. The diverse layout will test your shot-making skills and there are also several interesting risk-reward opportunities including two reachable par 4s that will please long hitters. There is an abundance of bunkers coming into play, especially along the fairways, and golfers will be faced with the occasional blind shot. The greens are extremely quick and not a single one is flat. Nearly every green has multiple tiers. Water hazards also come into play on a few holes. One of Talega's most memorable holes is the monstrous 13th. This par 5 requires a carry over not just one but two ravines.

In sad shape!
Unfortunately this great course, located in the perfect spot in the world, has become a joke of the golf world:( Freddie created a decent course, but the condition on this place is a huge mess! For some reason they decided to not overseed!?!? It’s not about the cost… it’s about having some pride in ownership. I played this course when the opened o, about 5 months ago, and then yesterday. Each time ( and my last) it’s sad! I hope some decent company will take over (I don’t care who). Will put this place back into its glory!!!!!
Sad to see a great layout, become a Municipal course!
It’s really not about the money!! This course is in TERRIBLE shape! They obviously saved money and chose not to oversead . This course is Less than municipal shape. Zero care for condition! To bad, because Freddie laid out a decent track. @talegagolf #talegagolf , but they’ve let it fall apart! Don’t waste your money on this goat farm! (
Disappointing
It is too easy to pile on a course given everything… it just wasn’t good. We jumped ahead of a group that was on pace for a 6.5 hour round, but pace of play was still poor. Sort of got 12 holes in and quit. You could, however, see the potential and past glory of this course if you were paying attention.
Course conditions and pricing are not in sync
I have played Talega multiple times over many years. For a course that charges as much as they do I am surprised they are still using GPS systems that were antiquated from the early 2000s and the course is no better for the wear..
I hadn’t played in two years and was expecting much improvements compared to many of the local courses around and yet nothing has changed since the first time I played in the early 2000s
It is a fun track and certainly has some amazing views on some if the holes but disappointed in the status quo of the course.
Nice Day
Had a lovely day. Hardly anyone else on the course on Monday!
Twilight for the Win
We payed $60 bucks to play At 2:10pm and it worked out pretty well. We weren’t able to to play the last few holes because it got dark, but we felt like we got our moneys worth.
The staff was friendly and check in went very smoothly. The golf carts have a screen with built in range finders which was clutch.
While some holes were challenging, overall it wasn’t a pull hair out experience. Nice wide fairways and moderately paced greens. The course itself was gorgeous and in great condition. There was a great locker room to change and the snack bar was open with hotdogs and beers.
I would definitely go back!
Course knowledge is imperative
First time playing here. Course was in good condition, fast greens but rolled true. Pace of play was good, finished in just under 4 hours and only waited on a few holes. If this is your first time playing this course do yourself a favor and play with someone with course knowledge. There are a few holes in particular that if you don't know where to aim you'll find all kinds of trouble. At least two blind tee shots. Nice risk/reward shots. Have fun!
Challenging but user friendly
Nice for time of year and considering socal water restrictions
