Talega Golf Club
About
Talega Golf Club is one of southern California's treasures, offering a challenging Fred Couples layout that sits above the "Spanish Village by the Sea." The course winds through canyons and valleys offering scenic views of the surrounding countryside throughout. The diverse layout will test your shot-making skills and there are also several interesting risk-reward opportunities including two reachable par 4s that will please long hitters. There is an abundance of bunkers coming into play, especially along the fairways, and golfers will be faced with the occasional blind shot. The greens are extremely quick and not a single one is flat. Nearly every green has multiple tiers. Water hazards also come into play on a few holes. One of Talega's most memorable holes is the monstrous 13th. This par 5 requires a carry over not just one but two ravines.

Very playable
Nice layout, challenging and greens are great. Very good value! Thanks
Unimpressed
Nice layout, but definitely not worth the $100 I spent. Greens are in poor condition, fairways are nice though. You can play better courses for $50.

Love this course. Great employees that treat you well. The starter, Carlos is a very good young man polite and very helpful. When I see him there I know there will be no problems
Talega day
Had a fun time.. challenging… pace was slow though… not sure why they started us on hole10…. It was backed up most holes
Talega
Love the employees here. Very polite and helpful. My only complaint is the greens and some bunkers. Greens need a lot of work. Need to be cut tighter for a true roll of the ball. Some bunkers have no sand and are so hard, when your ball lands in it you never know where it will bounce to.

The staff at this course is outstanding. Never had an issue with anyone. The greens do need some work. They need to be cut a little tighter to get a true roll of the ball. Other than that, great course
Looks like the course is closing.
This is the only way I can explain that you can't make a tee time on Talega's booking engine after September 1st. Writing this in the evening of August 30th. Who in their right mind would limit booking to 2ish days in advance.
Makes sense that they are closing.
Maybe they are going to graze sheep?
Arrived at the course and it was a heavy mist, wouldn’t call it a rain. First time at the course so we found out the range was off site. The employee said it opened at nine and provided the address. Get to the range and wait about 15 minutes for the range to open. Nobody ever came. They opened the gates but supposedly there is a guy that shows up to pass out the balls. Get back to the club house and they said they closed it due to the rain. It was barely a mist at that point. The employee could have said the range won’t open if it doesn’t let up.
We start our round (twosome) and the starter said you can go out whenever. Said there were people paired with us but didn’t cate if we started. Got backed up pretty quick. Probably because they don’t care if they send people out at the right times.
While playing the round it seemed like other players didn’t care about the greens. The grass on the green seemed great but there were mud and grass chunks all over some of the greens and marks that looked like the military was doing drills in spikes. Along every fairway there were piles of grass clippings. Looks like the landscaper would just dump all over. Some piles had cart marks going through them.
Course has potential to be great. Needs new management. Not worth $130 per round.
Could be so much better
When you take what could be a very golf course and throw in a bunch of "let's just over water in hopes that things will grow" -- well, the result is a non-enjoyable course... and then throw in the stinky, stagnet water on the "picturesque par 3" -- all of that equals = don't waste your > $100 fees.
Fun layout
Overall good layout, pace of play great. Some blind tee shots which are always fun. Greens are quite slow and course seemed waterlogged. Even in summer but had multiple plugged balls. Would ha e expected fast/better greens for the money.
Great course and perfect weather
We have played this beautiful course many times before, looks like the course condition is not very well today, some greens really need fix.
Other than that, we had great time today.
What happened to this course??
This use to be such a great course but they let it go. Wouldn't come back, it's not worth the money as there are many other options in SoCal.
Overpriced
$100 + I would expect a lot better course conditions. There was also a completely blind tee shot on 15 where we didn’t know where to hit so ask the starter where to hit.
Talega
Lots of improvements taking place. The best staff on any golf course in the area
