About
Talega Golf Club is one of southern California's treasures, offering a challenging Fred Couples layout that sits above the "Spanish Village by the Sea." The course winds through canyons and valleys offering scenic views of the surrounding countryside throughout. The diverse layout will test your shot-making skills and there are also several interesting risk-reward opportunities including two reachable par 4s that will please long hitters. There is an abundance of bunkers coming into play, especially along the fairways, and golfers will be faced with the occasional blind shot. The greens are extremely quick and not a single one is flat. Nearly every green has multiple tiers. Water hazards also come into play on a few holes. One of Talega's most memorable holes is the monstrous 13th. This par 5 requires a carry over not just one but two ravines.

First Impression
Course layout great.
Pace great.
Course tee boxes need help a trim.
Trash all over. Just ride the cart paths. Tee boxes covered with traitor.
Great layout that they’ve let slide
Talega has some of the best hole designs in So OC. Demands quality shots to score. It is sad to see such a wonderful track be so poorly maintained. A good value only if you book through golf now. Otherwise the posted green fees would discourage return.
Great track and great value
First time playing Talega and was not disappointed. Great value and fun track. The fairways were well maintained and greens rolled true. As mentioned by other reviews some bunkers could do with more sand. Back 9 is significantly harder than the front especially if you don’t know the course. We played in 4:30 on a Friday afternoon. Not bad. Staff was really nice and accommodating (I had made a mistake in the booking).

If your playing this for the first time swallow your pride and hit from the whites, believe me you'll have a much better time!
Great course, need to educate players
Everything was great, but hole 15 from the white tees? Who knows where to hit it. My dad probably hit his best drive of the year, nowhere to be found.

It’s my first time playing this course was quite surprised the first portion of the course wraps around and in between new homes very challenging beautiful greens well laid out course second nine is over ravines and very challenging yet beautiful definitely recommend it coming back again
Overall good
Some odd holes on the back but not bad. Pace was good. Conditions were good. Long blind par 4 on the back was odd. I would go again
Bunkers still cement
When this place opened they had white crushed marble in the bunkers. Now, most, not all, of the bunkers you will not leave a footprint or make a divot in them, because they are no different than the cart path you drive on! The greens and fairways are good enough, but this course has gone downhill over the years.
Great Course
Love the course. This round, however, took 5 hours. It was really slow play. There wasn’t a Marshall to move things along.
Plus there was not a drink cart on the course.
But- It is still a great course and I would play there anytime!
Great course/ Unfriendly Staff
My friend and I really enjoyed the course, so much we came back. But I don’t know if I want to anymore. First time I came the cashier must not have been laid the night before. I didn’t let it effect me, maybe he was having a bad morning. Second time, same thing! I wasn’t rude to him but he made sure he was rude to me. May be he has a problem with black folks playing a nice course? Idk, I watched to see if he was nice to others, he was nice to them, totally different person. Maybe I rubbed him the wrong way I guess??
Subpar
I’m happy I was able to get a good deal on today’s round. There is a lot of potential for this course, but honestly, it was disappointing to play this course with such poor upkeep of the greens, fairways and bunkers. I would probably play here again, hopefully not paying full price again, and hopefully the course will be under better condition.
