Talega Golf Club
About
Talega Golf Club is one of southern California's treasures, offering a challenging Fred Couples layout that sits above the "Spanish Village by the Sea." The course winds through canyons and valleys offering scenic views of the surrounding countryside throughout. The diverse layout will test your shot-making skills and there are also several interesting risk-reward opportunities including two reachable par 4s that will please long hitters. There is an abundance of bunkers coming into play, especially along the fairways, and golfers will be faced with the occasional blind shot. The greens are extremely quick and not a single one is flat. Nearly every green has multiple tiers. Water hazards also come into play on a few holes. One of Talega's most memorable holes is the monstrous 13th. This par 5 requires a carry over not just one but two ravines.

had a fine time
Good challenging course. Greens were just aerated, but still played fair. Great spread out course. Helpful if you can place shots into specified areas of the fairway.
Bunkers appeared to need a bit of work.
Not enough value for the price
Course needs to offer more for this price. Layout is smart and designed nicely, but they're not taking care of the course and therefore the price is too high.
For the money they charge, I expect better.
Ex: no sand in bunkers. Large ground under repair sections. Uneven tee boxes.
Great Value
Knew the greens and other areas of the course had just undergone maintenance, however conditions not that bad.
Hope all the preparation is good groundwork for the upcoming Fall and Winter.
Love this course!
9 holes twice
It was fine except we didn’t know until we got there that we had to play the front 9 twice. The back nine was closed. Very disappointed :(
Layout
I love the layout. The course has everything from dog legs, water hazards etc.
Good pace of play. We were done with our round in 4hrs.
Moved well. Great Layout. Very nice staff. Traps need some work but otherwise Course is in pretty nice shape.
Good Day at Talega
Found a good pre-paid deal thru Golf Now. Got in a 3 -1/2 hour round with another single. Fairways were brown but the greens were very good.
A challenge for hackers
Most of the greens were in excellent shape and the fairways mostly good. A couple were brownded out, but that's not unusual for end of summer in southern CA. A buch of the golf carts are older and need to be retired (felt like they wouldnt always make it up the hill - though hey did). Driving range inconvenient.a good 5 to 10 mins from the first tee. Lots of sand and hills. For the most part if you dont stay in play, you will lose your ball.
Talega is pretty solid
For the price you can’t really beat this course! I could knit pick the tee boxes and collapsed sand traps, and gout dated carts; but then they would raise the green fees. I will be coming back here often.
Great course no 19 hole
Good course, great price and go to neighborhood bar for FnB.
Love it!
This course is one of my favorite in OC! The fairway on the second hole could use some work but other then that it is such a blast. Awesome course, great pace, and the greens were impeccable this morning. All around a blast of a day
Conditons getting better
I've played this course numerous times and I remember when it was awesome and the past fees years it has gone to crap. Course conditions have new really bad. Mostly the fairways being brown and extremely tight lies. I'm happy to report that it appears to have gotten a little better. Fairways seemed a little fluffier. The greens (except 18) are in great shape, but the sand traps need more sand. They are just mud/dirt traps. The layout is challenging, but fun. One hole (I think 15) is a blind tee which is just stupid rediculous because you really have no idea where to hit it if you tee off from the whites in the canyon. The blues can see a pole, but that pole is misleading. The fairway can't be seen. That hole needs a redesign. I've always liked the layout, but recently hated the conditions for how much they are charging. The prices shouldn't be more than $80 on weekends and $50 during the week. If they'd invest in course maintenence, they could justify the $80-$110 they try tocharge (altho cheaper rates on Golf Now, etc). They could be on par with Tijeras Creek if they tried.
Tees and Greens in good condition. Fairways in need of water.
