Foxtail Golf Club - South Course
About
There are two championship courses at Foxtail Golf Club, the North and the South. Situated in the heart of wine country, both courses enjoy a lush, scenic landscape and pleasant views of the surrounding countryside. The longer and more difficult North Course was completely redesigned to make it more challenging but the player-friendly South Course has remained a favorite destination of both Sonoma and Marin Counties for its playability. It provides a more beginner-friendly option than the North, but there are still plenty of challenges in store. No water hazards come into play but there are several strategically placed bunkers as well as trees lining the fairways. In addition to the two golf courses, Foxtail also boasts one of the best practice facilities in the North Bay. There is a full driving range available as well as chipping and putting greens.

foxtail north
understand the greens are some of the fastest in Sonoma Cnty. Lucky enough not to have experienced that on the day I played. Tee to green a great course
NOT SURE IT"S WORTH IT
Twosome. 3 hours to play 9 holes. Left after 11 to go wine tasting. Groups all over the place, no marshal, very poorly managed pace of play. Starter just let people go out "whenever".
Course was fair, but A LOT of mud holes around course. Lost 2 balls in 9-holes ON THE FAIRWAY in mud holes.
Carts were dirty and seat was all torn up.
Worth it? Not for me. I'd rather they charged $10 more per round and had a marshal on the course.
Great condition
I live in area and have played this course many times in the past. It's been a year since last played. I have to say that the course was in the best condition I've ever seen it. The fairways were cut perfectly and greens were excellent. All in all good deal for the money. Only minus was no true sand in bunkers.
Foxtail North Experience
The course is a very nice layout, with an abundance of natural water hazards and wetland areas. While the course does wind its way among a housing development, it still feels like a very natural NorCal setting, with ample redwoods and wetland areas. The greens and fairways are in very good condition. My only complaint is that the sand traps are poor, needing more sand and better drainage. The practice facilities are also excellent. Nice course at a good value.
Quick Greens .. stay in the fairway
Easier said than done. Need to stay in the fairway on this course or you can rattle around in the trees for days. Greens were deceptively quick and hard to read/pace. No marshals on the course so pace of play was longer than preferred.
Decent track
A fun course with a little difficultly dependent on the pin location. Great green conditions when I played
fun track
Fun track, nice place to play, traps need sand, good greens, it will challenge you, overall worth the price of admission
Type of day
Great Day...Great People....Great Everything
nice day of golf
my tee time was for 12:30 but I showed up early and the staff had no problem with me getting out early. The course was in excellent condition and was very enjoyable. The only disappointment was there was a very slow group in front of my threesome and the marshals did not move them along in a timely manner. They had 1 and half to 2 holes open in front of them the entire round.
The south course was in poor condition!
I will never play the south side again unless someone raves about the conditions! The greens were decent I'll give them that much. Im glad I know the north course is worth playing.
Now I get it!
Several year ago I played Foxtail South Course and had never been back, mainly because I don't like housing tract courses. I had been told that the North Course was very different. It most certainly is different, and in so many great ways. The condition is the first thing I noticed. The views are better. The houses are set further back and really never come into play.
We lived it and will be back!
Good golf
First time playing foxtail north, 2nd best round of golf I have ever played. I even beat my sensa.
Your Average public course
I played this course and rather liked it but I think it was the condition of the bunkers that lowered my score. They were just hard and not that well managed. The tees, fairways and greens were pretty good and the course was reasonably fair. I would play it again and look forward to trying the South course.
Good greens
Fun course....smooth greens....fairways in decent shape...most tee boxes are good. Played the south ....it is easier then the north...give it a try.
Foxtail South
Mostly flat course and walkable. The course was in good condition and the greens were in good shape. A few muddy areas on the course and I have heard this course doesn't drain very well. Nice course for an intermediate golfer or a golfer that hasn't played much golf lately.
Beautiful greens.
It took a couple holes to get used to the firmness and speed of the greens. But then, the putting was as close to perfect conditions as you will ever find.
Smooth, unblemished, fast greens made putting a real pleasure.
Because of the drought, the fairways are quite firm, and barren in spots.
