Foxtail Golf Club - South Course
About
There are two championship courses at Foxtail Golf Club, the North and the South. Situated in the heart of wine country, both courses enjoy a lush, scenic landscape and pleasant views of the surrounding countryside. The longer and more difficult North Course was completely redesigned to make it more challenging but the player-friendly South Course has remained a favorite destination of both Sonoma and Marin Counties for its playability. It provides a more beginner-friendly option than the North, but there are still plenty of challenges in store. No water hazards come into play but there are several strategically placed bunkers as well as trees lining the fairways. In addition to the two golf courses, Foxtail also boasts one of the best practice facilities in the North Bay. There is a full driving range available as well as chipping and putting greens.

Great conditions, not crowded, great value
Our foursome played the North course around 11:30 on a Tuesday. Nobody in front of us, nobody really behind us. Course conditions were very good, excellent when you consider the price. Water in a few of the bunkers which is odd considering there hasn't been rain in months. Greens were quick but rolled true.
Food and beverage was more than reasonably priced.
We will definitely return.
Challenging course that is very well kept
This is the best public course that I have played based on upkeep and challenge. It is surprising that it can be so green in the midst of a drought. We have always enjoyed all the sand traps, water, pace of play, and reasonable layout. Any level of golfer can experience some satisfaction and the better golfers will be delighted with the variety of looks.
Great greens, terrible bunkers
I course is in great shape except for the bunkers. The traps have clods of dirt and mud which are almost impossible to hit out of. They seriously need to replace the sand. I'm a good sand player and I had lots of trouble getting out of the traps. Otherwise, I like the course.
An old friend...
Returning to the North Course at Foxtail after many years, it was an enjoyable experience to come back to an old friend. While not the most challenging, or scenic, courses in Sonoma County, this course provides great conditions, adequately maintained greens, and a friendly atmosphere that, I must say, was lacking for a few years. Check-in was enjoyable for the first time in a while.
nice, competitive, well maintained, friendly staff
this course is very enjoyable. very nice surroundings. the only downside was that some of the bunkers were very hard and unplayable. everything else was wonderful.
Had great time golfing today.
The course was in excellent condition and pace of play was excellent also. The staff from check-in to on course marshal were very courteous and up beat. Also, couldn't beat the green fees. It would have been a value at twice what we paid.
Pretty good, but the sand traps are like cookie dough.
Foxtail is a pretty good course in pretty good shape, except the sand traps don't have sand in them, exactly. It's a mixture of clay and sand that you could make pottery with. You can't play a sand shot because the club just bounces on the clay, so you have to play it like you would off asphalt. They really need some attention from maintenance to make them playable. My friend said it's like playing out of cookie dough: sticky and unpredictable. If you play Foxtail, avoid the traps as it is at least a one stroke penalty. Or take a drop as you would from an unplayable lie; they're that bad!
This course has great possibilities. Just doesn't live up to them.
I found the lack of a range Marshall telling. Watching carts drive over the red, white, blue, gold, etc., tees very telling. The pace of play was unbelievable. The group ahead of us was comprised of new players, one lady who was playing off the blue tees and unable to make a distance of greater than 10 ft. Fine if you have a crew with you to support, but the rest of them couldn't play either.
On top of that, the course was underwatered, under cared for, even the putting green was trashed. I was so disappointed with the entire deal, I will never play there again. Why insist on no denim and a dress code when players then wear rags?
This was a fun course to play. It had nice par 3s and 4s, The 5s were challenging but makable in 2.
If you are in the area for the weekend ,this a nice course to play ,it runs through the home and it is cheap on golfnow.com.
Good value
Course is in good shape. The shape of the course has definitely improved. Greens were in great shape. Good course for the money.
awesome greens, good fairway, poor rough
The greens are cut nicely for this course and are all around good. The fairways need some attention on a few holes. The standing water in the rough is frustrating. Great value though
Enjoyed the round!
Played at 11;45 on a Tuesday, as a twosome. Was able to finish in less than 4 hours. Course was in good condition (fairway and greens). This is a good track to play.
This course has to many players shoved out!
Greens were good. Fairways need work. To many players hitting balls in to our fairway and not waiting for us to hit.
Flat course, good for walking
Good round, perfect weather lots of chances to score well.
I liked the wide open fairways
Nice Course..
I haven't played there in years,, but with with GolfNow I found an affordable Rate for two.. I enjoyed the Course very much. I will return soon for another Round.
Thank You
Budget course
Good course to get out after work at twilight rates. Course needs a lot of attention. The course takes a lot of abuse from hackers and boozers. Nobody cleans up after themselves around the green or in the bunkers. You could walk up to a green and spend a while trying to repair all the ball marks left behind. I dont think there is a single tee box that is level. If your serious about your round, you should pay a little more and go across the street to the north course. If you need a quick cheap round get an afternoon tee time,$19 with a cart.
Good deal with golfnow. Not crowded weekdays.
Course is OK, somewhat flat but enjoyable. North much better than south, but more $$. Some wet spots, just deal with it. Excellent electric carts. Good cart paths.
Fun track - greens were a mess...
We enjoy playing Foxtail North. A great course for walkers. Lots of quality shots. Tee boxes do not have yardages readily available so make sure you have your card handy. No drinking water. Bev cart made several passes which was helpful. Cart babe was very cordial. Our biggest beef was that the greens were recently punched. Pencil tip sized holes filled with sand made for very erratic putting and green quality is everything to us. We got a great "Hot Deal" price through GolfNow even so we felt the value was not there as we were repeatedly disgusted with the bumpiness and uneven pace from green to green. And of course the irony is that the practice putting green near the driving range was Awesome. We had to go putt for skins after the round to get our strokes back. Good thing the bar was open... We believe the course should have disclosed the recent aerification, we would have played elsewhere...
Too slow
The north course was closed so all play was on the south course we left after a front nine that approached three hours. Tee boxes and greens are in fair condition, the fairways are like mowed cow pasture in most places more weeds than actual grass. The staff are great especially in the bar and the event lady , even the Marshall's :)
