Foxtail Golf Club - South Course
About
There are two championship courses at Foxtail Golf Club, the North and the South. Situated in the heart of wine country, both courses enjoy a lush, scenic landscape and pleasant views of the surrounding countryside. The longer and more difficult North Course was completely redesigned to make it more challenging but the player-friendly South Course has remained a favorite destination of both Sonoma and Marin Counties for its playability. It provides a more beginner-friendly option than the North, but there are still plenty of challenges in store. No water hazards come into play but there are several strategically placed bunkers as well as trees lining the fairways. In addition to the two golf courses, Foxtail also boasts one of the best practice facilities in the North Bay. There is a full driving range available as well as chipping and putting greens.

Good public course and the GolfNow discount makes it a great value.
Foxtail North is a fine public course that plays very well most of the year. Great layout and design and some fun challenges. Has withstood the test of time with only minor areas in need of repair (some cracked cart paths). Happy to play this course with the GolfNow discount - otherwise would say it is priced moderately high. Management is professional and other golfers cordial.
great condition other than the putting green on the North Course
The course is in excellent shape (played the North Course). The tee boxes well maicured, the fairways were in great shape (dry but not overly hardened). Greens were quick and rolling true. not much of disease (maybe 1 sq foot on some greens) but ideal conditions. Course of play was great, but the only downfall is one cart girl for 2 courses makes for a long delay on being catered for drinks/ food/ snacks.
Rough needs attention.
South course rough needs to be cut shorter and have ground crew pick up cut grass. Spent too much time looking for balls in the first cut due to dried grass and excessive length of rough. This slows down play and is very frustration. Pro shop and starter staff were excellent. Ground crew needs to be directed to clean up the horrible rough.
way I like R P north course
Fairways in good shape sand traps need more att ( not raked and weeds growing) and they water to much to many wet spots
South course doesn't have remarkable features but it is a great value. North course is better maintained, but feels like playing in neighbors' yards.
The course is built over adobe clay that is typically found in this area. When wet, it sticks to your clubs like glue and requires significant cleanup after each round. I prefer the South course, since the north course is a links-style - I feel like I'm invading someone's back yard when I play it. I play the course several times each month and enjoy it each time. The terrain is so flat that drainage is difficult, so there is standing water and ground under repair most of the time. They are working on drainage, but they aren't there yet. I choose this course based on price. Better courses are available nearby but are twice the price of Foxtail.
Course was in good shape and pace of play was great!
Course was in good shape and pace of play was great. We had an early tee time.
Slooooooow
Unfortunately Foxtail South can back up quite a bit on a weekend. We had a noon tee time on a Sunday and didn't start until 12:25. Also, the pace of play was gawd awful. Had to wait 5-10 minutes every hole! Not sure if it's because it's hackville out there or they are over booking, but they probably are not regulating the pace of play enough anyways. It's so frustrating to have to wait so long between holes and shots. Hey, you get what you pay for! If you have time for a 5 1/2 hour round and don't mind really slow play, then Foxtail South is great for the price.
Good course, but completely over-booked and pace of play pathetic.
5 + hour round is ridiculous. Three groups on the tee box, repeatedly. Didn't make for a good experience.
1 star rating is generous. course in poor condition. Worst in area.
North course. 18 holes of unraked traps with deep footprints, no more than 1/8" of grass on most fairways. Staff says "we rake traps every other day"--looks more like every other week. Staff doesn't seem to care and have a poor attitude. Bad reflection on Rohnert Park if city owned. Bang for the buck = 0 Worst course in bay area IN OUR OPINION. Will not play there again in the forseable future.
A nice course for the value.
The North Course has a good layout and challenges the golfer to make club selections throughout. The 18th hole on the North Course is somewhat unfair as you can be penalized by your ball running into the water after a great tee shot for the entire length of the fairway. It appears to be set up that way on purpose as the grass is cut as short as on the greens and the fairway definately slopes hard to the water.
Otherwise, this is a good course.
Bang for the buck
Fairways are pretty rough right now, with a lot of bare spots but for the price you pay to play its hard to beat. The course was packed and backed up on most holes. It made getting in 18 holes with a twilight tee time a chore but we got it done. Greens are pretty consistent but show a lot of use. All in all its a great course to play on a weekend if you want a reasonable rate.
Affordable
Fairways are fast due to concrete like surface. Definitely in need of aeration. Green are ok but a little bumpy. Well placed water hazards for the novice. Bunkers are somewhat hard. Could use deep raking.
Great Track!!!!!!
It had been 6-7 years since I had played Foxtail, and I was very impressed in the upgrade to the course conditions! We played the North Course and had a great time. Kudos to the Superintendent and his staff - keep up the good work.
The greens were in good condition (2 were sanded in spots)
Good value. Would do it again if I could get the same deal!!!!
Nice course, but pig golfers
I thoroughly enjoyed the course--interesting holes, nicely designed, relatively fast undulating greens, and scenic (except for the many surrounding houses, though they do not come into play). Huge downside: the clientele are pigs. Bunkers were a mess--seldom raked, despite a minimum of two rakes per bunker laying alongside. Fairways were littered with un-replaced divots and there was no sand on the cart. And the greens--I am not exaggerating when I say this: my partner and I repaired on average, 15 ball marks APIECE on each and every green. And we didn't even begin to get the majority of them. We had to repair marks on virtually every green before we could even putt. They looked like an artillery range. I've never seen anything like it. Fortunately there were few people on the course so we didn't experience slow play. That would have pushed us over the edge. The entire north course is unfortunately separated from the clubhouse by a major thoroughfare, so getting food and drinks at the turn is not possible, but the cart gal came by three times during our round, which was appreciated. Our only other complaint is that because the course is surrounded by houses, they need restrooms. I needed one about half way through the round. Where did I find one? At the 17th tee box. Who designed a course and placed a restroom at the 17th tee? I'll play here again--it's an enjoyable layout. But I just can't get over the way the course is treated by the golfers and a few of the quirky design elements.
fairways need work
Course was reasonably priced, but the fairways were in poor condition and the drainage was poor. Greens could also use some work.
Ok.
Course was in good shape but grass was thin and ground hard. The greens were bumpy
This course has a lot of plusses
I have played this course a few times and enjoy coming back,I am a novice golfer and enjoy the chance to get out and play to improve my game and have an enjoyable time, and in saying so this course is challenging but not overwelling,it allows me to use a variety of clubs and situations to play. The greens are challenging and should not be thought as a slam dunk. The staff has always been friendly and helpful, thanks again and I will be back on this course again.
heavy rains have taken their toll on this course
heavy adobe soils are saturated to the point that several faiways are under repair. flooding of two creeks makes crossing the low bridges a bit scary. Once the weather begins to dry out the maintenance crew should be able to restore the course but for now I'd suggest playing elsewhere. Can't beat the great rates including cart that I got on GolfNow.com
what a round!
The North Course is located in the foothills which surround Rohnert Park. The fairways and greens were in immaculate condition and although the greens played pretty fast, I enjoyed a solid round of golf.
