The Trails of Frisco Golf Club
About
The Trails of Frisco golf course is one of Jeff Brauer’s most unique designs -- primarily because it doesn’t fit the mold of his other courses. Brauer, who’s known for his open, straight-forward courses, designed this one to tip out to a par 71, 6,900 yards, loaded it with hidden creeks, scenic wetlands, extensive bunkering, and massive greens. In fact, first-timers will be confused here. They’ll face intimidating views off the tee that leave doubt as to the problems that loom ahead, and it is definitely possible to lose all of your balls off the tee if you’re struggling.
The golf course is just flat-out challenging, especially on the front nine. No. 1 opens up with a creek on the left that cuts in front of the green and generally makes its presence known on every shot. The play here is to stay right and stay away from its subtle presence on the left side. The creek comes into play on Nos. 2, 4, 5, and even No. 9, where it chutes from the fairway in front of the green and surrounds the green of this challenging par 4.
All told, water and waste areas are in play on 16 of 18 holes (including every par 3), and the creeks are enhanced by visible lakes and ponds on the back side, even though it is considered a bit easier than the front.

#2 green @ Trails Photo submitted by bowhunter817 on 04/10/2013
Pace of play was far too slow for an 8:30am tee time. Greens were bumpy and poorly maintained. Sand traps were 90% dirt. More difficult than your average course, a fun play overall, but wouldn’t come back knowing about these issues.
Greens very bad shape
The putting green is basically un useable. No grass on it; except for some weed spots. They really should close half of it for 3-weeks so grass can grow then do the other side. It is truly not useable.
The greens on the course are better than the putting green but not great. They need more water and the ability to grow grass.
The golf carts are super old and seats have several places where foam is showing.
Fortunately only $60 for twilight but even that is a little high.
Not as horrible as I was expecting. But greens definitely were bad
I played a charity tournament here so I can’t speak to the value because I did not pay normal rates for the course. I am a member at a private course in DFW that hosts a PGA tournament, and so I was not expecting great conditions after reading the reviews of this course. But honestly it wasn’t nearly as bad as I was expecting.
The good: The layout is fun, not difficult, so most golfers can have a good time regardless of skill level. Fairways had more green grass than Stonebriar CC, which I had just played a week before Trails of Frisco. Staff was friendly.
The bad: The greens were among the worst I’ve played, you cannot hit a true putt. There’s poa annua everywhere on these greens and they’re bumpier than a teenage boy’s face. The fairways, while they had a good amount of grass, were rock hard. The soil here is very compacted and could use aeration and more irrigation. The tee boxes were similarly rock hard, so be prepared to break a tee or two just trying to find a soft spot. The driving range is also not in good shape.
The ugly: The carts were functional but cosmetically awful! There are holes all over the seats, looked like the goats who live on the course chewed up the seats too.
I honestly would not pay more than $35 for a round here. There’s probably better value elsewhere and it just feels like they haven’t invested much into the actual course.
No where near the course for the money!
There's no way on God's green earth ANYONE should pay 70 plus bucks to play this course! The greens are HORRIFIC! Edward James Olmos has a less bumps than the greens. Half the tee box's are trash, and the fairways don't feel like they've seen water this year. It's almost criminal to charge people the full rate for this place right now. Don't belive me, go look at the practice putting green. The only bunker to have sand in it, is on the 18th. SAVE YOUR MONEY!!!
Course wrap up
The fairways were in great shape but the greens were in poor shape. Carts were in poor condition and in fact ran out of power at 17th hole.
Terrible conditions & expensive
We paid ~$70 pp. conditions were the worst I’ve seen in Denton, Collin, or Tarrant counties.
Ditto
Just ditto to the last year worth of reviews. It needs to be shut down and renovated. It’s a crime they’re charging $70.
Course Conditions
Unplayable sand traps. Greens in terrible shape. Bridge construction going on. Not worth $75 for a weekend round. Highway robbery. There are better courses around for far less.
Save yourself from frustration
Fantastic, challenging course layout, and nice fairways. That’s about it.
Every single green has crabgrass or extensive patches of weeds, creating a situation where almost no putt rolls true. Rock hard greens.
Truly disappointing after the amount of work that’s been put into the rest of the course. This place only wants your money, zero maintenance has gone into the greens (you get a preview of what is to come at the putting green).
I played for $24 and I still think that’s too much. Not worth your time or money.
Embarrassing!!!
$75 for a round? Can’t putt on the greens. Can’t play sand traps. There is literally garbage in some.
Not Worth It
Played here multiple times and this was by far the worst. Greens are in bad shape, bunkers are unplayable, and they are still trying to charge $50+ on a Monday. Will not be back for a while
The Greens were not in good condition
Not a bad course but the greens wore in bad shape.
Played there before and it wasn’t that bad
Pace of play was slower than before
Disappointed
I usually play with some folks that live in Sachse and we usually play in that area but since I live in Frisco , they wanted to try a course near me and I selected this course, and boy were we all disappointed , greens were so bumpy and sand most traps were also not playable, we felt they should have offered a discount due to the conditions, I would not recommend this course.
Greens are not good
Played here many times, and usually in decent shape. Fairways are really bare even for a Texas course this time of the year. Greens were extremely bumpy. Maybe a transition period before the summer conditions?? Glad I only paid the twilight fee
This Course is a Disaster
The sign in the pro shop stated - working on the sand traps. They should be working on the greens too. They were essentially unplayable - dirt and weeds. The honestly should shut this course down and try to get it healthy. It is the worse condition I have seen a course in the metroplex in 30 years. The fact we paid $50 for a after 3pm round of golf is farcical. this is a solid $5 a round course. Ridiculous. Do not waste your time or money.
Incredibly disappointed
The layout and staff are good but the course is trashed. The greens are horrific. It's just weeds. You can't putt on them. The bunkers are even worse. They're all washed out. It looks like this course was hit by a hurricane. There's absolutely no reason anyone should pay $70 to play this course.
This course has to be in the worse shape it’s ever been
Greens and traps were so bad it was embarrassing. Very surprised to this as normally it’s in decent shape
Disappointed!
After playing this course before, I was extremely, disappointed in the condition of the course and greens.
Granted, weather and what looked like some flooding had occurred, but the course was in very bad shape.
Definitely not worth $55 for a Monday morning. With the course in the shape it is currently in, they should offer a discounted rate until it’s back to normal.
There are plenty of other courses around in much better shape and better value for money.
