The Trails of Frisco golf course is one of Jeff Brauer’s most unique designs -- primarily because it doesn’t fit the mold of his other courses. Brauer, who’s known for his open, straight-forward courses, designed this one to tip out to a par 71, 6,900 yards, loaded it with hidden creeks, scenic wetlands, extensive bunkering, and massive greens. In fact, first-timers will be confused here. They’ll face intimidating views off the tee that leave doubt as to the problems that loom ahead, and it is definitely possible to lose all of your balls off the tee if you’re struggling.

The golf course is just flat-out challenging, especially on the front nine. No. 1 opens up with a creek on the left that cuts in front of the green and generally makes its presence known on every shot. The play here is to stay right and stay away from its subtle presence on the left side. The creek comes into play on Nos. 2, 4, 5, and even No. 9, where it chutes from the fairway in front of the green and surrounds the green of this challenging par 4.

All told, water and waste areas are in play on 16 of 18 holes (including every par 3), and the creeks are enhanced by visible lakes and ponds on the back side, even though it is considered a bit easier than the front.

Good but Rough

This place is normally my go to for my weekend rounds but i dont know I am eager to go back. Tee boxes where Hard as a rock and difficult to get a tee into the ground. The greens had weeds in them which affected play. Fairways, where hard and dry and had a drum sound when you hit off em. Disappointed how rough of shape the course was in.

Hasn’t recovered from winter

The staff was very friendly and extremely helpful. The layout of this course is one of my favorites in the North Dallas area. Unfortunately, the grounds have not fully recovered from this winter’s snow storm. I’m sure it’ll be back to it’s normal luster in a few weeks. I will definitely recommend this course and look forward to playing here again soon!!

Starter tips

Greens suck! Layout and design challenging from blue tees. The staff and especially starter were key to first time golfers!

First time.

Course is dry and bunkers apparently haven’t been touched for a while. Nice layout and didn’t feel pressed and while I don’t play slow, I do tend to take the scenic route.

Solid value.

Challenging course

Lots of water hazards on most holes. If you know the course you can find your way around the hazards but this course will challenge your score. Played on a Friday afternoon in 4.25 hours.

Winter Golf

I really like this course. Challenging layout. Staff is always great. Good conditions. Do you sense a 'but' coming.... The foursome in front of us was slow, and they got slower throughout the round. Think the last two holes took 35 min to play. Wish there was a Smart Cart with a Timer and GPS. At the maximum time allowed each hole, a really annoying alarm, horn or Abba song goes off and the group must pick up and leave the hole. In fact, I am now establishing a new Rules of Casual Golf: Rule #1 - If you are in a lake, its ok, your ball just needed a swim. Drop anywhere, no penalty. #2 Ball in the Sand? Just a trip to the beach, drop away where you don't hit back over the sand, no penalty. #3 Can't find you ball? It's playing hide and seek, drop anywhere, no penalty. #4 Go over maximum allowed time per hole, all players penalized 5 strokes. #5 2-Putt maximum per hole, after 2 putts, pickup your ball. #6 You MUST repair ball marks. Penalty is a beer per player for the group behind you. #7 Talking on the green is a 5 shot penalty. You must wait until you get back to your carts to begin talking again. Finally, #8 Whatever tees you play from, go to the next set up. You are actually worse than you think you are, sand baging is ok. Exception: If you shoot mid 70's or better, play whatever tee's you desire each hole. We now have an enjoyable 3 1/2 hour round of golf and all is good with the world.
