The Trails of Frisco Golf Club
About
The Trails of Frisco golf course is one of Jeff Brauer’s most unique designs -- primarily because it doesn’t fit the mold of his other courses. Brauer, who’s known for his open, straight-forward courses, designed this one to tip out to a par 71, 6,900 yards, loaded it with hidden creeks, scenic wetlands, extensive bunkering, and massive greens. In fact, first-timers will be confused here. They’ll face intimidating views off the tee that leave doubt as to the problems that loom ahead, and it is definitely possible to lose all of your balls off the tee if you’re struggling.
The golf course is just flat-out challenging, especially on the front nine. No. 1 opens up with a creek on the left that cuts in front of the green and generally makes its presence known on every shot. The play here is to stay right and stay away from its subtle presence on the left side. The creek comes into play on Nos. 2, 4, 5, and even No. 9, where it chutes from the fairway in front of the green and surrounds the green of this challenging par 4.
All told, water and waste areas are in play on 16 of 18 holes (including every par 3), and the creeks are enhanced by visible lakes and ponds on the back side, even though it is considered a bit easier than the front.

Good value with one VERY bad aspect
I have played this course before, but it had been a long time. I was literally on the first hole when I realized the thing I didn't like about it.
I have never in my life played a course with less information available to players about how far they are away from greens. There are literally 0 ground markers on the course giving you distances and there are no colored stakes for yellow/blue/white/red. There are some very faded paint on the cart path on some holes, but you can often times not even see it from the middle of the fairway.
Later in the day I realized some holes have big rocks next to the fairway that might indicate 150 out, but not every hole has them. I just find it baffling. I can't imagine playing that course for the first time alone. What a simple thing to fix.
Otherwise it was in good condition and was a good value. The only other thing I would mention is that we are still in quasi lockdown COVID mode right now and the pro shop guy basically told me to play with my partner in the same cart. It didn't bother me, but most other courses around right now are doing 1 cart / person. So it might bother some people.
In good shape
They kept the course in great shape during the COVID pandemic.
Coping Well with COVID
This course moved up in my priority due to the way they're handling COVID. Trails of Frisco is doing much better than another area course I played last week. One player per cart (except for family members) as long as they have enough. They did have enough for me, playing on Saturday afternoon. They also have a stock of very nice 3-wheel push carts available. Although the phone line said the putting and chipping practice areas were closed, when I asked at the desk they said "Sure, go ahead. Just keep your spacing." The clubhouse bar and restrooms are open, with tables spread far apart. On the course, the fairways are fine. The greens had some tendency to bounce but were good enough for an enjoyable round. Foam rings were used around the pins, and were correctly sized to keep from making the putts easier than they should be. I'm definitely looking to play here again.
Playing with new parameters
Pace of play was 3 1/2 hours after we played through a slow 3 some in front of us. Course was very dry considering the amount of rain we have been getting. I expected the greens to be as good as they get do I the weather here but was surprised they were so bumpy. Fairway in good share even with the hard ground.
For the money it is a value
Wonderful for Course and Staff
Always friendly staff and course condition was excellent.
Aired greens
This is an excellent Golf course, however, I was not told that their greens were in a poor condition. Putting was a complete waste of time. Despite the fact that they are repairing their greens they are going to charge you a full price for 18 holes. I may be back when they 1) charge a reasonable price or 2) they complete their work and greens worth the money.
Target golf
I enjoyed the layout, particularly off the tee. There are very few holes where you grab driver without thinking about it. Well maintained fairways and greens. My only frustration is the course is extremely penal for misses. With OB/water on many holes, I don’t believe they need to have so many areas that are not mown where you will also almost certainly lose a ball.
love layout - but needs watering
trails is one of my favorite course, however, the course needs watering, everything from the hard fairways to the greens that are were punched some time ago and are trying to heal slowly with the lack of water. i am going to try the course again Wed, hope its better .
challenging course
First, my wife and I were planning to walk ( she was injured with a bad knee injury but was trying to play along with me - the staff was so kind as to let her use a cart with no extra charge - i wanted to walk so continued to do so - was a god send for her - thanks!)
the course conditions i think are quite good - this is a tough course - some very difficult holes - if you shoot in the 70's here off the blue trees you are a very very good golfer.. pace was good - cover restrictions were fine and did not impair my enjoyment of the day..
I will be back
thanks!
Rough
First and foremost the course itself isn’t really that bad. The greens are mostly sand but nothing you can do right now. Hopefully time will fix this. The fairways are hard and flat. And boy oh boy I hate this course. There is zero rough. If you aren’t on the fairway your ball is gone. I’m not a good player by any means, generally I shoot 95-102 but I don’t often lose more then a ball or two a round. This course tho every time I lose 9-10 balls. It’s just rough to play.
Turn on The Sprinklers
Tee boxes rock hard and greens need water. I live on another course and it’s greens and tee boxes are in far better condition. The layout is really neat and a challenging course it just needs work.
Enjoyed the Round
The weather was great and walking the course was very nice. Fairways are looking great, but the greens have been punched and still growing in... so very slow and bumpy. Will be better in a few weeks, just need some heat!!
Good golf in COVID times
Recommended. Most important is the golf. The course is in good shape. Courses in the area differ in how they are operating in these closed off times. Here the putting green and practice range are closed so it’s all focused on getting on the course. We paid online and the starter had the record so this was easy. Clubhouse offered snacks at the turn, ordered from a helpful clerk outside.
Mediocre overall
Played after a big rain but I can tell that’s not the reason that the course was in such rough shape. Tight lies in fairways, bunkers unplayable, and greens recently punched. Course layout only allows for 3-4 driver shots off tee, which I usually like, but not this time.
Drying on the way...
Always challenges course.
Little muddy spotted fairway after rain storm.
But playing good with wife.
Fun hole cups, protective Corona virus...
Good for Healthcare for everyone.
Wonderful job and thanks for maintenances
guy's and All members of Trail of Frisco Golf club..
Love this course but tough
I really enjoy this course and if you are moving you game up to the next level this is a course for that. This is a tough course for high handicappers. It was windy, in addition to winter conditions, so the round I had was very challenging. On a calm day this is a tough course but worth it to work on your game. This course has everything for a good day of golf.
