The Trails of Frisco Golf Club
About
The Trails of Frisco golf course is one of Jeff Brauer’s most unique designs -- primarily because it doesn’t fit the mold of his other courses. Brauer, who’s known for his open, straight-forward courses, designed this one to tip out to a par 71, 6,900 yards, loaded it with hidden creeks, scenic wetlands, extensive bunkering, and massive greens. In fact, first-timers will be confused here. They’ll face intimidating views off the tee that leave doubt as to the problems that loom ahead, and it is definitely possible to lose all of your balls off the tee if you’re struggling.
The golf course is just flat-out challenging, especially on the front nine. No. 1 opens up with a creek on the left that cuts in front of the green and generally makes its presence known on every shot. The play here is to stay right and stay away from its subtle presence on the left side. The creek comes into play on Nos. 2, 4, 5, and even No. 9, where it chutes from the fairway in front of the green and surrounds the green of this challenging par 4.
All told, water and waste areas are in play on 16 of 18 holes (including every par 3), and the creeks are enhanced by visible lakes and ponds on the back side, even though it is considered a bit easier than the front.

Golfer Reviews
This is a nice course for the money.
Great course. I have played it on multiple occasions and you hardly ever see the drink cart so bring a cooler.
They need to cut down the tall weeds that border the fairways, creeks, and ponds.

An all-around enjoyable experience.
The course was very busy the day I played. In spite of the fact that they were very busy, the staff was friendly and helpful. The fairways were dry because of the drought, but in better shape than I expected. The greens rolled true -- if you hit a good putt, it had every chance of going in. The course is a good balance of difficult holes and scoring holes.
2 minor caveats -- 1) the snack bar was overwhelmed by the crowd -- took a while and 2) I had a little trouble finding a level spot on a couple of tee boxes. Moved around a little and found a suitable spot.
Course was great and challenging
The layout of the course was great. Shot hitting course. Will definitely play it again.
Enjoyable course
The course was in good condition and the greens were average speed and were in very nice shape. There is plenty of trouble and there are a few forced carries, but the course was fair. The GPS worked well and helped speed up play. There was a refreshment cart on the course which helped in the 100 degree weather. The comments about the traps are correct. Some were hard as rock - I would think that there is sand available in Texas.
Fun course if you like challenges
Trails of Frisco was a fun and challenging course. The front nine was a good test, then the back nine got pretty challenging. Tight fairways with hazards all around and in between made it tough off the tee. The course overall was in great shape for this time of year. A couple of the fairways that had hills or sloped a lot were pretty dried out which made them difficult to hit off of in a couple of spots. Other than that the greens were solid and had a lot of break in them. This is a course I'll definitely revisit.
Ran into back os a SLOW tourney
I'm glad I played the course, but wouldn't go out of my way to go again. It was ok...not great, but ok. We did run into the back of a slow tourney, so I got to watch the future (juniors) slow players of America over analyze tee shots, approaches, chips and putts...
Nice course, reasonably priced
Enjoyed playing the course. Reasonably well maintained, pace of play was good. The marshalls were visible, ensuring that play was not stalled.
The course was not too difficult, but it had some interesting holes that challenged the golfer.
Great course played in the grass.
The grass part of the course was awesome. Rough was not too high but very thick. Fairways were great. Green were smooth but extremely slow. However, the traps are basically tight dirt lies. Not even worth raking because you might break some teeth on the rake. Stay out of those and it is a really fun course.
Great Course
Great Course, well kept, nice staff. Fairways looked good, but the bunkers need improvement.
Good layout, needs attention to be great.
Greens were full, too full. Slow and spongy.
Fairways were plush and the traps still were bare. They either need to add sand, or just make 1/2 of them waste or grass bunkers.
Excellent Course, Great Price!
Outstanding course, great layout, fine condition except the bunkers, greens rolled true but slower in the morning. Got to play with two of the Marshalls...class acts! Plenty of "character" with differnet holes, some elevation changes.
Definitely a "shot maker's" course on a few holes, yet also more forgiving on others.
Nice course, sand traps need some sand but overall great shape
My partner was 30 minutes late, and staff responded very professionally and courteous. We played with Joe one of the course marshal's. He was great, will be back soon.
Fun
Excellent value @ 24.00. We were paired into a foursome with two good guys. Very enjoyable.
Good course!!!
This golf course has some great features.
I liked te overall condition of fairway but not all (some part is not well maintained).
Grean is not too fast but okay and good to putt a ball.
Further, What i most liked was the layout and difficulty of the course. Somr holes were easy to pin down but not all of it. Some holes really made me think twice.
Great Course for Every Day Play
After our experience on the course it's definitely going into the regular rota for our group. Well maintained with a few challenging holes and a few easy holes, this course should be looked at for anyone who plays regularly in the Frisco area.
This course requires great game management
First time I played this course and was in great shape. This course is definitely a thinker's game type course. I was paired with a couple of older gentlemen who played this course before and they helped me a lot with how each hole had hazards and how it was designed.
This course has great character and features!
Coming from just north of the Red River (SouthCentral OK) I was pleasantly surprised to find greens that were rolling very true, and yet were very receptive to well struck shots! This was my first time around this track and to have such manicured tight lies anywhere in the fairway was also a delight. Course staff was pleasant, but teeing off later in the afternoon (2:45pm) we didn't see the beverage cart but one time during the whole round! Other than that.....I look forward to playing another round for sure!
Tougher than expected
The course was in great shape. The greens will hold full long iron shots and allow you to spin the ball towards tough pin placements. Tee shots always give you aggressive and safe options with well placed shots paying off. On the other hand, approach shots not as forgiving with trouble often on all 4 sides. I will play again because I love a good challenge.
