The Trails of Frisco golf course is one of Jeff Brauer’s most unique designs -- primarily because it doesn’t fit the mold of his other courses. Brauer, who’s known for his open, straight-forward courses, designed this one to tip out to a par 71, 6,900 yards, loaded it with hidden creeks, scenic wetlands, extensive bunkering, and massive greens. In fact, first-timers will be confused here. They’ll face intimidating views off the tee that leave doubt as to the problems that loom ahead, and it is definitely possible to lose all of your balls off the tee if you’re struggling.

The golf course is just flat-out challenging, especially on the front nine. No. 1 opens up with a creek on the left that cuts in front of the green and generally makes its presence known on every shot. The play here is to stay right and stay away from its subtle presence on the left side. The creek comes into play on Nos. 2, 4, 5, and even No. 9, where it chutes from the fairway in front of the green and surrounds the green of this challenging par 4.

All told, water and waste areas are in play on 16 of 18 holes (including every par 3), and the creeks are enhanced by visible lakes and ponds on the back side, even though it is considered a bit easier than the front.

This course should be 45 bucks…for now

No sand in the bunkers. One bridge is out so we started on the tenth, I couldn’t get my gps watch to start on the tenth. I could edit the scorecard but had no idea of the lay out and hazards for holes 10-18. The website has a hole layout diagram but it’s not on the score card. A few holes have double creeks so that would have helped. It was $59. Right now it plays like $40-$45 Staff was great!

Trails of Frisco can get better

Played on a weekend morning. Pace of play was good but the course condition was not up to par given the price. Carts are older and no GPS, cart paths were in need of repair, some bunkers were totally unplayable, and the fairways were very under watered. For $90+ I would play somewhere else. Not a good value for the money.

Great greens and above average fairways…. And that’s it

Tee boxes and bunkers were awful. Schedule tee times right on top of each other so there’s a backup on each box. Definitely not worth the $100 price tag. Won’t be playing again

Just bad

Cart girl didn't show up for work. 97 degrees outside. Greens are in good shape. Fairways are not good. This course is in steep decline. What was once a beautiful, well kept, challenging course is now a shadow of its former self. Pace of play was atrocious. Bridges are in disrepair. No signs on cart path in intersections. Cart paths caving in everywhere. In order to play hole 1, you hae to tee off, then drive over to hole 10, drive the length of it, hit a dirt trail back over to hole 1, then drive back up the fairway to your balls. They had us tee off on 10. When we got back to 1 for the back 9, it took us 31 minutes to make it off hole 1. Unacceptable. 5 1/2 hour round on a Sunday morning.

Honestly, I can overlook a lot of things. I know maintenance is expensive... but there is no way I can overlook not having a beverage cart on the course when it's 97 degrees - forcing a stop at the turn in a 5 1/2 hour round. This is the second time (2 for 2) that's happened this year. Last year the course seemed to be maintained better, but not great.

Disappointing round and I don't think I'll return to Frisco Trails. I've given it 5 tries the last couple of years and I always say 'no more' - it's gotten bad enough that I mean it.

If this goat trail were $29 to play, I'd expect exactly what we got... but not at the price they're asking. It's a complete ripoff.

Goining downhill. Grass/Sand bunkers BAD

The general course upkeep is getting worse each year. Nothing new or improved. Sad since the layout can be challenging. Take a drop from any sand traps; they’re that poorly maintained.

Good on a Hot Deal, won’t be back

As per usual, Frisco public golf disappoints. Several bunkers on this course were just wrecked, filled with weeds. Bunkers that were kept were barely sanded. Many tee boxes were too hard to put a tee in, and a lot of the course was just a mess, especially around cart paths as you got on and off the fairways.

For a 40$ hot deal, it’s okay, but to pay full price here is just awful given what the conditions are. I know this course has drainage issues when it rains, and that it often floods, but that doesn’t address the fact it needs a multimillion dollar renovation to get itself right between the cart paths bunkers a tee boxes. I think I’d rather have made the trek to other courses in Carrollton, McKinney, or some of the other areas around the metroplex. If either trails or Frisco lakes could figure out how to be well kept, they’d be full each weekend and could make real bank as an alternative to 300$ tee times at Fields Ranch, but instead they both seem to be consistently racing towards becoming dirt patches the quickest.

Tons of repairs and damage due to rain but many areas were dry and rough. many holes were extremely tight and narrow with hazzards everywhere

Carts were low powered and no navigation. Also didn't get a course map...really tough with many blind holes.

Course layout

Course in heart of Frisco. Twilight Price it good value. Prime time course rate I would pass. Greens were in great shape. Fairways were 7 out of 10. Anything off the course…cart path, rough areas and bridges were at 3 out of 10. understand the bridge on #1 is out but the rest of the course lacked maintenance. Tee boxes were in bad shape. Sand traps were like concrete.

Be sure to study the course layout. Many non driver holes due to creeks and fairway. maintenance.

have plenty of gold balls because there are hazards on every hole and unless you are a decent handicap you can plan on losing several balls.

Very hard, great layout, terrible bunkers

You better bring your A game…. 4’ weeds everywhere if you miss the fairway. Especially the back 9. Fun though! Bunkers were the worse I’ve ever seen- anywhere. Just dirt in many of them. Greens were pretty good.

Great course

I would have given it all 5 stars except that several of the greens had recently been aerated so were a little bumpy. Also they had a collapsed bridge on #1 so you had to walk down to the T-box to tee off (par5) and then drive down to the 10th green, cut across the dough and then backtrack to your ball. But other than these two things, everything was 5 Stars.

Average golf course

Good things: the greens are in great shape and respond well to properly hit shots and putts roll very true; fairways are in good shape right now which isn't always the case; friendly staff

Need work: almost all the bunkers need serious help, most are unplayable; many of the teeboxes need to be redone; there are several bridges and they all need to be repaired, one is completely washed out; no GPS on carts, no coolers

Rough Shape

Greens were recently punched. We knew that going in. Most tee boxes, in spite of all the rain, were so hard it was hard to put a peg in the ground. Bunkers were mostly unplayable, like hardened lava fields. We eventually took free drops. Lot of bare spots in the grass. Bridges were damaged or missing completely. Desk guy was really nice and helpful. Bartender was great as well. All in all, better options out there.

Avoid this course. Barely playable. Not worth the green fee.

Course was in very poor condition. I almost broke my ankle in a hole covered by grass next to the green. .
