The Trails of Frisco Golf Club
About
The Trails of Frisco golf course is one of Jeff Brauer’s most unique designs -- primarily because it doesn’t fit the mold of his other courses. Brauer, who’s known for his open, straight-forward courses, designed this one to tip out to a par 71, 6,900 yards, loaded it with hidden creeks, scenic wetlands, extensive bunkering, and massive greens. In fact, first-timers will be confused here. They’ll face intimidating views off the tee that leave doubt as to the problems that loom ahead, and it is definitely possible to lose all of your balls off the tee if you’re struggling.
The golf course is just flat-out challenging, especially on the front nine. No. 1 opens up with a creek on the left that cuts in front of the green and generally makes its presence known on every shot. The play here is to stay right and stay away from its subtle presence on the left side. The creek comes into play on Nos. 2, 4, 5, and even No. 9, where it chutes from the fairway in front of the green and surrounds the green of this challenging par 4.
All told, water and waste areas are in play on 16 of 18 holes (including every par 3), and the creeks are enhanced by visible lakes and ponds on the back side, even though it is considered a bit easier than the front.

Great first time
Great first experience at this course! Pro shop was great and knowledgeable. Although the greens were under repair, the layout was wonderful. I’ll be back soon!
Not to bad
No as bad as the reviews say, yes it may be a little over priced but everything is now days. A couple tee boxes need some grass but overall not bad. I will say pace of play was slow for sure.
Course Conditions
There was some good rain a few days prior, so I expected the course to be wet, but not flooded! There was. I mention of it when we checked in and the tee boxes were complete mud pits and most of the course was still a river.
Truly disappointed with the lack of transparency, but they were happy and quick to take my money and offer nothing nor an apology when mentioned.
We actually only could manage 9 holes as it wasn’t even worth playing more.
This course has potential, but they need to invest money to make it a course worth playing, rain or not!
What happened?
PLease note - it did rain over 2" the day before we played.
The pro shop was nearly empty - no merchandise, very little in the way of personnel. The cart we were asked to take had a wobbly wheel and the steering was nearly gone. Range was closed due to conditions (they told us that). Putting green had no holes, only sticks in the ground. Cart path only (Obviously).
Bunkers were filled with water and we lost a half dozen balls in them. No drainage whatsoever and often no rakes to even attempt to get your ball back. Lots of muddy areas near cart paths and along edges of fairways (usually bare earth I guess). Greens were actually in decent shape considering the rest of the course conditions. Changing wind conditions made it tougher than ever. This is usually a tough course even in no wind and good conditions.
Bottom line - not worth the rate they charged. Even knowing the conditions we expected a bit more of this course.
Run down
Bad ownership. No investment into the grounds, bunkers, facilities, etc. really poor conditions. I like the layout of the course. I wish everyone would stop playing here to force the owners to refresh the course
Pretty Good
The greens are in pretty good shape; much better than 2023. Fairways and tees still need grass as there are some bare spots, but overall good challenging course. Expensive on the weekends though.
Great layout
I play here often and enjoy it every time. The layout is great, very challenging with no holes being alike. The greens are always in great shape, fairways sometimes suffer after a heavy run but bounce back nicely. If the practice areas would get some attention this would be a top notch course.
The driving range has a lot of potential but needs new mats and a focus on providing grass to hit off of when possible. There is not much of a chipping area either. The putting green is great.
All in all, I love playing here and have friends that will happily make the drive up as well.
Terrible condition
Paid $95 to play this course. Course was in terrible condition. I wouldn’t play this course again if it was free.
Don’t
This course is beyond bad. Horrible bunkers that hadn’t seen maintenance in months. The t boxes were dirt. Trash everywhere. Overpriced for such a bad place. It’s not a dormant issue. It’s a zero maintenance issue. Not sure what happened but there are much better options.
Very Disappointing
Apparently tee boxes with grass is optional at this course. This course is not well maintained. This is my one and only time playing here.
Good course.
Great layout and pretty tough, greens were in good shape. Tee boxes need a lot of work as well as the driving range. But for the price it’s a lot of fun in the heart of Frisco.
Trails of Frisco
Worst range I’ve been to in awhile. Nots a lot of work ($) - bridges, cart paths, etc.
Course maintenance has declined
The good - greens are in good condition.
The bad:
1-tee boxes hard as a rock; most had little to no grass
2-fairways hard a rock; ball will roll forever but middle of fairway is like hitting off concrete; the rough is no better
3-sand traps many are not maintained and were hard as rocks as well;
Practice range had no place for a tee; hitting off of rock hard turf that should have been replaced years ago.
Not worth the price! This is a $25 beginner course.
