The Trails of Frisco Golf Club
About
The Trails of Frisco golf course is one of Jeff Brauer’s most unique designs -- primarily because it doesn’t fit the mold of his other courses. Brauer, who’s known for his open, straight-forward courses, designed this one to tip out to a par 71, 6,900 yards, loaded it with hidden creeks, scenic wetlands, extensive bunkering, and massive greens. In fact, first-timers will be confused here. They’ll face intimidating views off the tee that leave doubt as to the problems that loom ahead, and it is definitely possible to lose all of your balls off the tee if you’re struggling.
The golf course is just flat-out challenging, especially on the front nine. No. 1 opens up with a creek on the left that cuts in front of the green and generally makes its presence known on every shot. The play here is to stay right and stay away from its subtle presence on the left side. The creek comes into play on Nos. 2, 4, 5, and even No. 9, where it chutes from the fairway in front of the green and surrounds the green of this challenging par 4.
All told, water and waste areas are in play on 16 of 18 holes (including every par 3), and the creeks are enhanced by visible lakes and ponds on the back side, even though it is considered a bit easier than the front.

Great layout
I play here often and enjoy it every time. The layout is great, very challenging with no holes being alike. The greens are always in great shape, fairways sometimes suffer after a heavy run but bounce back nicely. If the practice areas would get some attention this would be a top notch course.
The driving range has a lot of potential but needs new mats and a focus on providing grass to hit off of when possible. There is not much of a chipping area either. The putting green is great.
All in all, I love playing here and have friends that will happily make the drive up as well.
Terrible condition
Paid $95 to play this course. Course was in terrible condition. I wouldn’t play this course again if it was free.
Don’t
This course is beyond bad. Horrible bunkers that hadn’t seen maintenance in months. The t boxes were dirt. Trash everywhere. Overpriced for such a bad place. It’s not a dormant issue. It’s a zero maintenance issue. Not sure what happened but there are much better options.
Very Disappointing
Apparently tee boxes with grass is optional at this course. This course is not well maintained. This is my one and only time playing here.
Good course.
Great layout and pretty tough, greens were in good shape. Tee boxes need a lot of work as well as the driving range. But for the price it’s a lot of fun in the heart of Frisco.
Trails of Frisco
Worst range I’ve been to in awhile. Nots a lot of work ($) - bridges, cart paths, etc.
Course maintenance has declined
The good - greens are in good condition.
The bad:
1-tee boxes hard as a rock; most had little to no grass
2-fairways hard a rock; ball will roll forever but middle of fairway is like hitting off concrete; the rough is no better
3-sand traps many are not maintained and were hard as rocks as well;
Practice range had no place for a tee; hitting off of rock hard turf that should have been replaced years ago.
Not worth the price! This is a $25 beginner course.
Brutal Conditions
The course is in rough shape. Greens were well taken care of for the most part, but the lack of grass or any growth at all in much of the course was not something I’ve ever experienced before at any location or time of year. Understand it’s early in the season/barely getting started, but the damage goes well beyond timing. Given the other courses in the area, would strongly suggest you skip this one.
No grass on tee boxes
Greens were excellent. Tee boxes and fairways were dirt
Trails of Frisco aka TPC NoGrass
Terrible experience. Depressing. Fairways look like tractor pull race day before, driving range chewed up and spit out garbage. This place is a dumpster fire. Trash everywhere, in fairways, in hazards, ancient range ball covers on every hole. Surprised anyone works here. Sad place. Put a fork in this dinosaur.
Course is a mixed bag right now
The staff when I checked in was very friendly. I actually do enjoy the layout as there are some tough holes and some easy holes but overall it’s a fun layout. Right now, the greens are in good shape, a few trouble spots here and there but for the most part rolled well and had good pace to them. The fairways and tee boxes on the other hand were like playing on the field you’d see from Lambeau in the 60’s. They were incredible hard and were chopped up from being aerated. Literally added 20-30 yards of roll every shot because the ground was so hard. Looked like that hadn’t watered since last summer.
Course Condition
The tee boxes were in awful condition. The fairways are like playing on concrete. They just airated them but it looks like they neglected maintenance for the last several months.
We also encountered several very slow groups. We got stacked up on the 11th & 12th holes. We waited 30 minutes at each before teeing off.
Such wasted potential
First, the good: The layout of the course is awesome, with no two holes alike. Greens were in great shape, especially for February.
Now the bad: horrendous conditions overall. Worst driving range and tee boxes I've seen in years. Lots of bare or muddy areas on the fairway. Cracked concrete everywhere.
I feel sorry for the homeowners around this course who paid premiums. This course is extremely poorly maintained. There's no excuse especially with the revenues this course is surely generating.
Whatever excess cashflow is going into the owners pockets in the short term will surely exceed the loss in value of the golf course in the long term.
