The Trails of Frisco Golf Club
About
The Trails of Frisco golf course is one of Jeff Brauer’s most unique designs -- primarily because it doesn’t fit the mold of his other courses. Brauer, who’s known for his open, straight-forward courses, designed this one to tip out to a par 71, 6,900 yards, loaded it with hidden creeks, scenic wetlands, extensive bunkering, and massive greens. In fact, first-timers will be confused here. They’ll face intimidating views off the tee that leave doubt as to the problems that loom ahead, and it is definitely possible to lose all of your balls off the tee if you’re struggling.
The golf course is just flat-out challenging, especially on the front nine. No. 1 opens up with a creek on the left that cuts in front of the green and generally makes its presence known on every shot. The play here is to stay right and stay away from its subtle presence on the left side. The creek comes into play on Nos. 2, 4, 5, and even No. 9, where it chutes from the fairway in front of the green and surrounds the green of this challenging par 4.
All told, water and waste areas are in play on 16 of 18 holes (including every par 3), and the creeks are enhanced by visible lakes and ponds on the back side, even though it is considered a bit easier than the front.

Brutal Conditions
The course is in rough shape. Greens were well taken care of for the most part, but the lack of grass or any growth at all in much of the course was not something I’ve ever experienced before at any location or time of year. Understand it’s early in the season/barely getting started, but the damage goes well beyond timing. Given the other courses in the area, would strongly suggest you skip this one.
No grass on tee boxes
Greens were excellent. Tee boxes and fairways were dirt
Trails of Frisco aka TPC NoGrass
Terrible experience. Depressing. Fairways look like tractor pull race day before, driving range chewed up and spit out garbage. This place is a dumpster fire. Trash everywhere, in fairways, in hazards, ancient range ball covers on every hole. Surprised anyone works here. Sad place. Put a fork in this dinosaur.
Course is a mixed bag right now
The staff when I checked in was very friendly. I actually do enjoy the layout as there are some tough holes and some easy holes but overall it’s a fun layout. Right now, the greens are in good shape, a few trouble spots here and there but for the most part rolled well and had good pace to them. The fairways and tee boxes on the other hand were like playing on the field you’d see from Lambeau in the 60’s. They were incredible hard and were chopped up from being aerated. Literally added 20-30 yards of roll every shot because the ground was so hard. Looked like that hadn’t watered since last summer.
Course Condition
The tee boxes were in awful condition. The fairways are like playing on concrete. They just airated them but it looks like they neglected maintenance for the last several months.
We also encountered several very slow groups. We got stacked up on the 11th & 12th holes. We waited 30 minutes at each before teeing off.
Such wasted potential
First, the good: The layout of the course is awesome, with no two holes alike. Greens were in great shape, especially for February.
Now the bad: horrendous conditions overall. Worst driving range and tee boxes I've seen in years. Lots of bare or muddy areas on the fairway. Cracked concrete everywhere.
I feel sorry for the homeowners around this course who paid premiums. This course is extremely poorly maintained. There's no excuse especially with the revenues this course is surely generating.
Whatever excess cashflow is going into the owners pockets in the short term will surely exceed the loss in value of the golf course in the long term.
Nice course and design.
Ut was wet/windy but loved the layout and design. Will play again in better weather. Clubhouse and carts were very good!
Gone down hill
Tee to green some of the worst conditions around. Only thing going is the greens are in decent shape.
Trails conditions
Greens are in great shape, the rest not so great, looks like they got hammered by rain and weather. Standing water, washed out bunkers, it appears they are working to fix everything, but I wouldn’t go back for at least a month to allow for repairs. Challenging layout
Unplayable
The course was unplayable. Very muddy due to recent rains and they did nothing to take care of it. And to make matters worse all the ball washers had been taken down so you couldn’t even clean your ball.
Definitely not worth the money in these conditions.
Course needs facelift. Only half of the sand traps were playable. Could be a very nice course if they put more detail & attention to it. Came across as a typical muni.
Son in laws Christmas golf
All in all very good. Pace was slow. Poor fellas in front of rode the struggle bus . Waited every hole about 2-5 minutes
Don't Do It !!!
Where do I start !!
Course not maintained!Trash ,debris, broken sidewalks, poor signage !
We came hungry for food but the bartender told us the only food she had were old hot dogs that she doesn't know how long they have been in the cooler.
No cooks , no bev cart person.
We ordered pizza luckily and had it delivered to the club house for my group I was entertaining.
They had an attendant in the restroom like at vip nightclubs with your paper towel and a mint for a dollar ?? Literally a guy in a bunker raking while we were trying to play and he just stayed there while we hit up to the pin. Staring at my daughters , making them uncomfortable.
Don't do it!!
Worst staff
I would provably never come back to this course again, but this course needs improvement on the all the aspects, especially on the staffs who is facing the customer at the top front as a representative of the golf course.
The Asian guy working at the pro shop had no sense of service. My experience at the pro shop today was the worst experience at the golf course during my entire 20 years of golfing because of that guy.
Because of the heavy rain, we couldn’t finish the hole #3 and wanted to get the rain check. The amount on the rain check seemed lower than we expected, and we asked if he can explain the reason. The Asian guy at the pro shop was saying “that’s the amount I give today. If you don’t need the rain check, just go“ and “you should appreciate to what I gave you” and even throw the rain check to the side of the table and asked us to go to the side and wait him until he talks to the next customer without finishing our conversation. After we came out from the pro shop, me and my friend talked to each other that this is the worst experience ever. This guy even came out from the door, followed us and cursed with F words. And when we asked what he said, he said he didn’t say that. What’s going on at this golf course? Never expected this kind of situation where we paid for fun. I don’t even know how he could get a job there.
I don’t know if this message can be found by the owner or the higher management of the course, but I think they need to find better person at the pro shop who can talk with their value customer with better minded.
Ok Course a little over priced
Played weekend morning and for the price I felt the course tee boxes (blues) and fairways could have been in better condition. The greens were fast and good. Bunkers were ok. For the money I would play another course. But they charge a premium because it is Frisco.
A challenging but fun course
I found this course to be in good condition with the greens very good, the fairways in fine shape, but the tee boxes need work. It is a deceptively difficult course which is unforgiving if stray too far off the fairways and the pin placements were at times 'unfortunate' for us average golfers who hate to hear our partner remark, "It's still your turn!" But, I would play this course again and advise it to fellow duffers like me.
