Challenging par-3, #8 Photo submitted by ConnieBlack on 05/26/2014
Make the drive
Very nice morning round. Greens and fairways are in awesome condition. Bunkers still under repair but the rest of the course was in excellent condition. Will definitely be back soon.
All Around Great Experience
Worth the drive! Dave in the pro shop was very helpful. Greens rolled great and overall conditions were fantastic. All around amazing course! If you are an avid golfer, you owe it to yourself to check this course out!
Can't wait to play this one again!
It is hard to believe that just a few weeks ago much of this course was under water due to flooding. The turf conditions from tee to green are immaculate. The definition between fairway and rough is great. You are rewarded for keeping your tee sheet in the fairway and fairly penalized from the rough. The greens were smooth, but make sure you are on the same level as the pin! Once the bunker renovation is complete this course will be close to perfect. If you live in the Houston area, make the drive. It is worth it.
Beautiful course!
Course was absolutely beautiful, and I love the layout. I only knocked off one star for course conditions because they are still recovering from major flooding a month ago. All things considered, they have done an amazing job to get the course in great shape! The bunkers will take the longest to recover, and they are currently considered GUR.
The greens are absolutely some of the best I've ever putted on, and they rolled fast and true. Fairways are lush and smooth. Love this course!
Nice to get out of the city to play
Enjoyed the challenging course. Front nine was cart path only and we couldn't figure out why. It was very dry and hot, the cart path only made it more challenging. Back 9 was 90 degree which helped. Would like to go back and play again when full cart play allowed and all holes open to play as designed.
Staff were very nice folks and welcoming to us.
Great golf course
My second time playing the Wilderness. Perhaps the best public course in the Houston area (comparable in quality to Redstone and Blackhorse). Very good layout in a great venue - no houses, in a forest (wild deer, etc..). Course itself is a good challenge - the large greens keeps the track from being overly difficult. On this round, fairways a bit thin due to time of the year & greens were slow due to recent aerating. That will correct itself in a couple of weeks. Staff is very friendly and accommodating. Great value for the money. I would strongly recommend. Worth the 50 minute drive from downtown Houston.
Value for the Money!!
A beautiful drive down from Houston. Most likely the best value for the money in this part of Texas. Greens are undulating and even with recent punching with top dressing rolled very true...more importantly, they held shots hit appropriately.
Great course, great staff!!!
Top notch facility and top notch Staff. Course is challenging but fair and the staff will go above and beyond to help you out.
Good golf Course great greens
Really good golf course with superior greens. Very good speed and lots of undulation. Nice clubhouse and staff is very friendly.
The Wilderness
This course is a must play. A real hidden gem and worth the 50 minute drive from where I live. The greens were rolling as fast as any I have played on. Great value for the money.
Great Course about 45 minutes from Houston
Great layout with Fairways and greens in great shape. Moderately challenging for average golfer.
Incredible Course
It's a long drive, but worth it once you get there. The course is beautiful and soft and the staff is very nice. I was a little surprised they didn't have any energy drinks. No Red Bull, 5 hour energy, Monster etc. This is now one of my favorite courses, I'll just have to bring my own Red Bull.
Enjoy your day at Wilderness
Wilderness is always fun to play. In great shape, and a challenging course. The greens are always soft, and undulating. This is a course that I could play everyday.
Very enjoyable round of golf
The greens were very fast and in some challenging locations. The fairways were very good but the grass was a little high so the ball didn't roll very much. Overall a very enjoyable round of golf. I will certainly play there again.
Awesome course
The course is in beautiful shape. The staff is extremely friendly and I would highly recommend the Wilderness to anyone.
Great Experience!!
The Wilderness is a challeging golf experience. I played it for a $25 twilight deal which is a steal. The greens are well guarded by bunkers. The only complaint is that the carts seemed too slow. Otherwise, the staff was friendly. Course etiquette by other golfers was great. I will be back definitely.
Excellent course
Was on vacation and found this course. We had planned to play tour 18 in Houston but decided to try The Wilderness instead I am glad we did. This course is in excellent shape and is very challenging especially the greens.
Worth the drive.
Had heard about the course for a while and decided to give it a try. Glad I did. Friendly staff, course is a solid fair test and it was in great shape on this day.
Will definitely return.
Great course
Great layout and in very good shape. Fairways are very lush and greens rolled well. The course is maintained as well as, if not better, any of the best courses I've played. This course is a must play, can't say enough good things about it. If you're even remotely close to the area, you won't be disappointed.
Worth the Drive
First I must say I made the drive from Cypress, Texas to Lake Jackson and was pleasantly surprised. When I arrived in the distance tucked away is a Texas gem. You drive up to the clubhouse which takes you back to simpler times. The staff was very friendly. From the time you lay eyes on the course you see rolling fairways and undulating greens. The course is in great condition despite the lack of rain recently. The only complaint I have is the greens were being aerated so you could only play the front nine which was quite disheartening considering the drive i made. In addition to that i prepaid on golfnow.com and was charged a higher rate than the clubhouse was offering some kinda of hotdeal. I would definitely recommend this course to anyone if you want to get away from it all and enjoy a round of golf then find yourself in the Wilderness.
