Houston National Golf Club
About
Houston National Golf Club, located in the northwestern part of the city, definitely follows the old adage that "everything is bigger in Texas." This whopping course stretches to 7,337 yards from the back tees. It is a lengthy golf course no doubt, but it doesn't just favor those who can hit long. The layout has a unique links design, so long hitters will be pleased but they will have to be careful of the numerous pot bunkers and other strategically placed hazards waiting treacherously throughout. The golf course has an interesting character that sets it apart from others nearby thanks to a landscape of rolling hills and hardly any trees, a surprise since there is no shortage of trees in the area. Houston National Golf Club's wide-open links design also subjects golfers to the strong prevailing winds, making several of the holes especially tricky.

Course layout is just perfect not too punishing.
Work needs on bunkers and traps. One wooden steps up to a green need some care. Looks like operator need to out some money back into the course making a better.
Rained out
Got through hole 1 and then we got flushed out from the rain
Green not dirt
I'm extremely happy that the course is finally green and had grass down the fairways. I don't know if it's because of all the rain we've had or they are finally putting in the effort on the public course. I hope the staff is taking notice of how great it looks and plays, I know it's hard to keep up. But with where it is now, just a little effort to keep it up and not lose it again. Now all the in and out exit points need work, I'd just throw some mulch or pea gravel in the spots and notify the golfers that this where you enter and exit the fairways. This is the best it's looked in a LONG time, keep up the good work.
Golf at Houston National Club
Wonderful time with driving range and putting green for warm up. Rough areas very close to fairway and ground and sand somewhat hard. But still great course. Dining had hamburgers and chips for $8. A double shot Margarita at $14 and it was strong. Will go back many times.
Excellent Value, Fantastic Greens
Course was in the best shape I’ve seen it in 10+ years. Bunkers were a little washed out from recent storms, but tee boxes and fairways were all taken care of and plush. The greens were in fantastic shape and rolled pure. For the $, this is a go-to course in Houston. Cheers to Casey and the staff. Well done.
Good & reliable Houston National
Fun course to play. Tee boxes are decent except 1 or 2 holes. Fairways are semi-hard so the ball runs well off a good drive. Greens are in GREAT shape, lots of fun putts or chips from the rough. Always a good time.
Tought test, a little weedy, nice greens.
This course is kind of a nemesis of mine, as it seems pretty difficult. You have to hit your fairways and greens, or you pay a bit harsher of a penalty than you should for a mid- to high-handicapper. It's an imaginative and beautful layout, so it's a love/hate relationship. I feel like I need to be a single-digit handicap to break 90 on this course...!
The staff were pretty friendly, and the gas cart was nice. The greens were very good, fast but not too much so. The fairways were typical hard Texas ones, and the rough tended to be bare or weedy. The range was nice, with much nicer turf that you'd get on the course.
I'll be back, if only to keep tilting at the windmill of doing well on that course...!
Tuesday afternoon at Houston National GC
Course is in good shape. There’s room for improvement in pace of play. Staff members were very professional and courteous.
Houston National Challenges!
This is the first time I've played this course since 2021. HNG. It is showing its age. The practice range is barren, and the fairways are very close to the nap. The greens are in great shape, like putting on a billiard table, except for the challenges of all of the slopes. The customer facing staff is still top-notch! No 2, Par 4, Par 3 No 7 and 18 will challenge mid-irons accuracy and course management.
