Houston National Golf Club
About
Houston National Golf Club, located in the northwestern part of the city, definitely follows the old adage that "everything is bigger in Texas." This whopping course stretches to 7,337 yards from the back tees. It is a lengthy golf course no doubt, but it doesn't just favor those who can hit long. The layout has a unique links design, so long hitters will be pleased but they will have to be careful of the numerous pot bunkers and other strategically placed hazards waiting treacherously throughout. The golf course has an interesting character that sets it apart from others nearby thanks to a landscape of rolling hills and hardly any trees, a surprise since there is no shortage of trees in the area. Houston National Golf Club's wide-open links design also subjects golfers to the strong prevailing winds, making several of the holes especially tricky.

Little disappointed
The course was not as well maintained as I would have expected. Lots of bear patches on the fairways and the greens were not in the best shape. The new carts were nice but the restriction features of where you can go left us stranded coming out the tunnel between 17 and 18. Had to wait 10 mins to be rescued.
Punched greens after paying
Played this past Sunday and greens punched probably 1-2 days prior. No notification about the greens or discount which seems fair during punching the greens. Just like previous review, All bunkers should be raked daily and for goodness sakes, add more sand. I hate the excuse it rains when I'm from Florida. We have way more rain and our bunkers just about anywhere you go have sand, not washout and months of neglect... Most courses in the area are the same way so not just picking on Houston National.
Crabgrass is getting out of control around the greens and tee boxes.
The layout and fairways are decent. They always have number 2 and 9 as cart path only and you'll be hard pressed to find a puddle on either hole so when it's hot, you feel it. I play here because it's close to my house. The best take away is round came with a drink and hamburger or hotdog at the turn.
I would've given a 4 star but not being transparent during airifying is a huge letdown.pIt's priced about 20.00 too high but still good to work on your game with little expectations tee to green.
New carts
New fleet of golf carts. They had several bugs with the gps and locking out from some road crossing. Hopefully they do not increase rates too much
New Carts
They have brand new carts with the geofencing now. The course was in good shape even with the greens being punched a few days ago.
Pace was great on the front (2hrs) and we ran into a bottleneck on the back so it got really slow.
Still working out kinks in the geofencing. If it loses you in a tunnel it makes you back up. Had to wait for 2 groups ahead to figure out how to get carts unstuck, and wound up pushing ours through the tunnel instead of backing out.
Course layout is just perfect not too punishing.
Work needs on bunkers and traps. One wooden steps up to a green need some care. Looks like operator need to out some money back into the course making a better.
Rained out
Got through hole 1 and then we got flushed out from the rain
Green not dirt
I'm extremely happy that the course is finally green and had grass down the fairways. I don't know if it's because of all the rain we've had or they are finally putting in the effort on the public course. I hope the staff is taking notice of how great it looks and plays, I know it's hard to keep up. But with where it is now, just a little effort to keep it up and not lose it again. Now all the in and out exit points need work, I'd just throw some mulch or pea gravel in the spots and notify the golfers that this where you enter and exit the fairways. This is the best it's looked in a LONG time, keep up the good work.
Golf at Houston National Club
Wonderful time with driving range and putting green for warm up. Rough areas very close to fairway and ground and sand somewhat hard. But still great course. Dining had hamburgers and chips for $8. A double shot Margarita at $14 and it was strong. Will go back many times.
Excellent Value, Fantastic Greens
Course was in the best shape I’ve seen it in 10+ years. Bunkers were a little washed out from recent storms, but tee boxes and fairways were all taken care of and plush. The greens were in fantastic shape and rolled pure. For the $, this is a go-to course in Houston. Cheers to Casey and the staff. Well done.
Good & reliable Houston National
Fun course to play. Tee boxes are decent except 1 or 2 holes. Fairways are semi-hard so the ball runs well off a good drive. Greens are in GREAT shape, lots of fun putts or chips from the rough. Always a good time.
